Unfortunately it does not work well enough. I have my own powerful PC for general stuff, and PS3 has a usable web browser, so basically it's not needed.
The main issue is the RAM. It only provides 200MB usable memory, where a basic GUI (Gnome or KDE) itself requires more than this.
But... It may be argued that, built-in homebrew/linux capability has deterred hackers from cracking PS3 (it no longer is necessary).
That's good. If you do not mind paying "something" for games, but don't like paying full, there is a much better way than pirating.
---> Follow gaming deals, and trade your older games.
Sites like Goozex, CheapAssGamer, eBay, Steam, GoGamer, and GameSpot (with plenty of coupons of course) provided me with a very healthy supply of latest games at low prices (sometimes even providing a profit in the process).
If you can spend time on modding y...
Once they make up their mind about pirating games, they already have their own excuses, and do not listen to logic anymore.
I know, because once I used to do so (then I purchased every game I pirated to make up for it).
By your logic, my PC has a blu-ray, and my friend's PS3 has blu-ray too. Blu-rays are copiable (even PS3 games, yes). So PS3 is a PC. (No I don't believe this, just demonstrating your logic).
Come on, the problem with 360 is not using a DVD drive, but storing the DVD drive authentication key chip on the drive itself. Please watch the thing it's very informative.
Please take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watc...
I know it's long (almost an hour), but it really describes in detail, how 360 is different from the original (thus also from a PC), which steps MS had taken for security, and finally why it fell short.
And when done, you can also check http://en.wikipedia.org/wik......
Paying a monthly bill for a game? I don't play that much to justify that (and I don't want to play, either).
Ok, I know I'm paying for gold. But it was $30/year, and comes with many goodies (like weekly discounts, which I've used to recover around 1200 points).
I really would like to play this game, I'm kidding myself too, but hope it offers a free option.
If you look digital distribution as "download only option", then you're right.
However that's not the entire story. In this particular case of Steam, you get a lot of value out of the system. Like ability to download the game anywhere you go, as many times as you want. Or direct access to in-game voice chat through entire game catalog.
These (and many other things) makes Steam the choice of many gamers. (Including myself).
If you read the entire article, they are talking about Blu-Rays.
However, the reporter - probably somebody not educated in technology - thinks about Blu-Rays as DVDs.
Basically he says that:
"We do not support upgrading from BETA to RC, or from RC to RTM. However, if you really must, this is how you do it... (details)"
It's understandable, since providing upgrade paths are real pain for developers, and they would better focus on real general issues instead of these special ones.
MS was the publisher of Braid, and they chose the price, that part is correct.
However they are not the publishers of these two games, and as many people stated above, it's the same price on PC. It does not make sense for a publisher to sell a downloadable game for $20 on PC and $10 on XBLA.
It seems like it's easier to use counterfeit software, instead of paying it, or leaving disagrees, without actually writing an opinion in a reply. :)
Come on, we're talking about "pirated" Windows versions here. Unless you're living in a third world country, or making very small income there is no need not to pay the guy who built the software. (Even those conditions do not make it legal, but merely "understandable").
If you do not like MS that much, and not want to pay them money, you can always install Linux (like I did in my high school years). It is always free, and comes with the satisfaction.
As somebody commented earlier "I could actually play that game".
They are assuming too much.
I use my PC for bluray playing, even though a PS3 is connected to the same screen. And this concerns me for my 360, since I use it to stream Netflix movies.
So, shall I stay with Netflix (w/o bluray) and continue watching movies instantly for free?
Or, shall I switch to Blockbuster, with cheaper bluray rentals, but forgo my 360 as a media player?
This is not a good move...
But it's something they have to. I hope you're not right. Because if they introduce a better 360, I'll upgrade to that when the current one RRODs. However what would you do given the choice:
* A new console (720) with no games, and no backwards compatibility @$499
* or replacement 360 @$199 (or less, assuming you keep the hard drive).
However if they provided
* A new console, with full 360 backward compability, that can even run games better (i.e: Gears 2...
As many people stated, it is very natural to start developing (at least ideas) for your next product. MS already spends billions in R&D each year, and they could easily hire a few hardware designers, artists, etc to brain storm ideas (even if none of them are used).
And still we have plenty of obvious stuff to expect from the next console:
* Rock solid backwards compatibility (they own the rights to the hardware design, so why change it)?
* Faster chips (CPU/GPU) ...
But Gears also had the same fate.
I actually bought both of them (Halo 2 and Gears for PC). But I don't think I'll get Halo 3 on PC (now I have a 360. I actually traded those two and got 360 version of Gears after I bought the console).
Anyways, I hope they do not waste time on bringing Halo 3 to PC, but work on something more productive (like getting a proper Rare game on the console).
Halo 3 is still selling, and its multiplayer is one of the most played on Xbox live (and some of the weeks the most played).
It does not make sense to port it to the PC. We all know how well Halo 2 sold there.
Here is the second part:
http://www.gametrailers.com...
(He talks about the sandbox, and how you can edit your game in realtime (probably on PC), and pickup the 360/PS3 controller and try it on your console immediately).
for prices like 800/400 I went for many "impulse" buys, sometimes without even trying out the demo (on the account of friends' recommendations).
However, for 1200+ points, I really need to justify myself to buy the game. And actually I've not bought a single game at those prices.
