Anyone played Fester's Quest on NES? I think the labyrinths in the buildings were my first 3D experience. The lack of passwords made it frustrating, but overall it was a nice game.

I also liked the casual friendly games like Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros. Even my mom played those games.

In my opinion almost every game on the list is revolutionary and deserve their place on the list. Most of the titles you mentioned are great, but perhaps they are more evolutionary than revolutionary. For example, Super Mario Bros invented the whole platformer genre, to which Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy belong.

"Actually, this whole list is stupid. Some are franchises, some are single games/."

Usually the first game in a series of games has the same name as the whole franchise because the franchise is named after the first entry. Gran Turismo, The Sims, Donkey Kong (arcade) and Super Mario Bros. are all first games of the franchises they represent.

Usually games which are expensive to make, rely on tried-and-true gameplay formula. If innovation on the gameplay department doesn't succeed, and the game bombs salewise, it's a tough situation for a game company. Lair is a good example.

Low budget game makers can afford the risky way of innovating on gameplay mechanics. One good example is Zack & Wiki.

If Nintendo had made a more powerful console and sold it at price comparable to Xbox 360, casual gamers might not have created the craze that lead to the disproportion between demand and supply of Wii, which in turn lead to increased craze and long induring demand.

I might be wrong though. After all, Wiis were sold for prices comparable to PS3 at eBay in winter 2006/2007.

Nintendo has been a dictator in the past when it comes to games released on their platforms. Sometimes it was good, like the use of seal of quality in NES games, but sometimes it's not in favour of gamers.

However, I understand that hardcore Wii games tend to look pale when compared to games on PS3 and 360, even high budget ones. Devs need to innovate if they intend to make money on Wii.

Flash memory is so cheap at this day and age that it's really weird Nintendo put it only 512 MB to the Wii. I can get a 8 Gig flash memory stick for 12 euros, and that's the retail price! In mass production a 10 Gig flash would have cost Nintendo probably under 10 euros a piece, keeping Wii clearly profitable from the get go.

Flash is the way of the future, so I hope Nintendo releases a Wii with more flash memory at some point.

Great games on the Wii usually produce enough money to compensate the development costs, be it superb high-cost games like SMG or innovative low budget titles like Zack & Wiki.

Games on PS3 and Xbox 360 usually have to be graphics heavy in order to succeed, which makes them incredibly expensive to make, and that favors tried-and-true formula over more risky innovation (t.ex. Lair).

(Psst. have a bubble once again. I think nobody's watching)

Super Mario Galaxy and Super SMash Bros Brawl are hardcore games and they are two of the most critically acclaimed titles on the Wii so it kinda makes sense comparing them to hardcore games on PS3 and X360. To my understanding the only 360 or PS3 games that have sold more than SMG and SSBB are COD4 and Halo 3 (not counting combined sales on both platforms).

I've read that a typical PS3 game has to sell over million copies for it to break even with development costs, so Lair isn...

The highest rated two exclusive games on Wii, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros Brawl, have sold about ten million each.

Okami, Boom Blox and Xack&Wiki have sold at least million combined as of this point. It's not that bad considering the development costs. The same cannot be said for major flops on the expensive consoles like Lair.

The hardcore fan base of Nintendo isn't enough to keep them in the business. If Nintendo had made an expensive console similar to PS3 and Xbox360, the company would have failed. Three similar consoles cannot coexist because of the low numer of hardcore gamers and high costs in software developing.

It's foolish to blame Nintendo for doing the only thing it could do to succeed.

Here's a list of debunked arguments regarding the Wii so far:
-it will fail
-it's a fad
-it kills hardcore gaming
-it's the reason for Sony's hardships
-it doesn't have hardcore games
-it doesn't have 3rd party support
-it doesn't have 3rd party hardcore support

...and finally, this news will hopefully mark the end for the argument of low software sales.

What's next?

The Wii isn't hurting the industry. It expands it.

A large number of non-gamers have been interested in gaming for years, but most regard pad controls too complicated. That's why Buzz and Guitar Hero with their simple controls have been such a great success on PS2.

As long as there's demand for complicated games, they will be developed. Same goes for casual gaming. These two aren't dependant on the failure of other.

I would say Zack & Wiki, Super Mario Galaxy, Warioware and Boom Blox are innovative games.

Could you mention some recent innovative games on other platforms?

To my understanding the new Wii Motion Plus control add-on gets rid of the lag in response time.

If/when a proper 1:1 movement golf game is released on Wii, I will probably buy the console.

From the article: "the game will be played using a unique Wii control system"

As I have previously predicted, this game will probably be played with Wiimote + ControlPlus + Nunchuk, making 1:1 sword fighting possible.

I predict that this game will utilize the Wii Motion Plus peripheral and feature 1:1 sword fighting.

Sonic has always been about speed and precision, so the Wiimote with Wii Motion Plus seems to be the optimal controller for this game.

Graphics are nice and the gameplay is apparently great. This game will certainly show how lazy some developers like Ubisoft are in terms of pushing the hardware limits.

My only worry is that because the developers have said they intend to mimick many succesful games out there to make the definitive Wii FPS experience, the end result will be a soulless, run-of-the-mill "sci-fi" shooter. So far I haven't heard of any revolutionary features in the game, unless the All-Se...
