Just doesn't seem like much of a feat. I mean the company we call Rare had it's most popular games on the N64 then fell off the map until the Xbox 360 where they were forced to make Kinect games. In 1996-2001 there were much less people gaming than now, so even if this game is under performing it would still smash Rare's personal best.

It does suck that people can't let themselves enjoy a game because of such a minor thing like sex, gender, or race--but at the end of the day that's their prerogative. I mean, yeah, going to the game's official forums to complain about a gender-neutral option for your avatar is like complaining of there being an option to make your character black. You don't want to play a game for whatever reason? Fine, go put energy and attention into something else.

Do be careful reading through this piece. The translation is a bit rough and this leads to what can be interpreted as a bias for lootboxes. Also, the piece mentions Star Wars Battefront 2's lootboxes returning which isn't true. Lootboxes are microtransactions but no all microtransactions are lootboxes.

The Netherlands recently did a study of the various types of lootbox and found there to be a deep grey area in terms of severity based on what type of lootbox it ...

This is just a response to "God of War's first proper boss fight is what I hate about action games". It doesn't take on the criticism and analyze the tired tropes of the action genre or the differences between this game's opening boss fight against say God of War (2005). This entire piece is just a "Well, I liked it". People criticize sites for needlessly picking at things to get hits--but what about the other side of that coin? Offering a popular counter op...

Sadly, I don't feel this has any thing to do with gaming. It's tagged with "PSP" but there's no mention of any sort of game tie-in.

The Singapore based developer's actions seem rather questionable after doing a little research. For instance, on the game's page it says "A prequel to the award winning Dusty Revenge.." I did a check and found the reward was an Asian Indie Award for game audio. Just felt a bit misleading to me--like Academy Award winning Suicide Squad when the award is in make-up. Yeah technically true, but hardly a reflection of the rest of the piece. Also, the game only has 7 PC reviews...

@Phantom
The author never said the game was bad. I never said the game was bad. Pointing out and discussing issues doesn't mean the person thinks the game is bad because of them. You can love something an not have blind ignorance toward it.

You may have liked Doom the way it is but it's equally possible, with alterations based on authors criticisms, the game could have been even more, and you might have liked it a little more. I mean it's why we hav...

That's a pretty dangerous attitude. You can enjoy, even love something and still recognize when it has faults. It's also okay to not want those same issues repeated.

I can't even pay attention to an article which gets information immediately wrong in the title. Activision Blizzard only owns the publishing rights to the title for the 10 year period of their contract with Bungie. Bungie owns the Destiny intellectual property.

Is it dying? No. Destiny 2 is simply the victim of a poorly timed contract renegotiation which, allegedly, forced Bungie to rework the title in a very short time window. The first game was also rushed forcing...

Fascinating how all the games listed were Japanese productions. This piece isn't just limited to gaming as numerous anime's have also taken inspiration from the work or outright used it. It makes sense the Japanese would use a piece of melancholy and fond remembrance juxtaposed against the weight of reality--that's pretty much most anime. I think the piece just strikes a cord with a whole culture of people pressured to grow up immediately--where memories of childhood and blissful...

They shot themselves in the foot at the starting line. Instead of getting medical attention they just cut off their leg and hop the entire thing. Admirable, but don't expect a PB.

@Kokyu

It was Bungie who approached Activision for the contract renegotiation with a plan to repay Activision Blizzard using microtransactions. A contract which required Bungie to design a game around lootboxes in a very short window. I mean I'm convinced if Activision said no Bungie would have went under. So I have a hard time seeing the inequality of their transgressions is all.

If Riot had indeed said they would tone down the sexualization of the future women in the game I can understand why the player base cried foul. At the same time: do you know how long it takes to create a character illustration and how many eyes need to view it before it goes to the public? I have a hard time believing in the hundreds of hours spent in round tables, critique, planning, illustration and the literally dozens of people looking it over--someone didn't put there hand up and sa...

This is sorta a repeat of their strategy from Dragon Quest VIII where there was no Japanese dub of the game but it was dubbed in English. The reason was, Square Enix felt a western audience wouldn't embrace the game if they had to read all the dialogue. The Japanese seem to be very used to and accepting of games which are more text driven, and you can see a lot of this from "graphic novel" style games.

And for some reason the Japanese love the novelty of t...

His comments are rather...safe...aren't they? I have no doubt EA didn't force the team to use Frostbite as it just made more business sense to use the engine developed by those you're working for.

His comments on business practices were a bit more interesting. The language he uses to describe EA and their "very solid business plan", it just felt you could read a lot between the lines. Also, it's common knowledge you never EVER badmouth a previo...

Not entirely sure I'd call it "dead". The game across all 3 platforms still rakes in over 200-300K players doing PVP and/or PVE content daily according to Destiny Tracker. "Dead" seems to be a more socially based thing of "is their any hype for the game? No? It's dead regardless of any other factor." Then what does fit the criteria of a "dead" game? Paragon, the ill-fated MOBA from Epic games. Support was pulled entirely and the servers wil...

Activision surprisingly isn't as much to blame as Bungie in this case. It was Bungie who renegotiated their contract once the original plans for Destiny 2 were scrapped to repay finances to Activision using microtransactions instead of content DLC. It was Bungie who bottle-necked EXP and still sell EXP boosters from their online store. It was indeed Bungie who was so mismanaged they scrapped an entire project halfway through and pushed a game out in 16 months.

While I'll agree the franchise was tired, I do fully disagree with the notion God of War(2018) is brave for the changes it's implementing--I offer a different perspective. We see a certain phrase in cinema all the time called "in name only" which means the only feature linking one product to another is the title. Large studios know it's very safe to take something they fear might not sell well and slap a popular brand name onto it in order to generate some buzz.

Why was Christina Aguilera popular after Britney Spears hit it big? Why was N'Sync a smash after Backstreet Boys? Regardless of what the follower did better or worse, it's all about what's "In". Battle Royals are the "in" thing. People wonder why publishers seem to copy the big mega blockbuster--this is why.

Oh yeah-- being free doesn't hurt either.
