Making Kinect optional is the last change MS needs to make before I'll support this console. They want to include it and charge $100 extra for it, fine, but I want the option to unplug the thing. Why is that to much to ask?

yeh, their communications and marketing were awefull. How long did it take them to mention the family sharing plan? The online games hub and cheaper prices...never mentioned. They could still do all that though but only apply it to digital downloads. MS mistake was trying to apply the DRM to physical disks and have them function as downloads. They should have seperated digital games and physical games into two seperate markets with seperate features: keep disks old school and apply all t...

Why couldn't all the benefits of the old system still apply only to digital downloads? They could still allow storing and loading from the cloud, create a marketplace hub, allow you to play games from any console, and sharing but just limit it to downloads. This is how MS should have handled it from the begining. Their mistake was trying to apply it to physical disks. They should have kept physical disks the way they always have been to appeal to those that don't want the changes/...

Ok, thats still good news and a step up from the current system but I would imagine they could still allow the family sharing feature too with digital downloads, at least with some caveats. Maybe it will come in an update. If so and the prices are lower for downloads (taking into consideration no manufacturing, packing, and shipping costs) than I'm excited to go digital.

Exactly the way it should be, along with lower prcies. If MS applied all the advantages (prices, sharing, access) to digital downloads but made physical disks act the same way they do for 360 it would be a win for those that like the familiarity and a win for those that liked the new features. It would make digital distribution the more attractive and popular method of buying games, which in turn would nudge us toward the all digital future MS wants. Then used games wouldn't be an issu...

not everything, kinect is still required

One point I'm not clear on; does your game library still go wherever you do if your games are downloads? In other words, if I buy digital downloads do I still have the ability to "play my games from anywhere" or is this feature taken away from them to?

I'm amazed at all the arrogant Sony fans patting themselves on the back thinking they made MS change their mind. Their level of self importance is astounding. Ms changed their mind becuase they couldn't afford to lose their Xbox fan base and have millions jump ship to Sony. Why would MS care about those that wouldn't buy their console to begin with.

ITS NOT OVER YET. There still is that pesky mandatory Kinect to deal with. If they lied this whole time about DRM beeing needed then they are probobly lying about Kinect needing to be hooked up for the console to run or that you can turn it off. One more change to go MS, make Kinect optional.

I'm sure their lying about Kinect needing to be hooked up for the console to run as well and that you can turn it off. Removing mandatory Kinect is the last change they need to make.

Then buy the digital download versions off live instead of buying disks.

Wow, this put a smile on my face. Ms finally listened and put out some good news for the One. The last change they need to make is not requiring Kinect to be hooked up. Take away the mandatory KInect and they have me sold.

I'm glad to see comeone considers the future a bit and how when the console is no longer supported the games will be gone and the console will be worthless. We will see this in a few years when the 360 is no longer supported and all the Arcade games for it can't be downloaded or played anymore. Unless they offer backwards compatibility on the next console the same will happen with the One. As a side note, if the One and original Xbox are both based on x86 architecture why can't...

The Xbox would only do well in Japan if it was made by a Japanese company. The fact is the Japanese are among the most xenophobic people on the planet and do not buy foriegn products. If Xbox/Xbox 360 had Sony or Toshiba or any other Japanese name stamped on it it would have done well.

I didn't know we were all clamoring for a digital only future without disks. I prefer a physical copy that comes in a box with artwork I can place on a shelf as part of a collection I can see and hold., especially if it comes with a decent manual. Rockstar anyone? I know this isn't a discussion about manuals, but as a side note they offer value as a physical entity and for complicated games like Oblivion I find them usefull. Going all digital has its benefits and I'm not again...

How does the DRM and used game restrictions help developers when MS is going to allow you to share your games library with ten people. It doesn't make sense. It just goes to show the how the whole used games boogie man is nothing more than a red herring, an excuse to implement control.

4613d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

The flaw in this arguement is that although they are restricting used games which will benefit publishers, they are also allowing you to share your entire games library with ten people. Any money saved/earned is lost by all the game sharing. It goes without saying that if I can access ten of my friends game libraries and play their games I won't buy them myself. I forsee much less games being sold for the One and thats not taking into consideration that PS4 looks like its going to far ...

Wouldn't my games library be updated if I logged on every time I installed a new game, making logging on at least once every 24 hours redundant and thus unneccessary? PS4 may not be allowed on DOD networks but offline play is still an option so that argument goes out the window. As for the 2 free games a month it is worth noting that it is only for the 360 and only until the Xbox One is released.

"In order to support an ecosystem where discs are no longer required to play games, Microsoft had no choice but to come up with another way to check whether the player was entitled to play each of the games installed on their console. Hence, the online license checks every 24 hours."
Can someone explain to me why this couldn't have been done just the same by requiring connections only when installing games? Whoever is in possesion of the disk would be the one entitled...

Mr. Mattrick, trying to wrap my head around understanding your DRM policies and the way this console is supposed to work is not my idea of fun.
