I really don't get people's attachment to the Vita - it's pure nostalgia given that it didn't sell that well, and not at all practical. I loved my Vita back in the day as a smart successor to the PSP, but that was then. Now, I can't imagine the logic of having your development teams pour resources into making watered down versions of your big franchises when you can just play the exact same game on the go via Streaming. There's no need for a Vita library anymore, it...

Unfortunately there's too much variation in this to take this article at face value. I have a TP link wifi6 router and a TP extender and one mesh network that covers my entire house and my remote play experience is near flawless on 5Ghz. I almost never have issues.

It could be that they're connecting to 2.4hGz connections, have troublesome signal spots, interference, or didn't optimise remote play on their phones before jumping into the Portal.

Actually what's bad for gaming is seeing DLCs turned into full priced games, but by all means carry on.

And I'm not talking about the scale of the game or number of hours. But you can see when a short story was bloated into a full movie just like you can see when a DLC was bloated into a full game.

The warp kill was more stolen from Middle Earth the way it looked. But it also killed my buzz for the game, because I wanted a slow, grounded realistic type game like the original. They should just remake it at this point with AC Unity level art direction and that same Jesper Kyd soundtrack and I'd throw my money down!

I see "wait for E3" has become "wait for Microsoft's publisher acquisitions to deliver"

@VariantAEC Thanks a mil for the common sense displayed in your comment in response to oIMyersIo. The entire Portal screen is designed for gaming, whereas your phone is not. I will reiterate again: just because you can remote play in a dozen other ways, does not make it a great experience.

@specialguest Your comment certainly is special. I would rather play in the comfort of my bedroom than stick a 32" TV somewhere I don't want one. Same goes for using my PC screen...

I'd like it if you brought the Portal to South Africa so that I can buy it immediately :(

This is great news though and exactly what the Portal will need to give it longevity and value.

IT'S
NOT
A
CONSOLE

It's an accessory for fudge sake. And maybe it's doing well because it does exactly what it was advertised to do and does it well. You can remote play on a Tamagotchi, doesn't make it a good experience.

The only people shocked by this are those who never read the product page of the device to see who it's for.

Um, I have a Backbone PlayStation Edition and while it's a fantastic device, playing on a tiny phone screen is not ideal and it's no DualSense which remains the best controller I've ever used. I use my Backbone to clear side missions and tasks, but I refuse to experience epics like Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy 16 on a small screen like this, so I limit what I do in-game. I'm definitely getting a Portal when it's available in my country because I share a TV with a wife an...

The Switch is amazing because its exclusives rule and it's an incredibly designed console. Not because you can play watered down versions of Doom or The Witcher or Batman, which was impressive 7 years ago but has long been beat by handheld PCs that simply scale down, not dilute, and by the growing popularity of remote play and streaming.

At what point are you just doing a disservice to the game by playing it in such a state.

I can't fathom the idiocy of the writing around this device when Sony stated on their product page, blog and all marketing EXACTLY who this device was for. It was never said to be a mass market device or for everyone. It serves a second screen function. That's it.

From the PS Blog:
"PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of th...

You know it's actually funny. The media spent months bashing this thing for not being another Steamdeck or the Vita 2 and for just being exactly what it said it would be in every single promo and product description - a remote play accessory device, and now the reviews are saying it's the perfect companion device and accessory which is literally what those of us who were excited for it wanted it for.

So I guess the media finally caught up that it's an accessory ...

I'll be the first one to bash Microsoft but you're way off here. They had nothing to do with this shit hole of a game and this was all Activision. I wouldn't be surprised if they phoned it in to cash in before the merger so they could maximise the payout.

I've also never been a hater of Call of Duty as some of the recent games have been genuinely great, but this is one of the worst and most cynical things I've seen the industry produce and it's right...

Not really understanding your comment as you're still logged in while in Rest Mode and able to download updates, charge controllers, use PS App and wake up your PS5 with remote play. So the Portal absolutely can wake your PS5 up from Rest Mode. It means you just have to be signed into your PS Account, which most human beings are.

I'm worried about this game. The original Last of Us multiplayer was surprisingly good and suspenseful, something different, but this game has been silent for so long I'm baffled as to what the problem is. They already have the template, it's not like factions needs to go back to the drawing board.

I agree, it had plenty of high quality stand-out moments. Clean House from Modern Warfare is one of the best missions the series has ever crafted, and the return of the Gillie suit in Modern Warfare 2 was a great throwback to a classic mission that didn't at all feel cheap or gimmicky, like the "No Russian" in this pile of crap felt like in the teaser footage. Why they had the brainless idea to hand over development for the final installment to Sledgehammer is beyond me, but not...

I'm not going to lie, I actually enjoyed Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2, they felt like the classic CoD package of getting a blockbuster campaign and an addictive multiplayer. But this, is just plain pathetic. People had the audacity to bash Miles Morales for being a DLC-turned game, which I vehemently disagreed with, but this is exactly that. To charge full price for this is an abomination to gaming and should be boycotted...if it was possible to boycott Call of Duty. This will set ...

Delusional, blind fanboys like yourself will always use the false equivalence of trying to compare acquiring studios to acquiring publishers. But I'll exercise my own delusion in trying to get you to understand the following basic concept:

Sony acquires Insomniac and invests in them, Insomniac grows into one of the best developers in the industry right now with cutting edge tech, Sony's biggest IP in Spider-Man and more developers, more jobs, more games. Net win. In...
