But I still see this dearth of developer emphasis on the PC as a lead developmental platform (or a developmental platform, period) as turning out to be a permanent trend, and it's trending downwards. True, the release of console generations has lead to ebbs and flows in PC popularity in the past, but then again consoles in the past have failed to really replicate the same gaming experience as the PC. This has for the most part changed in the last console generation or so, where many previous ...

Didn't Crytek themselves state that the CryEngine 2.0 can run at around High settings on "consoles?"

Source: http://pc.ign.com/articles/...

Granted, that's referencing the engine itself, not necessarily any game in particular, but one can reasonably take it mean that Crysis is thought of as the hypothetical benchmark in mind for how the engine would perform on consoles in an actual ...

Personally, the PC can keep it. I don't think there's much interest in seeing this (year-old) FPS ported over.

I don't think any of them even care. PC gaming isn't a blip on the radar on most console player's minds.

This article is really only remarking about the health of the PC HARDWARE market, not the profitability and sales of the PC software sector, which is the most crucial figure/number of any relevance to videogame publishers and developers. PC hardware components themselves may be attaining healthy sales, but the fact that the article even mentions the tendency for PC gamers to "buy one or two games and stick with them for a long time" is not the most encouraging sign.

I expect the sales potential for Blu-Ray to grow over time as the percentage of households with HDTVs continues to gradually increase over time. As more and more people migrate into the HD era, more people will want to be able to watch high-definition movies and content on their new HDTVs.

I'm all about the games, and consoles have all the games I could personally want or need.

Plus, all the convenience, comfort, and networking features don't hurt either.

Expensive, yes, but the graphics engine has already been finished along with all the accompanying PS3-specific performance optimizations and technical breakthroughs.

I have to respectfully disagree. Playing in 480p (progressive scan) is bad enough, with plenty of unsightly jagged edges and aliasing/pixelation issues that serve to mar and cheapen the overall visual experience. Trust me, I know--I have a slightly older-generation HDTV that doesn't support 720p, so I'm forced to play some PS3 games in 480p. But you're even trying to suggest that 1280x720p is somehow comparable to 720x480i (interlaced), which is a little ridiculous. If you do the math, 720p i...

I just don't see the point. Why not just get a cheaper system like the Wii and the PS2, which have many great titles for them? With a PS3 on an SDTV, you're firstly not getting arguably that much of a graphical upgrade from the previous generation, anyway (sure, there's upgrade, but most of the graphical details are lost by playing in SD). And secondly, you're only wasting your experience by playing through these PS3 games in SD instead of waiting until you're properly equipped to fully expe...

This problem should definitely be addressed, but in all honesty, people shouldn't be playing their PS3 on an SDTV. A Wii or PS2 would be a lot more befitting of SDTV users until they do eventually manage to upgrade their sets. By that time, they should be able to then reap the benefits of price drops on one of the more advanced systems.

Better than what McCain and Bush are doing, which is take the bubbles from those with only 3-5 bubbles, and redistribute them UPWARDS to those with 8+ or more bubbles. I assume that sounds better to people like you?

Btw, if Obama is Socialist/Marxist, then Ronald Reagan was a Socialist/Marxist too; Reagan created a tax program that involved literally taking money from the wealthy and putting them into the pockets of middle and lower-class workers, something called the "Earne...

But then think of the marketing potential and buzz that would surround a full-fledged Blu-Ray Game-plus-Movie combo. I think it would certainly help promote additional sales of PS3 units, as well perhaps move copies of the game and movie that wouldn't otherwise have been sold. Quantum of Solace is a decently anticipated game, but I don't think it's one of this year's bigger blockbusters.

Some people just aren't into this kind of game, I guess. They don't have the patience or attention span for traveling from location to location, using a little bit of tactical forethought before a mission, preparing for the mission by equipping yourself with fresh weapons that won't break on you (like the reviewer was whining about). Golly gee, you have to actually PREPARE for a firefight before you get into it--otherwise, you'll get your ass handed to you. Who'd have thought that?

Why are people disagreeing with me? I'm stating nothing but PURE, TECHNICAL FACTS. The PS3 version of Far Cry 2 doesn't support upscaled 1080i/p output. Look at the back of the box. Test it out for yourself on your own PS3. Don't just take my word for it; verify it on your own.

I made the post that this N4G report is linking to. That is another fact. Feel free to send a PM to the Beyond3D member "Statix," which is the poster whom Quaz51 is quoting. I will verify to you ...

In the few PS3 games that support a 1080i/p upscaled resolution (e.g., Uncharted, Dead Space, Warhawk, LEGO, Burnout: Paradise, Turok), the game will run in 960x1080 while in forced-1080i/p upscaled mode. However, while displaying in regular 720p, PS3 games will render at the standard native resolution of 1280x720.

This is because the PS3 has a slightly dysfunctional hardware scaler that can only scale pixels horizontally. 960x1080 is an easier resolution for the PS3 to upscale t...

I made this post that this N4G report is linking to. The final retail version of Far Cry 2 does NOT run at 960x1080.

Please note, that although my original observations as to the resolution of the trailer back in August were correct, Ubisoft has since REMOVED the 960x1080 mode (the resolution at which the PS3 version ran while in forced 1080i/p upscaled mode).

I tested my copy of Far Cry 2 on PS3, and can confirm that there is NO 960x1080 (forced 1080i/p upscaled mod...

Far Cry 2 on PS3 effed me personally up the as*, because it doesn't support 1080i/p (upscaled) output. My TV is slightly older-generation, made by SONY in fact, and doesn't support 720p. Therefore, I'm forced to play FC2 and many other PS3 games downscaled to 480p. :(

I just wish so much that the PS3 had an internal hardware scaler that can do 1080i/p (upscaled) for every game like the 360 does.

I think the game is great, but the voice acting is really quite horrific. Some of the worst I've heard in a recent videogame. The voice actors were going through the motions on this project.

I just smell biased, inconsistent, and awful scoring on the part of IGN. How do those morons give Far Cry 2 an 8.5 is Lasting Appeal, a game with 50+ hours of gameplay, multiplayer, and map editor?

They gave the same 8.5 Lasting Appeal to Dead Space, whose SP campaign is only ~8 hours, with NO multiplayer whatsoever!
