I don't see the price drop in Europe as anything more than a price drop on the base units. The big accessories like controllers, wireless adapters, and HDD all cost the same. Having the core SKU cost less than the Wii is really nothing more than a lure to make them buy a HDD later at full price. I suppose we'll know how well Europe has been fooled by next week.

Alright fair enough, but this is why the PS3 has more appeal for casual gamers and Wii-owners. It offers a complete next gen multimedia experience. Just like how the PS2 beat Dreamcast, though it was released a year earlier, thanks to DVD playback back then.
It's just color temperature, no one can say what it means until both versions comes out.

Well MS did buy/fund an entire JRPG studio and buy up a bunch of exclusives for this to happen.

If there is such a serious supply issue they should just move some of the unsold inventory from Europe to the US, like what Nintendo does with the Wii and DSL, instead of making price drops.
So casual gamers are people that either buy systems for non-gaming use and plays games once in awhile or just plays non-mainstream arcade games. I guess MS is trying to target the later; we'll know how well by next week.
The 360 still has about a million more users due to its early launch, but it's not going to last at this rate.

Sony is able to shrink the die size, reduce Blu Ray diode costs, and contract third party manufacturers without compromising quality and features (even the 40GB PS3 without PS2 BC has more features than the 360 Premium).
How can HDi and some of these other features be compatible with existing DVD players when most of them don't have flash memory or internet connectivity?
Besides, it's only holding the physical media market back with a capability no larger than DVD-9 with MPEG2 encoding. MS is probably doing this to generate some additional revenues and to hope it helps get more people to go along with DLC.
