The real question is that do we really need 100% realistic graphics? As Lombardi said, "We've got really great-looking games but what we want are more intelligent, more visceral games"

Everyone would prefer a perfect looking game over a semi-perfect one, but the more resources are used on graphical improvement, the less resources are used to improve the content of the game. That's not healthy in the long run.

Why would anyone need simulated blood circulation or brain cells or nervous system in games? I can imagine almost 100% correct simulation of reality, but it would require decades of development and a computer that is millions of times more poweful than current supercomputers. And money, lots and lots of money. There isn't a game company on this Earth that would have the resources to do that, and even if there were, such a game would never produce profit.

If I remember correctly, Tezcatlipoca was resurrected, but it killed the bad guys. Or something like that.

I really enjoyed Broken Sword 1&2. Too bad there aren't many adventure puzzle games released these days.

I would perhaps add Donkey Kong Country, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Starfox Adventures, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Galaxy and Mega Man X after the top three.

Black is a pretty good example of the graphical level that could be seen on a Wii game. It's obvious that teams which are able to pull the best graphics concentrate on PS3 and Xbox 360, because Wii just isn't able to make you go WOW for graphical realism.

"if you consider those games hardcore then you my friend don't even know what hardcore it's."

Just what is hardcore then? Does it mean blood, gore and online multiplayer? By that definition Nintendo has never been hardcore.

I included games which I think are popular among avid Nintendo gamers in both the GC and Wii lists.

"nintendo changed when Iwata became the president of nintendo in the N64 era and from that point was when nintendo s...

Nintendo has released almost the same amount of core games for the Wii as it did for the Gamecube at the same point of it's lifetime. You can check the info from Wikipedia.

18 hardcore Gamecube games in 2001, 2002 and 2003 (excluding rehashes):

name said the following: "They're actually imrpoving on things instead of just saying "heres what we had last gen, but with pretty graphics". They're bringing something new, whether it's gears of war being the first next gen looking game..."

To quote your first sentence, isn't Gears of War pretty much just "last gen, but with pretty graphics"? I'd rather play a great looking game instead of an ugly game if the content is the same, but the obsession...

Donkey Kong Arcade, Duck Hunt, Mario Paint, Dr. Mario, Stack-Up... Nintendo has tried to appeal to as large audience as possible from the very beginning.

Nine of the ten levels listed in the site are made in a timespan of 1986-1998. Gamecube didn't have too many memorable gaming worlds, despite it being the least casual console of Nintendo. Games such as New Super Mario Bros, Metroid Prime 3, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Paper Mario fare quite well aga...

Online gaming not only adds lots of longevity to games but also brings in money to some game developers and console manufacturers. As console and game production costs skyrocket, online fees will be essential to keep hardcore game procuction alive.

Just noticed this article is almost a year old. Nevertheless, it's a great read.

There are so many parts that are friggin funny, like this:
"That's the exciting Star Wars finale, as played out on your home video game console. "It's just like living a movie! A plotless ten-hour movie edited by Michael Bay's retarded brother and running on a skipping DVD player!"

I don't play games too often anymore, because most of today's games are unimaginary, repetetive crap. However, when I play, I like to compete and I tend to take completing the game pretty seriously. One of the best games I have played recently is a flash game named Fantastic Contraption:
