To Jack Meahoffer: Junot Díaz clearly understands the potential of interactive entertainment. He's saying that there aren't games that "re-organize our preconceptions" and "shift us into a world that’s always been there but that we’ve been afraid to acknowledge" yet, but he also says that these kind of games are possible.

By making a clear distinction between playing and storytelling, you fail to realise that the gameplay interactions in interactive ent...

Instead of Gears of War I meant of course it's successor GeoW 2. (I'm unable to edit my post)

jtucker78: I pretty much agree with you on your points about restricting the hardware and it's effects. I also agree with you on Gears of War looking stunning. As an artist I highly appreciate good art direction.

I wouldn't even want to see a Wii version of GeoW because of the inevitable compromises that have to be made when downgrading an already existing HD game for Wii.

As for the graphics of The Conduit: they aren't uniformly poor, but rather range from great...

To jtucker78: What I meant with the unfruitful comparison was that if your argument "they [Nintendo] don't cater for me now" was based on a comparison between the games of console manufacturers, the examples aren't the best ones around, since COD4 isn't developed by neither Sony nor MS. If that's not the case and you are instead comparing Nintendo to all the other video game studios combined, including 3rd party studios, the comparison seems unfair. Considering the money moving in g...

To jtucker78: The fact that you supported Eternal Darkness is nice. So did I. It was a great game.

It's still important to understand Nintendo's point of view. The sales for the ED:SR, for example, were a huge disappointment. Nintendo has to make decisions based on overall sales, not on the enthusiasm of individuals.

I do not own a Wii because there aren't enough games (yet) on the console that would interest me. That, however, doesn't have anything to do with wh...

My thoughts exactly. Video game companies aren't powered by the sympathy of critics. They have to actually make money to survive.

The reason why Nintendo hasn't made new hardcore ips recently is because nobody hasn't been interested in them since the Gamecube era. No buyers, no money, no business.

How many of you have actually played Eternal Darkness? Or Geist? Or Pikmin?

Shame on you people.

If Nintendo had tried the hardcore way ...

"Come to think of it, why do so many Japanese games have white characters? Just to appeal to the American and European markets?"

Exactly. There are lots of other foreign developed games besides Japanese ones with characters intended to please the American and English audience. For example, Alan Wake is developed in Finland, and in case you didn't know, people here don't speak english as their native language.

It has been stated that this game deals with the origins of the virus, which also means it has something to do with Umbrella. Umbrella consists of scientists and other personnel (mostly guards) who are from the United States and are thus mostly white.

Umbrella could have brought some white monsters, like the ones seen in the new trailer, from the US to protect them from not only US intruders like Redfield, but the undoubtedly curious locals too. I believe the locals weren't inf...

If the game had art direction on par with RE4 (the best looking Wii/GC game), it would look pretty much like 360's launch titles, because the engine is better than in any GC or Wii game and near that of the 360's launch titles. Some of the tectures and colors in Conduit are horrible, like in this pic: http://wii.ign.com/dor/obje...
Some of the art design is better...

Nintendo has created new franchises like the Wii series (Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Music) recently. What are lacking though, at least at the moment, are new 'hardcore' IPs, or to be precise, franchises for devoted gamers aged T+. But then again, why would Nintendo try to create new hardcore IPs when they are proven to be unsuccesful?

When Playstation came into the scene, it stole away most of the Nintendo's consumers who had grown up and developed interest in more adult-orient...

Well, Wii is capable of terrain deforming. Doshin The Giant, as I mentioned, is a Gamecube game and features terrain deforming. Are there some features which are essential concerning the physical part of Fracture that have NOT been realized in some form in GC or Wii games?

What I meant in the earlier posts was that while it is a fact that Wii couldn't handle the same physics engine as the PS3/360 versions of Fracture, it doesn't necessarily mean that similar physical effects in...

I just realised that the term terraforming is not properly used, because it means "the hypothetical process of deliberately modifying its atmosphere, temperature, surface topography or ecology to be similar to those of Earth in order to make it habitable by humans" (Wikipedia) Is that the reason why I got one disagree?

Doshin The Giant (GC) or Fracture do not include terraforming, but they both include the feature of deforming terrain. Does someone disagree with me on...

Wii definitely couldn't handle Fracture with the level of graphics seen on PS3 and X360, but to say whether Wii is or isn't able to handle the main aspects of the physics of Fracture, would require extensive knowledge in programming, especially optimization. Even Gamecube had games with terraforming, like Doshin The Giant.

Bush is responsible for some 100,000 (one hundred thousand) civilian deaths in Iraq, including women, children, hospitalized people, doctors (hospitals were bombed) and policemen.

If Bin Laden is in the list with 3000+ deaths, then surely Bush should join the list.

The new trailer in 720p is nice:
http://static.capcom.com/re...

I don't mind Capcom giving little new information. The more surprises one gets while actually playing the game, the better. And for the new trailer they did everything correctly to stop the racism speculations:
1)they made clear that the people are under the influence of the parasites
2)there are also w...

Eternal Darkness was amazing game, and although it got rave reviews, the sales numbers were very low. That game along with many other Nintendo's Gamecube-era hc games that flopped, made Nintendo choose between dying away or going casual. I'm glad they went casual, because the other alternative would have sucked.

The casual strategy has made a lot of money for Nintendo, so maybe they invest some of the money in making new hardcore IPs for the Wii. After all, Shigeru has said tha...

I don't think the game itself will be racist, but the trailer can be misunderstood, because there wasn't any talk about Chris's objectives or the motives of the ganados-ish people. If there are good locals helping out Chris like Luis Sera in RE4, and the bad ones are aggressive because they are infected by the parasite, I see no racism in the game.

The 512 MB flash memory is way too small. I bet Nintendo could have put something like 5 GB of flash and still make profit with the Wii. Flash is the way to go though, as Macbook Air shows.

Wii Fit is not only about doing exercises, but also about getting advice, tutoring, encouragement and stats, which help people keep on doing more exercises. Also, the game includes minigames such as ski jumping and high wiring, which are not exercises everyone can just go and do outside.
