The "New 3DS" (terrible name) is a complete scam. Its sole purpose was to force diehard Nintendo fans to re-buy the system. If Nintendo really cared about their customers, they would have included the faster processor and better 3D effect in the 3DS when it first released. It certainly wouldn't have cost them much more to do that but in typical Nintendo fashion, they kept the specs at a bare minimum, to maximize profits and minimize costs. The original 3DS even had a tiny screen...

They are only "publisher of the year" in the minds of the most diehard Nintendo fanboys. Otherwise, they're pretty much out of the picture.

@ skullidsrevenge - Hilarious stuff dude, you mimic the diehard Nintendo fans perfectly!

Um, that was meant to be humor, right? Bueller?

If you're referring to the awful Wii, that console was nothing more than a cheap fad,one that fizzled out years ago. It also severely damaged Nintendo's reputation, and ultimately alienated a large portion of (former) Nintendo fans. Hardly a good example to bolster your argument, eh?

I guess it's possible, if the new controller can substitute for the gamepad. But the different core architectures (PowerPC and ARM) would still be an issue. Time will tell.

3641d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Doubtful. They're based on different architectures, one PowerPC, one ARM. Also, unless the NX uses the gamepad as its primary controller, Wii U games just aren't going to work with it at all. Who's going to spend $150 for a gamepad to use with their NX, half the price of an entire XB1 console (if they can even buy one), just to play a handful of games? The gamepad was forced on all Wii U owners, and not even available as a separate accessory, yet another reason why the Wii U fail...

Wow, what a ridiculous damage control this article by syfygames is. It cites the success of the original Wii as part of its reasoning to not doubt Nintendo, when the Wii actually did a lot of damage to Nintendo's reputation. It also outright admits that Nintendo relies on gimmicks to attract buyers, something that the company really should be ashamed of. The many gimmicks on Nintendo's hardware are the reason that most gamers have turned away from them, nothing to be proud of at all. ...

No, it really doesn't.

Did you even read what I wrote? Because the crappy waggle gimmick spawned Kinect and Move, that's why. Had they never made the Wii, we wouldn't have had those. Also the Wii polluted many stores with tons of shovelware garbage games. Thankfully it's dead and buried now, long forgotten. The fad completely fizzled out years ago, unlike the 360 and PS3, which are still getting games even now.

3641d ago 0 agree2 disagreeView comment

Why? Because Nintendo's gimmicks have degraded a hobby that we all love. Contrary to improving the gaming experience, they've made it a lot worse. And yes, the Wii’s waggle gimmick spawned Kinect and Move, both gimmicks in themselves, neither of which improved gaming on their respective platforms. (But thankfully unlike Nintendo's gimmicks, which are forced on all their gamers, Kinect and Move were optional).

We've had enough with these gimmicks spoiling our ...

At least some people will be able to try out a few Wii U games without wasting money on the unappealing hardware. I personally wouldn't bother, but it gives others a chance to try out the games.

@ The_Sage - Well said. Many people who claim that the Wii was a great success, don't realize that in the long run, it severely damaged Nintendo's reputation. Financially it did make them a lot of money, but in reality it alienated most core gamers who are critical to the long term success of a company. After the novelty of motion controls wore off, and people realized that the console didn't have much to offer, it simply faded away. The Wii died years before its competition, a te...

Agreed. The motion controls in Skyward Sword were horrible, completely ruined the game. Forcing people to spastically wave their arms around just to play a game was atrocious, just one more example of how Nintendo's gimmicks tend to ruin the gaming experience, rather than improving it.

I've played with the Wii U enough to know that I have no interest whatsoever in ever buying one. And judging by the poor sales of the console, the majority of gamers seem to agree.

3643d ago 1 agree7 disagreeView comment

It was pretty much done when it released. I was looking at a used Wii U and controller today at Gamestop, and noticed that the gamepad is almost as big as the console itself. Way too big and awkward to be the system's primary controller. What were they thinking?

3643d ago 5 agree11 disagreeView comment

Shame there aren't many games out for it though, and very few coming in the future. Entire game genres are simply missing from the Wii U's library too, sadly.

Nintendo hasn't produced "good hardware" for over a decade, what makes you think the NX will break that trend?

3643d ago 1 agree6 disagreeView comment

No, no one debunked this at all. It looks like the patent Nintendo submitted last year.

3644d ago 2 agree8 disagreeView comment

Unfortunately, all of Nintendo's recent "innovativ" controllers (Wiimote/nunchuk, gamepad) haven't been anything more than gimmicks, and none of them improved the gaming experience. I'm afraid the NX will follow the same trend as the others, which is a recipe for failure.
