umm, don't you have to pick up the controller after you turn it on?
Just like Sony dropped PS2 backwards compatability to lower the price of PS3, MS will eventually drop the Kinect requirement for the One. They can't indefinately sell a $100 more expensive console thats weaker and expect to succeed.
Well said. Much of the Xbox fan base, myself included, saw what Kinect did for the 360 and are completely turned off by it. Its like a slap in the face, MS saying "well since you didn't come on board with it for the 360 we'll force it on you with the One. MS's fetish for Kinect over the last 3 years is giving them tunnel vision. Its an obsession. Maybe when they hit a sales slump after the initial spike that comes with a release they will offer a sku without it. They co...
An Xbox One without Kinect is the only way I'd buy the One. I won't spend a $100 to be forced to hook up some acessory I have no desire to use.
umm, yes the newer 360's still use power bricks.
Take a lesson from Sony MS, nobody likes power bricks. If Sony can build a smaller console with the power supply built in then there is no excuse for the larger Xbox One to still have a brick.
So basically MS is blocking people that actually want the Kinect from finding real uses for it.
This is another step backwards for MS and shows the One isn't designed with gaming first. Kinect might be fantastic with Skype, but it's no way a replacement for a headset in multiplayer gaming. How much more could it cost to throw in a cheapo earbud thing like Sony is doing. I have no problem buying a headset myself: I am glad to see they went back to the old style with the volume/mute buttons at the controller input: but many others will simply opt not to. My fear is Xbox live w...
Another step backwards for MS along with a non-removable hard drive and power brick. Kinect is not a suitable replacement for a headset: it will pick up background noise, force anyone else nearby to hear whats being said, and not seperate the gameplay sounds from the chat. Kinect might be ideal for Skype, but not for multiplayer gaming. How easy will it be to mute or adjust the volume on Kinect? Wireless headsets should be standard for next-gen consoles. At the very least MS could toss i...
$100 extra for an accessory I have no interest in using but is required to hook up...not for me either. For that extra $100 MS could have thrown in a headset (wireless should be standard next gen) but unfortunately they are having Kinect replace that too. I wish MS would quit their Kinect fetish; they're so obsessed with it it's consuming them.
I have to give Sony kudos for all the improvements they made with the DS4, even though they couldn't do anything but improve the rubbish that is the DS3. I got to use a DS3 over the weekend and it was far worse than I remembered. You almost have to be a fanboy to say its a better controller than the Xbox 360. Sony should have made the improvements years ago and introduced them on the PS3. The fact that they stuck you PS3 fans all these years with that cheap POS is a shame.
Exactly what MS should have done from day one. Make digital distribution attractive by earlier releases, lower prices, and perks such as sharing. There mistake was trying to make physical disks function as digital downloads, hence the requirement for all their restrictive DRM crap to enforce it. If they would have kept physical disks as they always have been but apply all the perks of their vision to digital they would have had two routes for gamers to pick from; the new and the old. In t...
Your'e kidding, right? How is the Kinect, which is going to be 8-10 feet away, an adequate replacement for a mic? How is it not going to pick up background noise? How loud am I going to have to yell for it to pick up my voice and not have it think I'm giving it commands? Why would I want my comms coming through the tv speakers for everyone else to hear? Having a headphone by my ear keeps the comms seperate from the game sounds. I prefer keeping my conversations somewhat private;...
For the next generation a wireless headset should have been standard and included with every console. I'm glad to see though they went back to the old style of putting the volume and mute controls on the controller input.
@mystogan. It doesn't matter if you ever go back online because your ten friends would have to go online to play the game from your library. So you could play it offline while one of your friends could play while online.
Of the five things listed in this article, only two can be taken seroiusly and only one are we actually losing. We're not losing disc free gaming; if thats what you want then buy digital. If you want disks and give your disk drive a break than install it to the hdd and keep the disk in. Just like on the 360 it will only run the disk to authenticate. The only point this article mentions that we will actually lose is game sharing, but even then I don't see how this still couldn'...
How would MS DRM policy have put more money into developers pockets when they were planning on allowing a family sharing plan that would have allowed everyone to share their games library with ten people? I know I would buy less games if I could log into 10 of my friends accounts and play the games for free. Also, if MS gives bonuses and makes digital distribution attractive than the whole DRM policy on used games is pointless. It's what MS should have done from the beginning instead o...
The console market, in general, isn't ready yet for MS's vision. Despite the benefits of all digital, consumers can't be forced into accepting something they aren't prepared to take. MS definately could have explained things better and got its message out sooner but they still tried to force too big a change. Their mistake was trying to make physical disks function like digital downloads. There was no point to even keeping physical disks, especially when you can play a gam...
Next time you want to post an argument here are some synonyms for stupid you can use to sound intelligent: moronic, dumb, asinine, idiotic, inane. BTW, your spelling and sentence structure makes your whole point about me being "stupid" ironic.
Interesting, but I'd rather spend a minute entering a 25 digit code once in a while than spend an extra $100 for an accessary I have no desire to use. Still gimmicky and I'm not sold on it.
