I don't think anyone can rationally accuse Steam of monopolizing anything. They give out VR software, no monthly fees, they propped up Oculus for years, open source engines for free, they give and give and give.
Steam machines are a chance for Consolers to see the other side of Gamjng.
The cheapest Steam Machine comes in under $500 and still blows the doors off of Ps4/X1.
I'm personally going to invest in a Steam machine for when I travel. I hate leaving my steam library at home. Yes, i can and have built my pc, but finding a case that can house some power and yet be portable, isn't cheap.
This is seriously looking like the best Mortal Kombat game yet.
Absolutely right. There is a reason why the game is that big. Textures is one thing but the space combat and FPS elements make this almost 2 games in one.
And Ive even heard rumblings of native VR support for Star Citizen. That alone would push the resources needed as you have to add much more detail to VR games and somehow double the image.
Off Topic: Why does the author keep throwing the PS4 out there? "Star Citizen would take up 1/5 the PS4 Hard Drive&qu...
Im getting anxious to see which new games start hailing SteamOS as well as Windows.
I think he means the Halo franchise won't make the jump.
I've used the Dk2 and it's probably as heavy a VR unit as you can find. I had zero neck pain after around 6-8 hours in a day. As for looking around, it's no more taxing than looking around in your day to day activities.
The matrix/plug-in-and-play/anime VR you speak of is a long ways away guy. I would give current VR a chance first.
@monkeyman
Seeing is believing for VR. Once you experience it, there is no going back. I've only played the r...
I would go up to $400 for the Vive. The Rift demos and SteamVR catalog gives me security that this tech has a future.
Not to be a dick, Fro. But it's "seize". When I read your comment I thought you were imploring Microsoft to stop the sale.
Just a friendly heads up.
Pandamobile said it very well up top, it is almost akin to a religious experience. You can tell everybody you know about VR, but its something that you have to experience yourself to understand the appeal.
The author has some good points, but Assassins Creed and Watchdogs took stealth in 2 totally different directions than Dishonored. I definitely dont think there is a stealth saturation going on lately.
I absolutely love the patience and planning of Stealth genre. Dishonored and Styx have eaten up much of my time.
A sequel to Dishonored would definitely garner my interest.
Maybe its time to make a switch and go the Pc route there friend. Especially if you own an X1, there is a pretty good chance a lot of franchises will transcend and make their way to Pc.
Maybe not halo, but Forza, Ryse, and Dead Rising 3 all made the jump so far.
The PS4 has only been out a year. Console Gamers dont have much choice right now. There is a reason why mediocre games sell on current gen consoles- lack of content. My Pc catalogue is already at 98 games. Because Pc is also Backwards compatible, I am able to play any game past or present in 1080p/60fps.
I have so many games still not installed that Im not going to jump on a preorder or "Day One" on any game in the near future, save Arkham Knight.
I think VR is definitely here to stay. There are more and more games that I think could apply to VR. A Minecraft in VR, even a VR exclusive COD would make bank.
The Steam Machines are still preliminary. Lots of time for feedback and tweaks before they go Gold in November. Im not too concerned with having too many options at the moment.
Seems the Pc version is on Life Support though...
I would consider a lower-end Steambox for sure. I work on the road quite a bit and i would love my Steam library on the road. If Valve can add a media player and apps for Netflix, YouTube, etc. I think it would be perfect for my needs.
VR isn't exactly the same tech as passive or active 3D. VR literally shows you 2 images which tricks you into seeing depth.
The Dev kits are a little rough, but I'm pretty confident with quick fps it will be hardly noticeable.
I'm anxious to see the Steam Controller tackle this kbm on the couch issue. I still play all my games in big picture mode on the couch with ol reliable 360 controller.
