It's only fair, check the world around us. If you pay for something you generally get a better service then the people that don't pay. Look at healthcare, or compare McDonalds services as opposed to a Restaurants.
Even though what we pay as Gold Members is pretty low (like $50 a year) compared to cell ($600 a year), TV/Internet ($1000 year), hell even coffee adds up to $400 a year. I'm pretty sure Live is costing microsoft alot of money but hey they can afford to take a hit si...
Its pretty smart because the money comes back to them. Instead of paying ATI and IBM, they can't do it themselves.

So basically you need to buy a bunch of memory sticks and all you UMDs are useless. I own a PSP but I stop using it because sony made it so hard to play my media. I tryed to put a video on it, like come on who wants to name their files in numbers.
