I agree with most of what you are saying,but the reason for the disparity isn't just a difference in efficiency, but also the fact that most western companies release the exact same game over and over (dragon age is the same as mass efect, just as fallout is the same as elder scrolls) and leave bugs in to patch out later.

If that were the case, then Japanese gamers and companies would simply adopt all of the western made games and drop every domestic made game in the garbage. Which they haven't.

They already have COD equivalents, and they are all better designed games as well.
Furthermore, Alot of the "western advancements" in gaming have little to nothing to do with actual game design, and more to do with wringing out more and more cash from consumers.
The 3ds is doing just fine, and its situation is actually improving overall.
Nintendo would simply go bankrupt before being bought out. They have stated this before.

I don't like the whole graphics holdup the industry seems to be stuck on. But then again, I simply don't get it.
Take halo. I hate the graphics in halo 2. But most people still think they are an improvement over the original, which I do like, because of the upgraded tech.
The specs and power don't matter to me: only the end result. Which is why halo 1 looks "better" than halo 2, and why this new zelda looks better to me than skyrim, for example.
Sands of destruction(DS). Its main plot involves characters who want to destroy the world.
Although, I feel like you end up saving the world after all anyway. (I haven't finished it yet...)

Once the vita launches in Japan, the only must have game will be uncharted which requires an expensive memory card to play, increasing the price to nearly 26000 27000 yen without a game for the wifi.
Or you could get a 3ds with monster hunter plus an (optional) slide pad for about 22300 yen.
Buying an additional game would bring it to just above a gameless vita, with far more than 26~28 games to choose from.
