Correction: PC is limited by current consumer-level technology.
It's also limited by the near-monopoly of the dated x86 CPU architecture and whatever processors Intel chooses to sell you (well, there's AMD also, but Intel still essentially has the stranglehold).
Where did you read that PS3 version of the BF3 runs at 1280x704?
Did you mean to say 1280x720?
I_find_it_funny: Thanks for the HD vid.
AA looks good, resolution looks like full 720p, textures look crisp, and framerate is solid. Can't ask for much more from the 5-year old PS3.
The resolution, AA, and framerate looks good. Textures and SSAO also. Besides some screen-tearing, I don't see anything to fault about this PS3-version footage at all.
Also, I don't know what people are talking about "jaggies" or "low-res" for... this looks like it's using MLAA (as seen in God of War 3, Killzone 3, and Portal 2) and MLAA almost completely eliminates jaggies.
I think some people (fanboys?) are seeing what they W...
I'm going to laugh when the pixel counters come out and confirm that the PS3 version runs at 720p and features high-quality MLAA.
I think I'll watch the footage in HD for myself before jumping to conclusions, rather than rely on the word of a PC fanboy.
Hope not... but he was using a different weapon. In the previous gameplay footage, they used an ACOG scope; This time they used a holographic sight. Maybe the ACOG adds more recoil?
Just saw it, and it was so disappointing. The video was so blurry that you could hardly make out any details. Plus, the stream was being overloaded and skipping all over the place.
More and more evidence that the PS3 version will be the awesome. First, a DICE dev let it leak on Twitter than the PS3 version had a lead because of "offloading graphics to [SPUs]." Then they showed only PS3-version footage in the Frostbite 2 trailer. Now, they're showing off the PS3 version on Jimmy Fallon.
Hope the PS3 version of the game turns out to be something special.
@Sony360: I'm sorry, but I will have to respectfully disagree. I personally feel I have a decent grasp of technical knowledge regarding gaming graphics and technology. Sure, I would agree that the 360 and PS3 are "about equal" in terms of multiplatform development, but the only reason that is the case is because a) most developers use the 360 as the lead platform first and foremost, with the PS3 version usually being a port; and b) the 360 has a more PC-like architecture which i...
Microsoft's Hotmail got hacked a little while ago. I was forced to change my password on my Hotmail account.
You think this would be the first time it's happened?
DICE developer Johan Andersson (@repi on Twitter) CONFIRMS that those few seconds are indeed PS3 footage!
http://twitter.com/#!/repi/...
Like how Portal 2, LA Noire, and FF XIII looked better on Xbox? Lol.
DICE even leaked on Twitter a few months ago that the PS3 version had the edge because of "offloading [graphics processing] to the SPUs" of the Cell processor. More and more multiplatform games are starting to look better on the PS3, and I wouldn't be surprised if Battlefield 3 continues this trend.
DICE is TELLING you it's in-game footage. Are you saying they're lying?
How many times has a developer expressly and overtly LABELED something as in-game footage, and it didn't turn out to be the case?
Nice find by the author. I'll be combing over that trailer for a while.
Has anyone seen any other footage that could be from the console versions of the game?
I don't understand if there are game developers out there that are weird about PlayStation Move. What's the problem? You know, if you don't like it, don't play it.
"...the demo was still being presented from PC, they were just using a game-pad."
Guess the game wasn't being demoed on consoles. :\
But will it still be open-world?
Far Cry 2 was unique and stood out from the FPS crowd in that it was an open-world FPS w/ a thick sense of environmental atmosphere. This trailer made it look like it's going back to a more linear, traditional level-based structure. I hope it's not the case. I've been waiting a long time for FC3, as I was a fan of the first 2 games.
Different time of day on the PS3 version (different Sun global light position); the HDR and bloom is probably just overexposing the wall and masking out texture detail.
The different lighting probably accounts for many of the differences people are noticing in the shadows being cast as well.
