I don't know why either, but I do know Sony runs dedicated servers on both those games. Perhaps financially it isn't a good idea for them.

What does the 'Stream' button do on the front? Say it's not fake..

I really wish Sony and MS would get together and make a version that's like $10 more, but you get both PS3 and 360 versions, that way both platform holders are compensated and we aren't stuck choosing between versions. kind of like Portal 2 in a way on PS3 and PC. This would be a big deal to me on Call of Duty as well, cause I have friends on both consoles that play that game.

Maybe make one of those dual bluray/dvd disks they talked about having in the early days of...

Well it depends, if you're selling hardware at a loss with the prospect of software sales making up that money - you won't be around very long if you leave the gate to piracy wide open and easy to do. It's kind of an implied rule that they're giving you this hardware at a discount, as long as you buy your software legitimately. It's hard to call them greedy in that sense - they have to recoup their investment.

If you sell at a profit from the hardware (i...

I'm impressed at the number of 'off topic' hidden comments here. I fear we have a Kotaku sympathizer as a mod at N4G abusing his/her power.
Let the truth play out, let us hold these places accountable for journalistic integrity - that's how it's supposed to work. Silencing us is not a good practice, their posts make sense to me about how that relates to this story.

I know this post will probably be removed in the same fashion.

I'm not sure if this works at denying them a hit; but it should. You can use Yahoo and sometimes Google to view a cached copy of the page - that way you wouldn't be giving them a hit. Just search the title and Kotaku then in the search results after the url there usually is a 'cached' version.

For instance I was able to find this article by doing that, Google didn't give me a cached version, but Yahoo did.

While some of kotaku's original stories are fairly good, most of they time when they're reporting news they do a poor job of citing sources.

Kotaku isn't alone, this kind of thing is going on all over the media. I don't know if it's from a lack of funding or what. On a side note I do respect the fact Kotaku doesn't attend review events anymore (Atleast they said they don't)It seems no one else is taking that step.

That is likely, but it's also possible some of those 'Anonymous' followers are DDoSing Sony's servers to try to take them down. Taking Sony's servers down for a few minutes to an hour is as far as they ever got before someone actually broke in.

I agree with your points, Joe's points are as unfounded as Edges - yet the vast majority of the media went ahead with the story anyway and downplayed the fact it was from Europe. The problem is Edge's story gets much more press than Joe's.

I will admit my connection to the Edge being in on a conspiracy (knowingly or unknowingly) is light, the connection I made was using unnamed sources so we can't determine the motive - as well as the % figures. By that stance...

Nintendo's going to have a problem adjusting to HD development. It took some of Sony's in house developers almost 5 years to get up to speed; so I doubt there will be much from Nintendo till 'cafe' hits. They also have to develop for 3DS, which hasn't seen much from N.

What really bugs me is all the diamonds/points and quirky sounds that come with it - that doesn't belong in survival horror, just takes me out of the experience.

Common Practice? If you're talking about review events, no it's not; only select publisher's that choose to engage in this manipulative tactic. It's becoming more so though now.

Common practice doesn't make something acceptable. I applaud them for writing a blog detailing it that is a good step in the right direction, it is actually an unprecedented step. But somehow that clears them from the fact they accepted paid trips/meals/ect.?

Here's a link that proves my point http://www.ign.com/blogs/ar...

IGN accepts paid review events and junkets from publishers. By my standards, that is corruption - as a journalist you are not supposed to accept gifts or payment of any kind. (Especially from the company's products you are reviewing) Sure they can argue they have to take these trips to get the news first and get their reviews in time to be relevant, but they still they are taking part in impropriety.

They can pay for this stuff themselves, but they don't. (Kotaku no ...

@Winter47th

I'm a fan of Hans Zimmer, but I don't think his scores really fit in with such a soulless uninspired story in a game. Sad music doesn't go with a game that puts you in the role of a soldier killing thousands of people.

The original Silent hill team had that extra artistic element they applied to their games, they knew how to do it and make their games original. This is being made from a 3rd party and really has very little chance at being anything but a cash-in from Konami, no doubt to me that Konami will rush it and low-budget it. Something they'd never do if it was being made by their internal studios.

I hope Konami redoes the old games in HD - I'd definitely pick a Silent Hill ...

It's actually what happens when you make a bad bet taking payments from MS (Infinite Undiscovery, Star Ocean, Last remnant, scrapped towns in FFXIII) to unknowingly sabotage the console you sell the most to in Japan. After MS is no longer giving out handouts you're forced to publish on the portable market that only allows you to sell to a primarily Japanese market. They got played.

"One of the most respected gaming publications in the entire world."(that uses un-cited sources as news)

Regardless of the 'respect' they have from the gaming media and industry - you are never credible if you don't cite your sources.

5419d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

You're jumping to conclusions, we don't know what the authors intent was, but having original stories and bringing hit's to the site is usually in their best interest. The article is about rebutting the claim by 'unnamed sources' Edge used to quote its sources on a previous article that was picked up by most of the major gaming media. He makes a great point, follows it up with his own investigative journalism - it's sad we don't see this kind of action done more ...

@RBlaze

The thing is you don't have to read an 'edge' article to become a victim of media manipulation. EDGE is cited as a source in Most Tech sites ranging from Kotaku, Cnet, ZD, ars technica.. ect ect. ect. So Edge actually has a broad reaching power in this regard.
