Trains were actually cut. There's footage of them in a prerelease video. Maybe they'll add them back whenever they manage to add in the rest of the cut features.
And this is why you should always be wary of games with day-of-release review embargoes. Just because one or two games got it right regardless doesn't mean its not almost always a bad sign.
Any price is too high for a damn DEMO.
Terrible lead character designs outside of the Valkyria and a hodgepodge battle system strung together from a Dynasty Warriors clone trying to mash into something with a vague semblance of the past games combat. It's a shame that this is most likely going to flop; not because I want more of whatever this is trying to be, but because Valkyria Chronicles deserves better.
Man if only this had co-op. How do you forget the best part about Minecraft when trying to ape Minecraft?
Not sure if the review mentions this but you're forgetting runs poorly on PC, awkward controls that you can't customize, lighting issues, sound issues, graphics reminiscent of X360, garbage AI, broken animations, repetitive missions etc. I enjoy the game but lets not pretend it isn't marred with issues. Let's not forget that they tried to hide all this with a review copy embargo set to the day of release, which is a pretty scumbag move.
BF1 Eddie Murphy statue.
More like the disappointment of the generation.
In terms of games released, absolutely without a doubt. Almost nothing could surpass that bucket of deceit and failure.
"its an open world game you have to expect bugs and technical issues to crop up"
No, this shouldn't be standard. Open world as a "genre" isn't some brand new concept, it's existed since the PS1. Developers should be able to get it right more often than not, but sadly that isn't the case. Why would they though, as people keep preordering even after getting burned repeatedly; and hell, they even defend getting burned.
Is it controversial though? The game is locked to 30 FPS on PC, there's already montage videos of glitches, sound issues are cropping up for everyone, the control scheme is pretty backwards with no way to fix it on a controller, and they hid all of this with a ridiculous review copy embargo set to the day of release.
@Errorist76 I'd be glad to show you my PS4 account to prove it.
EDIT: And your only rebuttal is downvotes. Stay classy.
For sure. I'm sitting here wondering "did this reviewer just forget the biggest blunder of the generation?"
Its not absurd at all. If you are going to try your hand in a genre that has one reigning champ, you learn what made them successful and build on it, and also learn what shortcomings it may have and fix them. That's how Uncharted went from "Dude Raider" to multiple game-of-the-year awards across the series. And on the flipside, that's why all the Monster Hunter clones dumped onto the Vita fall waaaaaay short of the amount of sales each Monster Hunter release generates.
The other issue being people not willing to admit they made a mistake when involving purchases. "I paid $60 and defended the game, if I admit I screwed up I admit I'm dumb" is pretty much the logic going on in their subconscious. Happens with big money items usually, which is why you'll never see a bad review of $1200 diamond-plated Monster HDMI cables even though they offer nothing over some monoprice brand.
@showtimefolks
"It's an open wo led with not much to do"
Seems that this is the case with a lot of modern open-world games these days. The Witcher 3, Elder Scrolls, Fallout and GTA5 just set the bar too high I suppose.
@Goldby
Look at the first comment's time, genius.
Your mention of Golden Sun immediately invalidates your rambling.
The stealth is fun despite being easy against braindead AI, the music is fantastic and the story told well. That's it. The driving is fine too, but 50% of the game consists of driving from point A to point B and with no way to store or upgrade cars it gets extremely repetitive quickly. There is no fast travel and most missions have you traversing to the other side of the map and then back each time, making driving more of a chore than entertainment. 3/10 is a bit low, but I'd agree wi...
