I'm sorry, but the MLG is not anywhere near the standard by which the industry is measured. Try again.
Immersion is not dependent on specs and it never has been. If hardware drove the ability to be "immersed" in a game, no one would buy handhelds, retro consoles or even the less-powerful current gen consoles. Hell, indie games on PC can immerse you, even without photorealistic graphics or technical ferocity. It's a design element, not a technological one.
The PS2 was the least powerful system technically during the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube gen, but it still was the fron...
So putting these franchises on another company's system is the only way to make these games "badass"? I hope you realize that those would still be Nintendo's franchises, not Sony's or Microsoft's, and Nintendo would still have creative control over their development.
Putting them on another system wouldn't do much to change them from a design standpoint at all.
Now by "addiction expert" do they mean an expert studying addiction's effects on other people or just knowing a whole lot about what it's like being addicted to something?
I have a feeling it's not the former...
"belittling the brand"
So calling the PLAYstation line of consoles "toys" is belittling the brand?
I don't see why calling any gaming system a "toy" is some condemnation of anything. You can do a lot of things on any video game system that are beyond simply playing games; we've grown to expect streaming services and multimedia support in our systems nowadays, but they're always interpreted as gaming systems first, whe...
If Sega does do a Humble Bundle, I'm curious as to what they would include...?
This is really good. With Miyamoto moving toward advisory roles, these series are more than likely going to be in others' hands.
Very exciting to hear how great this game is, even without Miyamoto's direct involvement. These fresh proteges could do wonderful things with Nintendo's series in the future. Sky's the limit at this point.
That sure looks like a trap...
I think this will depend a bit on how well Sony and Microsoft keep their new consoles in stock. If shortages happen and Nintendo keeps things going with Super Mario 3D World and their surprisingly aggressive marketing lately, we could see the Wii U be a bigger hit than many might expect.
I agree with Extra Credits that we shouldn't take a side in whether unorthodox and adventurous game design or traditional involving mechanic focus is the way to go. Both have their advantages and both contribute to the medium's appeal.
However, I'm not sold on the term "interactive experience" because it sounds too politically correct, in a sense. I think the word "game" still has a potency and validity to it. There is a sense of user agency in...
The consistency in the sales argument is pathetically amorphous. People compare handheld to console sales, then tell each other not to do that, then say you shouldn't compare 7-year-old systems to next-gen, then say you shouldn't compare Japan sales to North American or Europe's.
No one's ever satisfied at the end of the day. There's no real answer and it's just plain stupid at this point.
"YouTube's Biggest Video Game Nerd"
Unless Kotaku is speaking literally and trying to make a very immature joke, I don't consider Francis to be the "biggest video game nerd." He's very funny and his rage-filled reactions are clearly demanding on boogie's part, but there are "nerds" on Youtube with more influence than Francis.
Kudos to boogie and Francis though.
In response to your reply,
While I do love platformers, so I will kind of disagree with you on that, I will agree that another game like Super Mario Sunshine would be cool. A lot of people didn't like it and I'm not too sure why they did. I really dug the tropical setting, especially levels like Gelato Beach.
"that type of game"
Could you elaborate a little on that, please?
Don't forget how "well" the Xbox line does in Japan.
If they did, they should use glitches like the ones in Rocky, Fallout New Vegas or, if they're daring, Goldeneye.
Bumping that N64 cartridge can take you straight to Nightmare Land.
I liked Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour on Gamecube. It was easy to pick up and play, but still had a sense of subtle depth. That Mario sports series would be something I'd like to see return someday.
That series should be revived too.
He didn't really discuss sales at all. It was more about his own view on what system was just more fun to play and the Wii U was apparently a very curious prospect to Jim.
Now do you mean a merging of equal leveling or just Sony controlling Nintendo as a second-party?
Either way, I can't see it. Sony and Nintendo's visions for gaming aren't entirely congruent. Even their respective mascots are very different from each other. I find it very difficult to compare Mario to something like Jak and Daxter. Very different ideologies.
