In 25 years, Nintendo's beloved IPs may still be around, but their gaming hardware will be long gone. They just don't have a clue how to design good gaming hardware, anymore, and haven't for many years.

@ RPGrinder, you and other diehard fans like you are part of the reason that Nintendo is failing. You laud every single thing they do, every poor product they release, all in a desperate attempt to get more rehashed games in the IPs you love (Mario, Zelda, etc). Instead of always praising everything they do, why not wake up and realize that they need to change? Why not actually DEMAND that they make better products, without gimmicks, so they can actually compete? Keep on the path you are ...

Except no, Gimmicks do not = "Innovation", and all Nintendo has been known for, for over a decade, is gimmicks.

-- "Glasses free 3D" = gimmick (which most people just turn off)
-- Wii Waggle motion controls = gimmick (and the Wii died years ago, long before the PS3 and 360 which are still doing well today, when the fad fizzled out)
-- Gamepad for Wii U = gimmick, one that sapped huge resources away from the base console, due to its high cos...

@ Spotie - Have you noticed that RPGrinder uses his second shill account, Chronoman2, to try to support his inane comments? Mods really should disable the Chronoman2 account, it's a sleazy thing that shouldn't be allowed. Was it you who originally noticed this, or someone else?

"there's a lot of great games on the system that would last quite a while, especially if you were to aim for 100% completion in some of them."

-- So now you have to add "100% completion" to your games list, to make it seem like there is more content on the Wii U? Come on, most people probably don't go for "100% completion", and adding that into your reasoning just makes you look desperate. How about a robust library of games, across all ...

Since your account (Chronoman2) is nothing more than a 2nd shill account for RPGrinder (we all know it is, it's been pointed out by others), maybe you should just stick to your main account (RPGrinder) and stop trying to support yourself with shill posts? It's really pitiful that you have to resort to a 2nd account to try to boost your flagging first account! You even say the very same things as RPGrinder about the Vita, how obvious can you get?

Always the same old, tired mantra from Iwata: "Please understand". No one believes that it requires much effort to port these older games to newer systems; the games were already completed years ago, and are very simple and undemanding in terms of hardware, so the effort to port them should be minimal.

It really didn't. Mostly shovelware and waggle gimmick games, easily forgotten. The fad fizzled years ago, Nintendo didn't even bother supporting the console since before the Wii U released, yet the PS3 and 360 still get decent support to this very day. That tells you all you need to know about the Wii, a fad that quickly faded away.

20 million in the first year? What are they smoking?

3990d ago 3 agree7 disagreeView comment

They may "keep supporting" the Wii U, but the sad truth is that one company alone can only do so much, and they'll be stretched VERY thin trying to support three different platforms all at the same time. Since they're probably currently putting major resources into NX games, the Wii U is likely to get very little support in the near future.

Also, it is sounding more and more like the NX will release in 2016, rather than later; probably at latest in the fall...

Whoa, did you forget to take your meds today? You need to chill out with the excessive caps usage, it really makes you look fanatical.

As for your rant, you've pretty much confirmed that the NX is going to fail. 3rd party developers really aren't going to waste their time and money making exclusive games for a nonexistent market. Nintendo fans just don't buy anything but Nintendo-made games on Nintendo hardware, so why should they bother?

Your ...

@ wonderfulmonkeyman - With your logic, every 3rd party dev should devote millions of dollars to creating original IPs that should only be sold on the NX, nothing else. Realistically, that's never going to happen. You need to stop ranting, and understand the real world; devs will PORT games to the NX IF IT IS WORTHWHILE, but if the NX doesn't offer feature-rich, high-spec hardware, it won't happen anyway. And I suspect by Nintendo's comments, about NX offering another "...

Based on the flagging sales of the Wii U, it's clear that Nintendo needs to get a new console out ASAP. They really can't afford to wait much longer to salvage their collapsing reputation and market share in the gaming community/industry. They don't have the luxury of time on their side, the longer they wait, the more isolated they become. So 2016 makes sense for release of the NX, probably around the holiday season.

I'll give you a reason not to get your "3rd party fix" from a PC: just pick up a PS4 and/or XBOX One. You'll have all the 3rd party games you want, on very solid, well-designed, feature-rich consoles. Plus you'll have a bunch of fantastic 1st and 2nd party games as well, on either/both of those consoles.

You're welcome. :)

Seems like Nintendo is pulling the plug on the Wii U for the most part; a few games coming out through the end of this year, then very little in the works for next year. They really need a viable product to replace the Wii U ASAP, which is why the NX will probably release in the Holiday 2016 timeframe.

If NX is another gimmick-based system with mediocre specs though, it will be DOA. With Iwata still in charge, unfortunately, it is likely that the NX will underwhelm, just li...

It's hard to understand why anyone would continue to support and make excuses for a company that has shown such little regard for its loyal fans. Nintendo seems so out of touch, intent on "doing their own thing" without any regard for whether their approach will satisfy fans or not. They don't consult developers when designing new hardware, instead taking an arrogant "take it or leave it" approach, and forcing developers to work within a lot of constraints just t...

@ Neonridr - You really don't know when the NX is releasing, nor does anyone else. It could release in late 2016, or sometime in 2017.

However, given Nintendo's poor sales of Wii U hardware and software, they really can't afford to wait much longer before getting a new product on the market. It seems more likely that the NX will be revealed sometime early in 2016, then released later that year, for the holiday season.

Remember, their stockholders ...

The Wii and Wii U were not "good/great" consoles, both of them were extremely disappointing, both were based on gimmicks, both had severely gimped hardware and were missing many commonly expected features.

The Wii was a fad that caught on for a while with casuals, had tons of shovelware, then came to an early end years ago when the fad fizzled out, and casuals moved on. The waggle gimmick really ruined a lot games on that system.

The Wii U was crip...

Devil's Third is really not geared toward Nintendo gamers to begin with. Most of them only buy first party games like Mario, Zelda, etc., and they rarely deviate from those games. The game isn't going to sell to those fans, and really sounds like a strange mashup of styles that isn't very appealing (to any gamers, not just Nintendo fans).

I think that it will have mediocre sales in Japan, and not much outside of that area, if it even comes out at all.

@nidhogg - No, Nintendo is failing because they aren't offering products that people want. It's really as simple as that, no need to try to blame gamers when it really isn't their fault at all.
