That's not 100% backwards at all. At least you can play your Wii games on the Wii U. Yes, upscaling would be cool, but I would hardly call that a real dealbreaker.
I can see this being a issue, but external hard drives are quite cheap these days. Also, I expect a majority of the Wii U owners who really invest their digital memory space in downloads will already be tech-savvy enough to have an external hard drive.
Apparently, it's a widespread issue concerning the 3.0.6 firmware. I've heard some say that Avermedia can't even replace the Game Capture HD after the firmware update unless it's under warranty. I also noticed that the 3.0.6 firmware is not available for download anymore from the Avermedia drivers page.
The warning is very much appreciated. I was just about to upgrade my Game Capture HD until I heard other horror stories about the upgrade. It's a real sham...
I'm stunned that this article was written. We know: people will draw lewd images on the Wii U, just like with Pictochat. Hell, I went to a gaming convention and played Pictochat with an entire room of people, with half of the messages sent in the room being poorly-drawn versions of penises.
That doesn't make this article any less unneeded or immature. Nice one, Kotaku. Top-notch writing, right there.
Yes, we all get shocked when a game with vast critical acclaim gets a surprisingly low score, but everyone has their opinion. While I don't support reviews that base that opinion on facts and/or specs that are inaccurate, I do believe that reviewers are entitled to their own evaluation of a game.
I think Catherine's great, but I also think Jeff Gerstmann's great.
I understand what the reviewer is saying with the inventory issues and the lack of personality. Still, I'm a fan of Paper Mario, so I'll still probably like it. Oh, and the goat was just plain awesome.
I never said anything about the Wii U being a failure. I don't think it will be anywhere near a failure in fact. Compared to the Wii's success, however, I just don't expect the Wii U to hit that "100 million+" mark, at least not at the Wii's pace.
Also, if a console sells out at launch, that's pretty much a given that the company making it is doing something right. I'm satisfied with that.
I think Nintendo will have a great s...
To answer the question that this article asks, yes, it very well could. I remember when the Wii info was released. Everyone wanted to try it. With the Wii U, Nintendo is trying to satisfy both the avid gamer crowd and the "blue ocean" crowd at the same time, while leaving both a bit alienated.
Nintendo struck gold with the Wii and the "mainstream" audience, and while I wouldn't call the Wii U dead on arrival, I don't expect it to sell as well as th...
7.5 isn't by any stretch a terrible score, but with expectations so high for this game, I'm sure it's a shock. I'm still aiming to get this game, as I really think Ubisoft is making progressions with this series.
"...a Facebook game spamming my feed..."
"A pop up tells me someone has beaten my time..."
I get what Webster is saying (I'd much rather play a game like Need for Speed than a Facebook game), but those two phrases sound awfully similar.
As far as the best in the series, I'd say Brotherhood (for a unified city to explore and surprisingly good multiplayer), but Brotherhood wouldn't have happened without Assassin's Creed II, so I will give II its well-deserved dues.
I'm very curious to see how the next Xbox will improve upon its predecessor. Sony has a pretty big collection of new titles on the way for PS3 and Nintendo will have already had the Wii U on the market for one holiday season (giving them some time for bigger first-party releases).
Microsoft is in a rather bizarre place with the 360. With so much Kinect focus and only a handful of major first-party games on the way, they need a big step up and bringing out a new system wit...
Yes, gamers want games, but they also want GOOD games. PS Plus is a fine service, especially considering that they offer discounts on immediate releases like Sound Shapes and fully free games like Just Cause 2 and the original Borderlands. It's great to see these high quality titles being offered so reasonably.
The only problem I see with PS Plus' philosophy on games is that you'll need more hard drive space. Those games will devour your spare storage.
I don't think they'll "dominate" but releasing the system a year before competitors should be beneficial, as long as they can keep the production going. Finding a Wii in 2006-2008 was damn near impossible.
Solid Wii U lineup. It'll be cool to hear more about Pikmin 3, Project P-100 and Trine 2: Director's Cut.
I have no clue why Nintendo is so hesitant to try a fully 3D console-based RPG with Pokemon. The fans want it; that's an absolute given. I know that the developers have said that the game belongs on handheld systems exclusively, but really?
And if it looked like the screenshots? Man...talk about amazing.
If Nintendo did something on Wii U that was even remotely close to this framework, consider me an instant believer.
I understand that this is a discouraging article, especially since it's pretty close to primetime for the Wii U, but I don't think Nintendo will just let the console go without some serious quality control on the hardware.
Sessler's point is valid that the Wii U would be competing with a number of big releases in 2012, but there's one thing he's missing. Nintendo NEEDS to release the Wii U this year.
Releasing it in 2013 (the same year that all of these delayed games are supposedly getting released like Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider) would be downright suicidal. It'd be much wiser for Nintendo to lay down their biggest cards in 2012 and grow from there.
"Milking" is an extreme term. There are much worse cases of over-saturation in the game industry than Mario. That being said, it's clear that Nintendo needs to spice up the New Super Mario Bros. series beyond an insane amount of gold coins.
Wow. Sony is doing this thing right, especially with the cross-platform subscription of PS Plus. That's a tough deal to pass up on all fronts.
