This guy is way off base.
The difference with the Wii and the Eye-toy is that for one, the Eye-toy wasn't shipped with every PS2 sold, and therefore there were only a small number of games that actually used it.
The Wii is a CONSOLE... therefore EVERY game uses it. Comparing an accessory to a console is just plain dumb.

I agree with ya... but you shouldn't call them idiots for trying to make money. By that definition, 99% of the world's population are idiots.
And if you don't like their games, then don't buy them (which I'm sure you don't). They keep making them because people keep buying them. I think the last EA Sports game I played was in '97.

I think the "surprise" will simply be the date that Check Mii Out becomes available. We'll all just wake up one morning... and surprise!... the Wii is flashing blue with Check Mii Out d/l available.

But who can complain about something that's provided free? And if you don't want to use it, don't. Let's just hope they're spending equally/more time on ensuring there'll be some great -games- that use the online functionality too!

Yep, I agree with you. Nintendo stumbled across pure gold this gen. Price, word-of-moth, supply. They seemed to hit the perfect levels of each.
If the PS3 and the Wii were the same price? and they shipped the same number of units over the same time... I think they'd both be sold out everywhere. However... I think demand for PS3s would be higher, which would result in larger sales over a longer period.

Nintendo's marketing hasn't been anything special. I think it boils down to word-of-mouth, and people actually trying the Wii out.
If it was the "marketing-men", all the hype would have been -before- the system was released... but it only really took off once people actually started playing it.
(Of course all the smashed TVs and all didn't really hurt. You just can't buy that kind of publicity. All the news that made really put the Wii on the map!)

Article posted a few days ago listed Wii as best-selling console on e-bay (not that that's important)... The important thing is that the average price they were going for was $450! The average ebay xbox360 price was $350.

The real news is that the average price of Wii system sales on ebay is $455+.
That's just sick for a $250 system!... and just goes to show how hard they still are to find in retail, and how badly people want them.
I noticed the discs would feel a bit warm when the system wasn't on, and I was taking them out to pop something different in... but I've basically had WiiConnect24 running since Nov 19 without any problems.
Nintendo makes good stuff. Never had a problem with any console, controller, or peripheral in the past 20 years.
