"Genius" is probably the last word most people would use to characterize having only one playable game at E3. More like, a barren wasteland for the last year of the Wii U's life. Only a diehard fan would use that word, the reality is far different and much worse than anytime in the recent history of the company.

"So about 6 years on the market"

With about 3 years worth of games, or less (2016 is a barren wasteland for games, and 2015 wasn't much better). Certainly nothing to be happy about.

Good article. While I disagree that Nintendo's gimmicks have improved the gaming experience for all of their recent consoles and handhelds, the real point of the article is that Nintendo has really dropped the ball on software production, both in terms of quality and quantity. There have been many recent games that failed to measure up, including Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, Kirby's Rainbow Curse, and (obviously) Star Fox Zero. All of these recent games were ruined by gimmicks, f...

Totally agree. Why have Nintendo been so slow to move on from the Wii U, when it was clear 1-2 years ago that it failed? They really should have done something to get a new console out sooner, or just went software only and stopped trying to produce substandard hardware in the future. They're not going to improve things by just being stubborn and burying their heads in the sand.

There really aren't very many good games out for the Wii U, with almost nothing planned for the last year of its life either. It's pretty much a barren wasteland for games, sadly. Hard to justify buying the system (especially at the high price Nintendo is asking) for so few games.

I doubt that you will see many more games get released for the Wii U, it's in the final year of its life with almost nothing coming out. Nintendo really needs to drastically cut the price of the system, maybe to $100-$150, and include a bunch of games as well. It just isn't worth even remotely what they are asking for it, considering the old technology and missing features inside.

Ouch, another 40 review. Such a lost opportunity here, if Miyamoto hadn't insisted on using the poorly implemented gimmicky controls, the game certainly would have at least been somewhat enjoyable (although it still would have had issues with the graphics, boring stealth sections, and some mediocre vehicles). As it is, the wonky controls really ruined the game. What were they thinking?

The Metacritic score has now dropped to 69. Metacritic classifies that as "mixed or average reviews", not "mixed or positive". Get your facts straight before you post false statements.

No, the "other option" would be for Nintendo to stop being stingy with their back catalog of games, and get on the ball to release them to the world (on consoles, preferably not their own). Nintendo shouldn't even be bothering with mobile games, it's a waste of time.

Why wouldn't it ignore the 3DS, with it's ancient technology, poor quality screens, single analog stick, and weak specs? That handheld was very underwhelming, and sales of it are tanking. The 3D gimmick turned out to be a joke (most people just turned it off), and it never delivered a solid gaming experience.

The reality of Nintendo's current dismal situation is far different from your rosy view of the company.

Nintendo is in serious trouble in the gaming industry. Their decisions and actions for a long time haven't been well thought out. They really don't seem to know what they are doing, at all. Very sad.

Great review!

Right, because Sony isn't "screwing everyone with the Neo" at all, the original PS4 will continue to work just fine. And PSVR is an entirely optional device, Sony isn't forcing anyone to buy it either.

Get your facts straight before you post false garbage.

How many of those users are still active though? Probably not a lot.

Judging by the dismal reviews for the game (it's sitting on Metacritic with an overall score of 70), with most reviews complaining about the terrible controls, it's clear that the controls are not "fine" at all. Only the die-hard fans are making excuses for this game, the majority of gamers think they're awful.

"Nintendo knows how to run their business. "

No, they really don't.

The Wii U is a failed product, built entirely around an expensive gimmick, with a barren wasteland of a games library.

The 3DS was so poorly received at launch, they had to cut the retail price by 30% just to keep it alive. The 3D gimmick was so awful, with a narrow range in which it worked, most people just turned it off. The original 3DS had a tiny, poor...

For your information, I used to be a huge Nintendo fan. I still own my original NES, SNES, N64, and GBA SP, and hundreds of games for those systems (including many rare and collectible copies). I even still own 2 brand new translucent colored N64 consoles, never opened.

Since the N64, Nintendo has lost its way. They've released poor hardware crippled by bad gimmicks. This is not the Nintendo I knew and loved as I was growing up.

Instead of constan...

I think Nintendo is afraid to say anything about the NX, for fear of being lambasted by the gaming fans, journalists, and developers. The only thing they have said about the NX is that it is a "brand new concept", which is certainly a cause for concern. The Wii, 3DS, and Wii U were all "brand new concepts", none of which delivered a better gaming experience. To the contrary, all of them were degraded by the gimmicks cobbled in.

Hard to believe that Nintendo and Platinum Games put out such a poor game, especially considering that they postponed the release to "polish" the game further. What a disaster for both companies.

3605d ago 2 agree3 disagreeView comment

Ouch. This game is really getting some bad reviews, most of which mention that the controls make the game a chore to play, the stealth sections are slow and boring, and many of the vehicles just don't control well. It's hard to believe that Platinum Games developed this game, they usually do a better job.
