Not to mention the 30% cut Sony will enjoy for each game sold. How long until we see a 'Xbox Games Sell Better on PlayStation' headline? :P
and so does sega, and konami, and capcom, and bandai. third party publishers tend to that. ;)
The gift they keeps on giving.
And yet for some reason analysts and journalists seem to think that that Sony should mirror Microsoft's strategy...
Woof.
Ouch
I don't understand the argument of this being a waste of time or resources. This is very low hanging fruit for Sony, and in all likelihood didn't cost much to develop. Ignoring the potential new sales this re-release would generate, Days Gone sold nearly 8 million copies. That's a lot of folks to potentially sell a $10 upgrade to.
Given the little investment both in cost and development time, projects like these are a no brainer for Sony. Also given the fact th...
I'm glad this finally broke 2 million units sold, but Silent Hill 2 hit that goal in far less time and on fewer consoles. Remedy really needs to rethink putting its games on EGS.
Well deserved! Stellar Blade was awesome. May double dip on the PC release.
I'm torn. I loved the Norse Adventures of Kratos & Son, but an opportunity for him to revisit Greece is pretty tempting.
Console sales 100% matter to Microsoft. 85% of Game Pass subscribers are on console. If those sales dwindle, then the service cannot grow to the margins MS expects it to.
At the start of the start of the current generation, MS was doing backflips when it was revealed that the PS5 wasn't as powerful as the Series X and cost the same amount. MS was certain that with the power advantage, that it would finally be able to best PlayStation. But that wasn't the case. The m...
Is it just me, or does this data makes an even stronger case for timed console exclusivity?
Not only does the third-party publisher benefit from having a portion of development costs covered by the exclusivity deal, it also allows the team to focus on optimizing for a single platform first. This can lead to better performance and shorter development cycles.
We can see that even a year after its PS5 release, FF7Rebirth is performing well on PC. This proves...
Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War/Ragnorok, Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West, Spider-Man/Miles Morales, The Last of Us Part 1, and Uncharted have all sold incredibly well on PC. Yes, there have been a few flops, such as LEGO Horizon, Horizon Remastered, Sackboy Returnal, and Until Dawn, but all of these ports are low risk, high reward for Sony. The threshold for success on PC is much lower because the porting costs are so low.
Overall, PlayStation's PC strategy h...
These numbers all but reveal why MS is suddenly pivoting to a multiplatform strategy. A 30% decrease in console sales during a holiday month is abysmal. Also, given that 85% of Game Pass subscribers are on Series X/S hardware, console sales are vital to grow the subscriber base. If that shrinks, and it is, it means that MS has way less opportunities to sign up new subscribers. Yes, PC subs grew by 30%, but it's 30% of a tiny fraction of the overall subscriber base.
Give us Gabe Logan!
I'm in Paris right now and it's like Xbox does not exist.
As comforting as this is, it still monumentally sucks that we likely won't see a new game from either studio until the PS6. It especially sucks for Bluepoint who could have spent the last handful of years working on another high-quality remake similar to Demon Souls, like Legend of Dragoon, or another cherished Sony IP. Instead we have a hard reset.
PSSR is one of the main reasons why I can get behind the Pro. It's going to put future PlayStation consoles in much better position.
Man, Silent Bomber is such a gem of a game, and massively underrated.
Phil, and Xbox marketing in general talk way too much, and I really think it's been a detriment to the brand. Sony and Nintendo stay quiet for the most part and it works. And while Phil points out the 70% cut of software sales on PlayStation, Sony is getting the better end of the deal. 30% of blockbuster, AAA titles without having to lift a finger. It's also their competitor's titles which in turn has made the PlayStation ecosystem more enticing than ever before.
