Movies and other programs on HD cable stations are gorgeous. Maybe not "Blu-ray" gorgeous, but much, MUCH prettier than DVD's or SDTV.

And the 360, obviously, looks much better on an HDTV.

I don't consider not having Blu-ray a "waste", sorry.

@6.2 -

I'm considering it pretty heavily. I figure I'll get a PS3 in the next year or two, or when my 360 breaks again - whichever comes first.

It's sort of ...

Despite now having a gorgeous 73 inch DLP TV that could handle it (the old 1080i CRT finally bit the bucket) I know I'm definately not getting a PS3 until I can get something similar to the 80 GB, with SOME PS2 backwards compatability.

If I'm paying $400 or more, I'd like to also get a PS2 in the deal, since my old one has been busted for years.

I lost faith when they screwed up the Wing Commander movie.

I mean, it had everything going for it. The game itself has a cinematic, epic story with plenty of action. The CREATOR of the game was directly involved. And yet, we ended up with one of the worst sci-fi films of the 90's.

Then came Doom. The game has a one line plot synopsis: "Teleportation experiments on Mars accidentally open a portal to Hell."

What do we get in the movie?...

That's actually a great idea. I always wondered why game developers didn't have reviewers check out a game during development in order to help fascilitate the design process and to fix potential criticism before it becomes an issue.

Oh whatever. That's a lame excuse people use for bringing it up in EVERY STORY about the 360.

You know what else I've found goes hand in hand with my 360? Fun games. But I don't see people talking about that every time the 360 or Microsoft is brought up.

Yes, the RRoD sucks. Yes, it should never have been this bad of a problem. But that doesn't excuse fanboys bringing it up EVERY CHANCE they get.

Wow, now I kind of want a retro 360 now with a wood finish.

For reference, we are now 10 posts into a 360/Microsoft comment thread, and there have been 2 off topic references to the RRoD in the supposedly-fanboy-free Gamer Zone.

In fact, right now (as of this posting, that is), the Open Zone has less fanboy-slanted posts than the Gamer Zone.

Welcome to N4G, baby.

We've known that the PS3 has a hardware scaler for some time.

The difference between the PS3's hardware scaler and the 360's hardware scaler is that the 360's is automatic and doesn't cause any performance problem when upscaling from 720p to 1080i, while the PS3's hardware scaler has to be manually controlled by the individual games.

So, if a certain company doesn't support 1080i on a certain game, and your TV only supports 1080i, you will be stuck at 480p for th...

That occured to me too, but somehow I doubt Google is also in on this. Check out the link - the patent is quite real:

It's not a question of having a custom soundtrack in a game.

What they patented was the integration with the 360 itself.

I'm not sure if you've ever used custom soundtracks on the 360, but basically, you can use your soundtracks for ANY game, and the in-game soundtrack is seamlessly replaced with the music from your soundtrack.

It's actually a pretty slick feature, which is why they likely patented it.

There is a link to the patent in the article.

It's also found here:

Huh, interesting. It would explain a lot.

If true, it's a shame. The custom soundtrack feature of the 360 is one of my favorites, and certainly one I use the most. I love streaming music directly from my PC, particularly during online play or racing games they have crappy modern music. No, I don't need two dozen rap tracks to race to, but thanks for asking. Songs from the Gran Turismo 2 or Vice City soundtrack? Yes please.

I was hoping by the time I picked ...

Heh, wow. Nice work, Random Sony BMG IT Employee. I wonder if the money to fund the lawsuit will come out of your salary after they sack your ass?

I agree with what he's saying about fanboys in general, but he focuses too much on Sony fanboys. Fanboys for anything - Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Apple, whatever - are all equally is bad.

The one point he nails, though, is, why do people have to argue over what system is best? We're all gamers - why can't we just enjoy GAMING? Why do we have to argue about petty things like XBL subscription fees or PS3 game installs?

Discuss the positives and negatives of X...

Even if the dollar is decreasing in value, all of the content should still cost the same for everyone. If that means adjusting the prices to meet economic fluctuations (either raising the US price, or lowering the South African price), so be it.

Anything less is unfair to SOMEONE (as this shows).

Just ask the Canadians, who have long paid far more for games and consoles (EDIT @1.2 below: and everything else in the damn world) than their American counterparts. ...

So if you download from the US Store and then later switch your console to the European store, the old content won't work? There's no option to permanently switch all of the content over? Or at least get a refund on everything downloaded and re-download it?

I didn't know that. That seems kind of lame.

This is the sort of thing that will always keep digital downloads a step behind physical media. I don't want a game or movie collection I could suddenly lose du...

Well, it's not an "opinion" that the price is different, it's just an "opinion" on whether or not that price difference is fair.

Am I the first one who noticed that "3 years" is crap?

He got his 360 in December of 2005.

It is not currently December 2008. This means it is quite IMPOSSIBLE for him to have owned a 360 for 2005. In fact, 360's haven't been OUT THAT LONG.

How did the article get approved with that headline? What's wrong with this place these days?
