Can you see how much time it took to make a viable PC emulator, when we had 8086 for many many decades? You not only have to emulate the CPU and GPU, but all kinds of chips on the motherboard (memory, timer, interrupt, IO, floppy, HDD, etc, etc, etc) controllers. Now we can run PC inside a PC at 2-3 times speed degradation only.
Look at Sony and Microsoft. With all those software teams employed by them, emulation of PS2 and original Xbox is not perfect. And Sony made a shortcut, ...
This way I can "rent" Peggle, then Peggle Nights then Zuma, etc, each for 88 days as mentioned before.
This does not make any sense at all.
It was not as good as it was hyped to be, however Fable 2 was really satisfying for me.
There are so many elements in the game, every choice meant something, especially the only way to backtrack was to start all over again. (Don't want to spoil, but there are many moments like this). And the world really felt alive and dynamic.
Hope Fable 3 only becomes better (with a real online feature for example).
given Microsoft's past, it could be anywhere between Halo 4 to new DLC for Pacman.
So I'm not setting up very high expectations, but waiting patiently.
Even though, I found the fights repetitive and boring (especially on the last two discs), I kept on going, the story, and presentation was top notch.
I hope the next one catches up with the "latest innovation" in RPG games, i.e.: ability to skip encounters if we wish. I really disliked forced random encounters with low level enemies, which takes 4-5 mins, but gives only 1% experience.
First to go was Safari, then IE8 and Firefox. And those were default installations, too. (Last year Safari went down with default install, but IE and Firefox required Flash, and similar plugins to be installed in order to be vulnerable)
As far as I know Opera and Chrome hasn't gone down, yet.
However I don't think I'm changing browsers anytime soon. I remember, even when Firefox used to occupy 2GB of my memory, that I did not switch.
Microsoft previously stated that they will not "milk" the franchise to go as far as "Halo Kart". They wanted Halo name to be remembered with more successful stuff.
But one cannot always rely on the statements of big corporations.
Except for a few (minor) problems, the last two driver releases have been working on my Windows 7 x64 machine fine. However...
As writing this DxDiag told me I have DirectX 11, with DDI 10.1 hardware, and WDDM 1.0. (Catalyst 9.2)
Now I upgraded to Catalyst 9.3, and it tells me I have WDDM 1.1.
So they actually have upgraded their driver model. It might be newsworthy.
Come on, did you even "try" to read what I said.
GPUs are no longer "graphics only", but a very powerful general purpose (cannot emphasize this enough) numerical processors.
Take a look at http://gpgpu.org/, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
And finally, we're not comparing CPUs, but "systems". Last time I che...
But not on the CPU, of course. Any PC with a decent (decent: at least $150) "graphics card" can render it.
Nowadays GPUs can be used as general purpose computing (both nVidia and ATI, also DirectX 10.1, and Java (third party) provides APIs for this). (Look at folding@home project for a practical use).
As far as I know PS3's cell is capable of a theoretical 1 TERAFLOPS, whereas
* The best Intel processor can provide ~50 GIGAFLOPS ( see
Wii, even though popular, has disappointed me, a lot.
I rememeber how excited I was when it was first announced, then I patiently waited to choose between Wii, PS2, and 360 (PS3 was $500 at that time). Anyways, being patient paid off, and I fortunately did not make a mistake of buying a Wii.
Graphics become important, only after the gameplay mechanics are mastered enough to a degree.
For example, original half-life did not look as good as quake 3 of its time, however sold more, and critically liked much better. Since it produced much better experience.
Am I the only one that finds these "new" technologies uncool? I was actually expecting a bit more.
Most of them are already done, or not interesting (for example first one Presto, allows instant boot of your pc -- if, you're going to use Linux. Linux is not bad, but it's not everybody's choice).
If you read the article, and the comments below, you'll see that they're suing TomTom for violating their patents for "vehichle gps navigation", not for using Linux.
Suing Linux is a foolish idea, and Microsoft (hopefully) knows that. For starters "who" exactly will they sue?
Apple (and Google btw) knows how to sell mediocre solutions to the masses. PSP is much advanced than iPod/iPhone, however unfortunately what the article tells may come to be.
Sony (and Microsoft) does not know how to make things simple enough for the masses. For example I had very hard time converting a few movies to PSP, although I have long time experience with portable devices. And if it weren't for the Amazon holiday deals, the games were too expensive for me. And finally &qu...
However, I'm going to buy this. Steam somehow manages to convince me to buy plenty of games, that I'll never have a chance to play at all.
Come on, this game extended the life of survival horror genre. Just look at the "lullaby" (twinkle twinkle little star) trailer to see what I mean.
It was all about dismemberment, and I remember dying in tens of different (gory) ways.
The ending was good. What do you expect, a Shakespeare work?
And this comes from a person who finds Gears of War 2 better than Killzone 2 (in overall quality, not graphics, of course).
Yes, the scars (thus dying) has an impact. When you have too many scars, your attractiveness, and thus your pureness takes an important hit. You'll have to wear much more make-up and fancier clothes to make up for that.
