I have to disagree with you Snipster on this one. I usually enjoy your posts and admire your support of the best system this gen, the PS3...BUT this was too much. The only reason X360 has a lead is because it was out a year with no competition. PS3 had a great first year and has outsold X360 worldwide since 11/24/2007 EVERY WEEK and thus far for last week PS3 outsold X360 in "others" by 19k.

How has PS3 failed? Compare its first year sales (since its only been out just over a year) to that of the other consoles, only the Wii could claim victory at this point and its still way too early to be calling a winner.

Those are weekly sales, for Jan PS3 outsold X360 by 160k (included week ending 1/05 which had a few holiday sales tacked in) roughly WW and if they should manage to stay at the 44k advantage they enjoyed this past week they will hit 176k more sold for this month. The last time X360 outsold PS3 WW was 11/24, just a random thought.

X360 has been out a YEAR longer, if they weren't ahead it would be sad to say the least. Sales for 2007, PS3 had more than X360. Sales currently and for the past 2+ months PS3 is outselling X360 WW (oh yeah by over 40k this past week). Recent articles from gaming industry analysts and some developers (even EA oddly) stating 2008 is going to be PS3's year. The only reason X360 is ahead right now is because it game out a year earlier with no competition.
PS3 will not have a 5 year life, it will have 7-8 at the least. Technology isn't always what sells a system (points to Wii), but even with the knowledge that technology is increasing rapidly Sony built the PS3 pretty future proof, or at least as much as a system can be. I loved hearing people say that PS2 wouldn't last for more than 5 years, wow how wrong were they.

Its a tad early to be declaring Sony lost a large chunk of market share when X360 lifetime sales are not at Xbox orginal yet, once they pass that then they took some market share from someone. Wii is taking some share from both X360 and PS3 at this point would be a more accurate statement.

Game selection is fine and growing fast, game quality equals and surpasses the competition when the developers aren't lazy (Ratchet, Uncharted, Resistance, etc). A computer is fine I grant you, obviously we all have one but its not a console. So using the tag line of "still waiting" as if its a slam is your fault not Sony's.
