Every character in Smash has been on a Nintendo platform at some point though. Cloud in Kingdom Hearts games, which there have been multiple on Nintendo handhelds, and Snake was in Twin Snakes.
While gamers insult and fanboy at each other, the devs themselves celebrate and congratulate their peers across the world for creating amazing things. Sakurai is an incredible, dedicated developer and programmer himself. Look at recent pictures of him and tell me that Smash Ultimate didn't almost kill the guy.

Prime 2 is amazing, and notoriously difficult on the Gamecube. They lessened the difficulty on the Trilogy version. Play it on hard if you want an experience more like the original.

Well, at the same time, they made a creative choice, something the devs wanted to do, and they probably got tons of death threats over it. People definitely brought the political rage to them as well. Concerning the death threats, definitely happens to devs daily. I know that key CoD staff have security, as they receive threats whenever they nerf and buff weapons.
I don't think racism and sexism are exclusive to one political side lol. Many of those people you mentioned are angry, sad teenagers who probably have very little political knowledge in the first place.
I could argue, based on that logic, that it's disrespectful to have fun playing any WW2 game, because millions of people lost their lives and they'd find it insulting that you're laughing and making a game of it. I won't be buying the game, because 1 sucked and I'd rather not give EA money, but people not buying SOLEY for the female character thing need to find better things to focus their thoughts on. It's pretty ridiculous. If historical accuracy is important to them...
