The 80Gb IS going to have the same BC it had before the new bundle, what is being deactivated? Also, they have said they CAN make the 40Gb BC with software emulation it would just take a bit of work, they are focusing on a few other issues right now. It was retailers. Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Gamestop ALL said the 80Gb SKU had been discontinued and they couldn't order any more. The failure on their part was that BUNDLE SKU was being discontinued and the new bundle will have a "new" SKU. So the retailers added to the fire.
I was hoping you would show up after you stated it as a FACT that upcoming PS3's would not have BC, yet WHOA here it is. As to your LAME comment about some SKU's having partial, some full, etc. its a known fact (and has been since the 40Gb came out) that 40Gb isn't currently BC, whereas 60Gb is full BC since it has the actual hardware, and 80Gb has software emulation and thus is partial (which is between 60-75%). 2008 has a LONG way to go before we decide who wins it. As of now at least, PS3 has been outselling X360 worldwide for...oh yeah the entire year (2 months so far). I think both lineups are good.
