You have to realize not all tech cost as much as it sells for. Take for instance in 1990 an 80 megabyte HDD was high tech and apparently cost over $100 to manufacture. Now days you can buy one for next to nothing.
The real stopping block with hardware and software is material cost. Tech prices are often offset to cover future R&D. Prices in tech are regulated to make a profit. So when it comes down to it that $100 item might cost $10 to manufacture.
This is where...
I bought their game and played it. Bought a bunch of expansions too. When I went to backup my game saves I found out all the support I put into the game wasn't mine to keep.
When we buy a games it should be our right to make backups. Bioware and EA have made it clear they will restrict their products. I love their games but for the most part they sure don't make me feel like I'm getting what I paid for. Supporting piracy isn't good either. Two wrongs don't make a right. These dow...
Piracy and cheating has created copy protection. Sadly the developers are the last to realize most of the crackers and hackers bypass their anti-piracy protections before a product even hits the store shelves. The companies that succeed in protecting content just redirect these types somewhere else or to other means.
I'm not 100% sure if developers would've taken these paths if piracy and cheating never happened. One thing is for sure I hate being restricted because a minority ch...
The mandatory part would only be on the developers end. The customer isn't the deciding factor. They have the choice to buy natal. If they choose not to then they might be limited to controller only games or lose features for games that are hybrids.
The biggest factor for making the developer support mandatory is so the customer sees the natal as a full supported hardware. Crappy games or not if it looks like the next big fad Joe Public is blind most of the time. If you get enoug...
I'm not saying these features have to make the game totally motion control or tacked on to the games experience. The features could be as little as the game having mandatory *basic* natal features.
Meaning at least system level support for Natal. MS can't have new games released that aren't compatible with Natal. It could be as simple as the player having access to the controller-less features even in a game that uses a controller by default.
Hopefully this isn't com...
MS sets guidelines for developers who wish to use their hardware. If they don't follow these they can't develop for the 360 hardware. Even if the developer didn't care about x-game chat it's still a mandatory feature for the developer to code for it.
The title should read, MS tells Ubisoft all future games require mandatory support for the xbox 360. In this way the product can be pushed on the rest of the user base. Don't think MS hasn't figured this trick out. Remember before in...
Well, I see the companies taking 2 approaches. Sony allows developers more freedom of expression. They also allow the developer to choose what features they support.
It seems MS doesn't allow as much freedom. When a developer licenses a product or wishes to utilize the 360 architecture MS set's guidelines. It's these rules that made Live what it is today. I have yet any games that don't support live in one way or another on the 360.
From my perspective I see this sup...
MS holds a large media department with incentives to both them and the developers. These include but aren't limited to TV, computer radio and magazines. I highly doubt MS will not go full force to hype and influence as many customers as possible into buying their new hardware.
I can be reminded of Sega CD expansions for the Genesis, The 32x expansion for the Genesis, The HD-DVD player add-on on the 360 and the PS2 camera.
Nothing is set in stone yet, let's not get ah...
a way of upgrading firmware DRM for newer games. Basically the new add on could make the modded 360's incapable of functioning on new games.
Just a thought.
I see a lot of opinion based comments treated as fact in this pages comments. We could ponder all day about our opinions but, in the end what's really going to matter is if they can pull it off or not.
I don't play FPS very much.
I wasn't thinking as much into those as adventure games such as Alen Wake or Resident Evil. The ability to enter a room and manipulate objects. An example would be taking legos build and make another object. Another example is in a Star Wars like game where using the Force with your hand motions actually felt like you had the force bending the games enviorment to your will. As a final example in an a FPG RPG being able to cast spells by using words or ...
When you are plying halo and walk into a room you can use your hand to point at objects. I dunno maybe use it to control the games menu system system to make it play more like a 3rd person game. I don't see them totally dropping the controller any time soon.
From those demos, the camera can detect finger gestures. It could probably allow the gamer to pick up and move objects in the game environment just by grabbing the air. If this was done in 3d it'd be a totally new experience....
They seem to be following the same path as the PS3 removing features and making it smaller (IE slim). In this case THEY increased the price to.
Having the disk for doing Netflix is a necessity. Apparently is OS firmware installs are limited by MS contracts. Unfortunately, using these disk places a lot of wear and tear on the blu-ray drives. I say this because mine started getting errors for Netflix.
Every time after a Movie or on load up it boots the drive again and runs it even though the data isn't being read. I started getting error 80029940 and it seems to be heat related in the blueray drive. DVD's CD's Blu-rays all...
More power
Second analog stick.
Motion control
Touch screen, (without pen item)
My biggest issue is the capacity of games and the lack of cartridges etc. Can't they just make ROMs like DS.
There should be a line near the top that says "never miss another deal" with a subscribe button beside it. Just put your e-mail in there and make sure to check your mail to move it to a non-spam folder.
This is the only company I like getting e-mail from because they have good deals and great service.
I signed up for the e-mail promos got a 500gb 7200rpm double platter internal laptop HDD with 16 magabytes cache for my ps3 for under $90 with free shipping.
Sadly, the weather hasn't allowed the UPS driver access and I haven't received it yet. This weather hasn't let up since Christmas. I still have stuff I bought before Christmas that I haven't received. Not neweggs fault though.

"it will be possible to import your old character from DAO, but there is also an option to start out as a Grey Warden"
UNLOCK our copy protected game saves. By the time is title is brought out chances are a lot of players won't have this option. It's all because the Dragon Age saves are copy protected.
So, if our system console needs replaced causing us to lose our saves how are we supposed to utilize this option. That's a loss of a few PO customers in my ...
I do hope that they devise a way to bypass the copy protected saves system. Piracy is one thing but when a company go's out of it's way to harm the honest customers who aren't cheating or pirating then they've gone to far.
Some might complain about cheaters others are pointing fingers at crackers. In all honesty, I think the developers should've taken better steps before locking down copy protected saves to the console. After all 128bit encryption and linking saves to the PSN ID ...
They also support copy protected saves. Basically if they stop the online support for these the games they're being disabled and losing functionality. EA also pushs for copy protected saves. Basically, when your games lose support or they shut down the servers the software loses it's functionality.
Gamers have become too accepting of these careless greedy practices. When you buy a product it should be self sufficient and not require the online components to function.

That's good to hear, I'm glad you responded. My comment towards you was a positive reinforcement that perceived value often relates to consumer complacency. I'm glad you've experienced the cost of components first hand engineering your own projects.
We both know that most components are very cheap. Even though they're cheap to us they're still inflated. Compared to the large production lines at a factory we still don't have the opportunity to compete with the bulk rates they rece...
