Oh please, stop with the lame excuses and finger-pointing. The ONLY blame for the failure of the Wii U lies squarely with Nintendo itself. Trying to shift the blame with these kinds of weak excuses doesn't change that one bit.
In fact, the Wii U hardware was so underwhelming and poorly designed, it basically was unable to match consoles that came out many years before it. No internal hard drive, meager 2gb of RAM (with only 1gb available for games), ancient USB 2.0 ports...
@ GotHDGame - First of all, the fact that Nintendo was so cheap about storage on the Wii U, is one of the many reasons that the console has failed. They literally cut out or scaled back every possible feature/spec, to keep their costs low, and their profits up. And they also did this to accommodate the high cost of the gamepad gimmick, which sapped huge resources away from the base console itself, and ended up being just a mediocre feature.
Second, you are wrong about exter...
With a paltry 8gb of storage (and an even more pitiful 3gb usable), it's easy to see why the basic Wii U was an abject failure. They might as well have just made it with no storage at all; such an underwhelming console.
Simple answer to that dilemma: get both physical and digital versions. I often do that for games I really like.
Don't forget, no more gimmicks. The last two Nintendo consoles and the last two handhelds have all been based on gimmicks, time for this company to get back to focusing on games, like they used to at their peak.
While I agree that a "huge price drop" would help increase hardware sales, for a while at least, it wouldn't be able to revive the Wii U. There just aren't enough games out for the system now, and almost nothing coming out in the future. And entire genres of games are simply missing from the library.
At this point, nothing will bring the Wii U back, which is why the NX will most likely release Holiday 2016. They desperately need a new hardware product out o...
Wow. I totally agree. This "opinion piece" is the most poorly written that I have ever seen on N4G. Rampant, nonsensical capitalization, incomplete or run-on sentences and useless minutiae throughout. I understand that the author is still just a kid, but someone else involved with that website really should have edited the article.
Unfortunately, the reviews for this game on Steam are pretty mixed. Let's hope they improve on the gameplay before it releases on XB1.
Agreed, and although the original Wii sold a lot of hardware, once the fad fizzled out, the system basically just died. The attach rate was poor (when you take out a few big first-party titles), and the system died over two years ago, while the 360 and PS3 are still very viable consoles, still having great games released.
I think the Wii damaged Nintendo's reputation far more than any of their other failures, although the Wii U has definitely had poor results for the com...
At least MS is actually releasing those games, if Nintendo owned the IPs they would never see the light of day. Or when they did release, Nintendo would overprice them like every other overpriced VC game. Nintendo is a greedy company, and your comment is a pitiful thing to complain about.
Always online = never buying this game. Can't stand that forced online scam, not going to bother with this game.
Thank you Don, we believe you!
Oh please, that shady smokescreen about sharing games was nothing more than a ruse to get suckers to accept Microsoft's harsh always-online DRM and no used game sales policies. Don't tell me you actually fell for that sham?
I know what you mean. I bought Shovel Knight on PS4/PS3/Vita (cross-buy), but I also preordered the physical version for PS4. Fantastic game, well worth the price!
All of those Iwata quotes don't change the fact that the Wii U was a failure, another underpowered console based on a gimmick, just like the Wii before it. Iwata may have said that he "doesn't care what kind of *more beef* console Microsoft and Sony might produce in 2013", but he SHOULD have cared, and he SHOULD have put more resources into the Wii U console itself, instead of completely gimping it to accommodate the gimmicky gamepad. All those quotes just prove that he wa...
This game is embarrasingly out of place on the Wii U, it just doesn't fit with the "family friendly" image of the console at all. Not saying it looks bad, although the graphics really look like last-gen stuff, but I doubt it will sell much at all on the Wii U; it really should have been a PS3/360 release. At least then there would be a huge install base and sales could be decent, possibly.
I think most people would realize that GW2 stands for Garden Warfare 2, in this context.
I totally agree, without any single-player content or offline mode, it's not worth it at all. MP-only games are entirely at the mercy of online connections and finding other decent players, so they really don't have much longevity.
That's how low Nintendo has sunk these days; most of their products are based on gimmicks. The golden years for Nintendo are long gone.
They're only "dominating" in the minds of a few diehard fans; otherwise, they're bogged down by a failing home console, fading 3DS sales, a poor online infrastructure, and a lack if solid leadership. Plus, it sounds like their next console, the NX, will once again be based on a gimmick. They've claimed that it will showcase a "new concept", the same terminology that they used for the Wii and Wii U. It certainly doesn't bode well for the future of the comp...
