It's Nintendo, and we all know that their next system will feature yet another gimmicky controller, just like the Wii and Wii U. They just don't understand that people want a standard controller, and they're desperate to set themselves apart, at any cost.
Well said. It seems like Miyamoto and his obsession with silly gimmicks strikes again. I do believe that Platinum Games, by itself with no interference from Miyamoto or Nintendo (forcing the gamepad gimmick into the game), could have made a great new Starfox game. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, and the end result was a mediocre game (at best).
Well, he obviously just hated the horrible controls so much, he just didn't want to waste any more time on the game. I do agree that he probably should have given it more time, then actually provided a score, but he must have felt like the game was just too broken to bother.
Sorry aussie-gamer, but your article just comes off as defensive, pro-Nintendo whining, all because a journalist found a game from your favorite company to be unplayable. Many other reviews have mentioned that the gimmicky controls really ruin the game; it's sitting on Metacritic with a 71 overall score (and slowly dropping). If you exclude the handful of super-fanboy journalists, like those from uproxx or cheatcc, the game would be well into the 60s.
Is it so hard to...
No, it's not the same at all. Nintendo is releasing a completely new console only 4 years after the Wii U was released. The new console will likely have completely different specs, including a different processor family from the Wii U. And they're moving most of their Wii U games that were in development, over to the NX. Not the same situation at all.
This review may seem harsh, but it really just pulls no punches and honestly evaluates the game. The awkward, unnatural controls just ruined the chance for this game to be the proper sequel to the great Starfox legacy. What a shame.
You're right, the source only talks about more first party games, not 3rd party. I really don't see how the NX can break into a market where two other consoles already have over 60 million units in homes, with many 3rd party developers and games.
What a strange review. The author basically admits that the graphics in this game are mediocre, and then makes excuses for the terrible controls (which don't even allow players to use the any other controller than the gamepad). The forced use of the gamepad for cockpit view, combined with the forced use of motion controls to aim at enemies, and the mediocre graphics, basically ruined the game. Miyamoto once again proves that he should have retired from the gaming industry a long time a...
Unfortunately, it looks like they are putting almost no effort into the single player content for this game; all DLC so far is MP only, and of course the beta is MP only as well. Where is the classic Doom single player content? I was initially excited about this remake, but after seeing that it is mainly a multiplayer game, I'm just going to pass on it.
What a terrible review, but not surprising coming from cheatcc, a notoriously pro-Nintendo website. The author makes excuses for the terrible control scheme and wonky motion controls, and even admits that she had to focus mainly on the gamepad to aim and hit enemies, which really breaks immersion in the gaming experience. This game sits with an overall 72 on Metacritic, and cheatcc gives it a 96? Come on.
Why would anyone be surprised about the dismal 3rd party support on Wii U, at this late stage in its lifespan? This is effectively the Wii U's last year of life, and it just never caught on with gamers or developers. By now, everyone knows about the almost nonexistent 3rd party support, and that just isn't going to change in the final year of its life.
W101 wasn't "amazing", it was also ruined by the forced gamepad gimmick ("drawing shapes" on the screen to create weapons). So no, this wasn't amazing either. Shame Nintendo squandered this opportunity.
7.5 is a decent score, but imagine how much better this game would have been without the gimmicky, unnatural controls? Why does Nintendo feel the need to force poorly implemented gimmicks onto their gamers? All they accomplish by doing this, is to degrade the gaming experience.
And this is done so they can justify the existence of the gamepad, nothing more.
Another Nintendo game ruined by gimmicks. The weird control scheme, where you have two different views on tablet and TV (and wrestle with silly motion controls on top of that), pretty much guaranteed that this game would be mediocre at best, and annoying to play. Miyamoto leaves his poor mark on yet another game, time to retire him for good.
What's even more amazing, the author of the article, Jose Otero, is a total diehard Nintendo fan. If someone like that rates the...
There will be good trade-in options from many retailers, so it won't be bad for anyone. Plus, no one is forcing anyone to upgrade in the first place, the existing PS4 model will still work just fine.
@ hvd222 - Your analysis makes no sense at all. Why are you adding TWO PS4 consoles together? Two are not required, and there will most likely be good trade-in options available from many retailers. No matter how much you wish for it, PC gaming isn't going to replace console gaming, anytime in the near future.
@ Neonridr - As pointed out by extermin8or, no one is forcing you to buy an upgraded PS4, why do you feel the need to complain about it? I think it's a great OPTION (not requirement) for people who want a boost to the existing PS4 console, and a great idea. It seems like the people complaining about this upgraded model just aren't thinking things through very well, and are just complaining for no good reason.
Unfortunately Nintendo's past "quirky and unique" hardware was all crippled by terrible gimmicks, and had low-spec, feature-lacking hardware to boot. If you want Nintendo to fail once and for all with their gaming hardware, by all means hope for something "quirky and unique", because that's what will happen if they follow the same approach.
Unfortunately, both games (Kirby and W101) were complete commercial failures, selling only 400k-500k worldwide. Most Wii U owners skipped both of those games, and for good reason: they were crippled by gimmicks that forced people to use the gamepad for no good reason.
Kirby in particular, made gamers stare at the dull, low-res gamepad for the entire game, meanwhile being unable to enjoy the colorful graphics on the TV.
W101 has an awful gimmick where gamers a...
No, it really isn't a great game. I think it would have been a "good" game, if they hadn't forced the annoying motion controls and dual screen gimmicks, but they did do that, and pretty much ruined the game.
