Version numbers are just a way to keep track of what updates are done to something.

Sony could still be on version 1.1999 or 8.2. It depends on how they wish to set version numbers.

When a number jumps 0.1 to 0.5 these normally represent minor updates where as when whole numbers are raised these normally represent major changes.

In this case I think 2.10 - 2.17 a few changes where made that wheren't releasd to the public. So instead of releasing 2....

That's not really an excuse. If you buy a product that your intending to use for say 5 years it should last 5 years even if you do use it more then average.

Given this consoles life cycle it should've lasted at least 5 years before breaking.

If you look at it that percentage should be based on failure rate within the life cycle of the unit.

if consoles are failing within the first year thats 100% devided by 5. You come up with 20% per year of use. ...

didn't have rumble or analog sticks originally as part of the playstation either.

Once Sony created them though they started appearing in every new console bundle. After that people forgot about the old designs in favor of the new controllers.

I assume the newer PS3's will come standard with a DS3 once they're released. I also believe once those newer controllers come standard people will forget or not care that PS3 launch models didn't have rumble. Simple reason...

I suppose all electronics eventually break. it's just that they shouldn't break before their usefulness is wore out. If people are on their 3rd or forth console people are still using them when they break. So their not lasting long enough to complete the 5 year console life.

Seems like he contradicts himself a lot. As if he has to say "This is good but not good for the industry." "This is great but not so great" As if to say "do I really have to point out the good things?"

He appears to have a grumpy about the PS3 but wants to appear as though he doesn't. He's constantly trying balance his opinions so he doesn't appear to one sided.

Hmmm. My suggestion, Why not write what you feel so you can fully discr...

It may allow you reduced ingame loading but sadly the initial install will take longer. The issue i'm seeing is if you have a large library and like to throw a game in to play it with your buddies you have to say "we need to wait 30 min before I can load this game for us, I deleted it because I needed space."

This becomes even more of an issue with the PSN/HOME environment.

Take this situation: You might have 10 or more games that require full installs ...

There are advantages to installing but those advantages go hand and foot with the streamed versions.

I for one enjoyed the concept of no installations on consoles. Plug the game in load it up and it runs.

Running forced installs may decrease wear on the drive but, if your a person that just wants to say rent a game this looks bad for rentals.

You put the game in have a lengthy install decide you don't like it and have to delete it.

I don't believe forced installs are necessary.

The games companies can use the same techniques that where used in oblivion. Mind you I believe it's technically possible to stream new data to the HDD in advance.

The only real drawback should be the first load. Creating a forced install is an easier way to get things running smoothy. You don't have to insert or remove files after you load the game. The devs just slap the most frequently used data on the HDD and i...

Brand boyally and that Sony has the largest amount of 1st party development studios in the industry.

The only thing that we really need to worry about is if these studios are making great games.

It's simple they're afraid their preference will not be #1 and they'll lose exclusives or have their console get discontinued.

Another real reason is gamers are naturaly competitive. Debating about who's console is better by spreading FUD or propaganda they become part of a political game that entertains their agenda.

As an agent of their preference their entertained by the freedoms and anonymity of the internet.

To these people fourms and article...

A job is a job, you work for money not glory so higherups can fill their pockets off your backbreaking work.

He's right when you have dedlines you also have limits. If deadlines can't be met hire more people. I'd tell these guys to screw off and find a job someplace else or shoot myself for stupidity. They should just leave and join another company. Seriously if they are talented enough to work in the gaming industry there are a lot more lakes then there are fish to fill them....

This is how I see it for me.

Fear of being in last place and not owning a console that you prefer. Your choice is what drives these conversations. You see if your console is in last place devs won't support it or they'll offerer more support for the dominant console.

Look at the HD-DVD market. You see what happened to the company who lost the format war? All those early adopters lost money because large commercial retailers stopped distribution of the underdogs p...

If MS added HD-DVD people would've been complaining about the $ of the 360 just like the PS3.

This imho would have caused lowerd sales of the 360. MS wanted to strip as many features as they could to promote a lower price point. It allowed them to stay close to the sweet spot while making back some of the lost revenue from add-ons.

MS's nickle and dime tactic was the reason the hd-dvd player wasn't included in the 360. Looks like they cheated themselves.

So that excuses the fact that your paid good money for the hardware side?

A game console and it's games are linked like an iron chain supporting an anchor. The console is the link attached to at the anchor and the other links are the games.

If that one link in the chain closest to the anchor is defective and breaks the whole chain is defective.

I hope you see the logic in my explanation. What good are all those games if your console is in the shop...

If you have people buying replacement consoles like this guy it's no wonder 360's are still selling well. Some people like this poor guy feel trapped into owning a defective product and could care less of it's disposable hardware.

This is disturbing because i'm sure there're a lot of people with this same logic. It only feeds sales numbers with inflated figures.

It's like a porno addiction, you've seen one you've seen'em all but that doesn't stop you from looking...

Why?

If i'm playing an RPG with random encounters a long wait to start the fight will make the game piss me off.

If it takes 10+ seconds every encounter just to start and 10+ after it ends thats not enjoyable.

They've got every right to lower a games score over load times just as much as they did when they had a drop in frame rates on orange box on the PS3.

MS continues to rush things out in unfinished or untested states. If they sh...

(!!sarcasm alert !!)

It's only high if you use your console. Otherwise you'll never know. So if you don't want RROD the simple solution is to not use your console.

In any case these 16% are all wrong. I'm sure this is a base on the 1st year failure rate or by consoles that have lower then average use. Everyone knows all man made machines have 100% failure rate it's just a matter of time before they fail. Nothing last forever, the good thing is when hardware outli...

It seems EAs excuse is blame the PS3 first. Design it for the 360 then try and emulate it on the PS3.

Get it out quickly by designing it on 360 first or take time making it better on the PS3 first.

Why bother if you can make a rough sketch on the 360 then prt it over using only the main core on the PS3.

You all do realise Oblivion wasn't even designed to take advantage of the cell. It used the core to produce a stunning game. Based on reviews it lo...

I'm interested in the story after seeing this video. Is this also for the PS3? I can't read through site that has this video on it.

Edit nevermind I see it's 360 and PS3. Oh joy, lets hope gameplay lives up to the trailer.

on 360 again this would be the game. I think it'll help 360 sales is japan but.

Sheesh why did this guy make mystwalker entertainment? I'm hoping he ports this to the PS3. It doesn't look like it needs the full power of the PS3 and could probably be just as fun if it was ported to PS2. The graphics and sound seem more movie like. Nothing over the top that even a poor port would hurt, unless it was unplayable.

I think people fail to realise that this type of gam...
