"Of course, the alternative argument is that you have to know when to give up and start anew. The loss of the core gamer following the Wii’s success with the casual market was unlikely to be turned around by a console that sported the same name; especially one that had become synonymous with shovel-ware and mini games in its later years. The lack of processing power, and a control scheme that requires genuine thought in order to make the best use of it made it less attractive to develope...

Doesn't look good for this game coming out anywhere but Japan, sadly. Understandable, considering that it probably won't sell very well outside of Japan, and probably not even very well there. It sounds like a very niche game anyway.

War of the Monsters was a great action game on the PS2 for sure, and it's available for the PS3 on PSN. Great game is to play locally against another player!

"History Dictates That the NX Will Come in 2017"

But reality dictates that it would be better if released in 2016. The Wii U is winding down, and Nintendo desperately needs a new product to bring in revenue. If they wait too long, it's just going to be more difficult for them to turn things around.

But it may be too late either way. If the NX isn't a solid, well-designed, non-gimmicky piece of hardware, it won't make any difference at a...

"the core of the game is three-player only, with puzzles devised that way. If there's two of you, it's as useless as one, opening up only a competitive arena mode to you. Worse, if somebody drops out - that's a game over"

Three player only? This game is going to fail hard.

Unfortunately Nintendo designed the Wii U without real concept of how the gamepad would make it unique, and without the necessary specs and features to allow it to compete, this generation. The gamepad is such an expensive part of the whole package, that they clearly had to scale the base console specs way back in order to accommodate its cost. That left the console itself way too underpowered to handle current generation games.

At this point the Wii U is really only for di...

@ bnoyes - Agreed. What do they mean by "going forward" anyway? From most people's perspective, there isn't much of a future for the Wii U; a few more games coming out this year, and probably a lot less next year, in it's final year of life (effectively).

A few games selling a million or so copies aren't going to change the future of the Wii U.

That's a sorry list of games for a console that's been out for almost 3 years.

@ jholden3249 - Come on man, re-read what you wrote, it's nothing more than a bunch of fanboy excuses for a company that is completely out of touch with the gaming community. All your excuses aren't going to change the fact that the Wii U is a barren wasteland for games, with almost nothing more coming in its last year of life. Do you ever get tired of the endless damage control?

And trying to throw in derogatory stuff about the Vita, which is still getting fantastic ...

@ lionfumez619 - Well said. The "New 3DS" in particular is a huge ripoff; a slightly improved model, with only ONE GAME that uses its new features, and you have to buy the new model if you want to play that game! The sad truth is that Nintendo should have included the "enhancements" in the ORIGINAL 3DS, but as is typical of this company, they cheaped out (and bungled) the original design of the handheld.

The launch 3DS had tiny, poor screens, no 2nd analog...

Actually, Nintendo would be in a lot better position if they scrapped all those previous gimmicky controllers, and just focused on a standard controller, similar to the "Pro" controller available for the Wii U (but an improved version of that). They've honestly hurt themselves by offering too many gimmicky controllers with the Wii U, especially the Wiimote and nunchuk ones. I bet almost no one uses the Wii motes anyway, they're kind of poor controllers, made for Wii games. T...

If the NX is based on a gimmick, like their last two consoles, it will fail. Simple as that.

The gaming community has sent a very clear message to Nintendo; they don't want gimmicks, they want solid hardware that can evolve and deliver great games for many years. The Wii U just didn't offer that, hopefully the NX will.

"Lastly, just because you do things differently than the competition doesn't make it better or more worth it. Ultimately the consumer decides what's better..."

THIS. Nintendo has been too caught up in being "different" from the competition, and the end result is substandard hardware crippled by gimmicks. No one asked for a bulky, distracting tablet controller, and the high cost of the gamepad directly caused the base console to have specs/features ...

I agree. Nintendo is very greedy when it comes to everything gaming related; not only with the prices if digital and physical games, but also with gaming hardware.

Just look at the Wii U, originally priced way too high (considering the mediocre tech inside), and STILL overpriced 2.5 years later. Same with the 3DS, which isn't remotely worth $200 for its cheap tech.

The company only cares about profits, nothing else. It really shows in the mediocre produc...

Why is Nintendo so obsessed with gimmicks? Instead of focusing on solid gaming hardware and new games, they're wasting time and effort on forcing people to buy cheap toys in order to play their games.

Sad how a once powerful and respected company in the gaming industry has degenerated into a shell of its former greatness.

Nintendo really has already effectively "pulled out of E3 entirely", they cancelled their big live conferences years ago, changed to pre-recorded digital "events" (which only target current Nintendo hardware owners, sadly), and they had an abysmal floor showing this year as well (almost nothing on display, very barren).

For some strange reason, they even chose to ignore several big games that are (supposedly) coming soon for the Wii U, including Fast Racin...

Keep repeating that to yourself, over and over, and you might even believe it.

But only the most diehard Nintendo fans such as yourself would try to make those claims. In reality, this year's presentation by Nintendo was a complete dud, they showed almost nothing at all for the Wii U, and the few new games they revealed were widely regarded as trash (like the Metroid Prime abortion, and the Animal Crossing dud).

And you keep harping on Nintendo only show...

@ Ben_Rage_3 - Unfortunately for Nintendo, the bulk of the gaming community (minus the Nintendo diehard fans, who are a tiny minority), do in fact view all of Nintendo's recent gaming hardware as based on gimmicks. You can try to spin it or make excuses otherwise, but the reality of their philosophy is really quite clear. Nintendo's goal has always been to set themselves apart, and differentiate themselves from the competition, simply because they are unable to compete when it comes t...

I'd be embarrassed and make excuses too, if I were you, and realized how badly Nintendo's digital presentation and floor display went. You have a vested interest in downplaying the success of the Sony and Microsoft showings, since you're solely a Wii U supporter and have constantly criticized the other two big gaming companies.

Sony and Microsoft both had great conferences, with lots to be excited about, and many great looking games in development. Why not just a...
