That's what I thought
Legion, that's an assumption on your part that is not based on any real numbers. There's no guarantee that a player who buys Rage has a HDD, so a developer is unable to assume that they do.
On top, I doubt Microsoft would allow it.
@Phunny:
Hard Drive transfer rate: 1030 Mbits/sec
12x BluRay transfer rate: 425 Mbit/sec
Hard Drives are still significantly faster, and pulling data from 2 different devices doesn't necessarily make it faster. In fact, throughput would still be lower if half the textures would be on blu ray and the other half on the hard drive.
Hard Drives are always going to be faster than optical drives. The only way to go faster is to use ...
@Frag, you're mixing up measurements.
2x on DVD is not the same as 2x on BluRay. The charts I attached shows what I mean.
In fact, 2x BluRay turns out to be just as fast as 12x DVD.
The reason they install 8 Gigabytes on PS3 and not on Xbox360 is not because of BluRay read speed compared to DVDs. It's because Sony's platform is consistent, every PS3 has a hard drive. Developers can take this as an advantage, and provide a manda...
It's Sony's platform. There are certain restrictions that apply, so that not every game that releases requires a 15gb install, as that would decrease potential game sales, as people would only be able to play 4 different games at a time with a 60 GB console.
There have to be rules to promote equality and sales of a platform.
It's not just BluRay that's too slow. Optical drives in general are too slow for games, and they present significant bottlenecks.
In a game textures have to be loaded in a fraction of a second for the best quality. An optical drive comes no where near the speed required for loading the textures in the required amount of time. They work around it by allowing textures to be delayed, e.g. popup.
Installing a game dramatically decreases popup, simply beca...
I love how people blame EA for all the bad things in games. The project is proposed by Bioware to EA, usually given a design and a plan for EA to read through. Since Mass Effect 1 was successful, EA would quickly green-light the next game, and Bioware would start on the game with their own Creative Freedom.
EA didn't change the game. Bioware did.
It was one year ago, he mentioned it in the video.
Very impressive indeed, if this actually does release it'll be interesting to see what Game Developers can do with it.
Except that Killzone's graphics were created by the technical team, not the level designer that's working at 343.
Wait, where does he say anything about the game? Watched the entire interview, and whilst I like hearing about the movie, I was expecting it to be more geared towards video games, you know, considering that the site is called "GamerTV", and the article's title clearly states he talks about the Sega game.
*Looks at agrees & Disagrees*,
Yep, there goes the News4Sony argument.
1. No-one's going to bother taking a geometric mean, as this involves processing 200 titles on a one to one basis.
2. Simple average is in fact the most sensible way to deal with this, as he didn't specify "our big first party titles", but simply "our first party lineup" which includes smaller titles and DLC.
if you want to calculate a geometric mean, go for it. I'm certainly not going to bother.
I'd say they're streamlining RPGs rather than simplifying them. There's a distinct difference between the two, and unlike the vocal minority wants to make you believe, it actually does make a game better and more accessible, as you don't have to "learn" to play it anymore, but instead you can just sit down and have a good time. You know, the thing games are intended to do.
So what if I don't like Online Multiplayer? That defeats 4 of the 5 points already...
Funny how he says "First Party":

Anyone notice the seam between Jacob's neck and his body? He looks like a doll lol.
First I see this:
"there is no reason to recommend it to you over any of the other hundreds of more accomplished and _unique_ titles that adorn the store shelves."
Then I see this:
"Go get CoD "
Then I lol'ed
NASA's computers are quite old actually, the reason being that they're afraid of issues with compatibility.
If only it wasn't pay monthly :(
