I have to admit I haven't read the article, but it has been said about previous systems as well. While encryption systems evolve, the methods of hacking them are evolving as well - somehow they forget this everytime they put up the topic.
Remember the DVD encryption that was advertised as uncrackable? A 10 year old cracked it a few days after it came out because he wanted to watch the DVDs on his Linux box...
Every encryption has the same effect: A challenge for hack...
Multiplatform games will look equal for the most part in the next years, developers have no reason to untap more potential out of the PS3 because the storage limit on the 360 makes it even harder to release identical versions on both consoles, and preferring a console over the other by releasing a better quality game on one of them is not an option anymore. Sure they could play the revenge card by providing better graphics for the PS3 because of the multiplatform "disaster" in the p...
I've started to learn C++ a few weeks ago and already have programmed some text based games (nothing special, simple little stuff like GuessMyNumber where the PC picks a number a you have to guess it). I don't have the skills yet to program this stuff on a level like an experienced programmer would do it, so I am using complex workarounds to get to the same result. Means I need a lot more time and confusing program structure to compromise the lack of knowledge. Kinda like Carmack if he progra...
I agree, but when it comes down to specific hardware he hasn't have a lot of experience. He treats consoles like PCs. Consoles - although same components (CPU GPU RAM) - are different. They don't need ridiculous amounts of RAM for example (I have 4 GB RAM in my PC and at least 2 are in constant use while NOT running a game). Cell is another Story. Remember Carmack yelling about MultiCore CPUs back when they came out? It's different to program for MultiCore thats why he doesn't like it. Cell m...
@PoG - Do you realize what these royalty fees are for? To make sure it's a pain in the ass everytime a dev "even thinks" about making a multi-disc release on the 360. They will probably end up stuffing everything on a single disc, cut some content here and there and crank down the overall quality because of these fees. MSFT want's to prove that DVD9 is enough for this gen, and still they produce multi-disc (Blue Dragon, Lost Oddysey, Forza 3) games themself and admit cutting content...
Why should it have any major impact, everyone who owns a PS3 hasn't bought it just for Home and wouldn't sell the PS3 because of another delay and buy a Hot Rrod.
Sure people will get mad, but they will calm down again. Releasing the open beta while it is still in the build up phase will do more damage than good. Think about it, 10+ Million PSN users would download it and the first impression wouldn't be as great as promised, at least half of them wouldn't care if it's not finish...
Free advertising is always welcome, they haven't trashed the game as I thought they would, so this can be considered positive press I guess.
My guess is Metal Gear Solid 4 isn't selling as expected because people are desperately trying to get that bundle/try to sell their 40gig. By the time Sony officially cancels this bundle Metal Gear sales will rise.
Well most people don't care about tech facts they see numbers and go crazy over them. 1x is the speed that is required to watch a movie on a certain format, it's not a valid indicator for speed comparisons between formats.
I don't know about other regions, but MicroSoft charges 3,63€ per minute here in Germany, Sony.. 14 cents, I own PS1, PS2 and PS3 and never had to call them in the past 9 years I owned a PlayStation console.
I can hear them say "2.4 bricks consoles!" as defense beacause there isn't much left they can do.
The fact that people are still supporting and praising this company shows that we have a major lack of intelligence in the world. A year back they admitted DVD9 is enough for the next few years. Just a month later they said Project Gotham Racing will see the content knife because of the lack of space. A year back..., and Xbox Fanboys still say DVD9 is enough. It was enough for PS2 and Xbox1, but not for HD...
Stuffing an obsolete drive in a console and calling it HD is the most shameless rip off IMO. PS2 games were using DVD9s even before Xbox360 came out and they weren't anywhere near HD. Sure some of the content were Making Ofs or similar, but it doesn't require the mind of a genius to forecast the need for more size, 1 level in KillZone 2 takes almost a quarter of a DVD9.
Carmack likes to poke Companies on their failures, at least what he thinks are failures (I don't agree on his opinion regarding Cell).
He is about to become the pope of the video gaming business. The pope points at third world and the rich countires are pumping money in that direction...
Edit: @3.2, KillZone 2 is going to be bigger in size, 2 Gig for 1 level, polygon count on 1 face equals 1 map in KillZone 1, it is definatly going to be bigger. If it will look bett...
Although I agree, its 8.5 GB per DL-DVD, means almost 6 Xbox Games on 1 BluRay (8.5 x 6 = 51, 1 Gig wasn't able to make it), and considering BluRay can be scaled up to "unknown" size without adjusting hardware, MicroSoft is in trouble. Maybe they quit the console market in a few years and release 50 of the best games from the 360 era on 1 BluRay 400gb on the PS3 or something.
"I bought a PS3 a few days ago, wired it up and placed it next to my xbox, after playing PS3 all day I turned on my Xbox and it RRODed instantly :("
Made my day when a friend told me that earlier today :D
Nothing would've stopped me from buying a PS3 and buy a 360 instead, it's a fact that the hardware of the 360 is an awful mess in terms of reliability and I never was a fan of paying for supposed-to-be-free online content. The same people who are complaining about the WoW fee pump money into the XBL Gold Membership (It sure is cheaper than WoW, but the games you pay to play online are free on other platforms if they are multiplatform). Plus, Microsoft always sucked in my eyes, they suck in te...
You do realize that without the BluRay drive the PS3 would be doomed to stay where the Xbox is right now? The size of the BluRay media allows better graphics, larger games, more content. So where is the point of putting an obsolete DVD drive into a console that was made for High Definition gaming if you already have a better format. MGS4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Gran Turismo 5, neither of these would come out as great as they are if the PS3 would still have that old chunck named DVD. It was...
Well, guess why they don't want the PS3 to sell well, it's obvious, they don't make a buck on the console, production cost and price are even now, so why sell more at this point when you can profit on it in the future, whats the point on making a price drop when you still lose money, this can't go on like that and Sony knows it (They have been in the industry for over 13 years now, they know what they are doing), so instead of flodding the market with cheaper PS3s for the customers and expens...
The 360 would even fry them for you and 3 red lights indicate they are done!
Sorry, couldn't resist :>.
