Final Fantasy 16 had an incredible demo that sold me and made me buy it day one. I've downloaded the Stellar Blade demo and can't wait to play. Anyone who makes a good product should have nothing to worry about with releasing a good demo.
That's awesome to hear, I'm super hyped as I'm getting sucked into FF7 - first time playing it actually. Not sure what the people who disagreed with me, disagree with exactly haha.
Exactly, and I'll keep repeating the reasons these triple A games fail:
- Oversized budgets for unrealistic sales expectations
- Over staffed (I mean, did you read the instances of development chaos of Starfield due to the size of the team?)
- Bloat in game design
- Delays due to failure to meet targets
- Trying to make every game a franchise or have mass appeal thus over extending on advertising and marketing
- Succumbing to...
It's a great time for me. I absolutely loved Final Fantasy 16 and I'm only now getting stuck into Final Fantasy VII Remake. I'm glad I waited because I'm enjoying all the PS5 enhancements and additional gaming time on my Portal, and Rebirth is there when I'm done.
I'm becoming sick of this bullshit narrative that Microsoft and now this guy is trying to push. Michael Pachter is and has always been a hack whose predictions and opinions are so far out of reality that I don't know why he's in the gaming business at all. The ONLY reasons triple A games fail is because of bloated budgets, excessive staff, expanding beyond what the IP can realistically sell, failing to understand target audience or alienating them, over spending on advertising and...
@Lightning77 You're so right, player count and how many players beat a game, especially on a subscription service, is a redundant metric. However unlike Starfield, Balders Gate 3 can boast very high sales and exceptional critical performance. Once someone buys a game, it's irrelevant what they do with it thereafter. As long as it's not a refund, the sale is made and the developer gets theirs. With Games Pass, playing for 10 minutes and deleting may make you part of the "playe...
@mrcatastropheAF Hate to break it to you buddy but Starfield certainly didn't sell many millions on Steam, there are no sales stats available and some estimates put it at 2.5 million copies sold in total across all platforms, which pales compares to previous Bethesda games. Not to mention its active Steam player count, meaning people currently playing the game, has dwindled to numbers less than games like Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, heck even Batman Arkham Knight still has half the ...
@Zeref The point is somewhere across the globe where you missed it. Sales and good critical performance means we get more and better, the developer is likely to grow. Player count in a single player game that is available on a subscription service is utterly meaningless without knowing the criteria, because playing for 10 minutes or a couple of hours and deleting the game can make you part of player count for all I know.
No, gamers aren't. For Hollywood, the fashion industry and literally everywhere else, it continues.
What the heck are people carrying on about this for? Bayonetta, Tomb Raider, Dead or Alive, Street Fighter, Eve from Metal Gear Solid 3, God of War, Devil May Cry...the list goes on. When did sexuality become a crime? I guess it's only fine when HBO does it.
You mean games people actually had to buy or that are exclusive to one platform? As opposed to being available on Games Pass to all PC and Xbox players, with extraordinary levels of hype and marketing behind it? Yeah, "interesting", but sadly "player count" may even entail sitting on the main menu for five minutes, as I'm sure it's all those who booted the game. I mean, I played Need for Speed Unbound for 10 minutes on PS Extra, I guess I'm part of the "pl...
So says the company responsible for one of the biggest flops of the year. This is a pathetic attempt to push an agenda to justify GAAS and mobile monetisation in triple A games. Do you think we're stupid? No one asked you to balloon your development costs by over hiring and expanding and over estimating sales and budgets, failing to meet targets, developing trash games like Suicide Squad that have to be delayed and take 6 years to release because of poor reception, creating mediocrity lik...
@darth72 What you and Observer fail to grasp is the development starting point. With a PS5 Pro, all games would be developed for the base PS5 as intended, and then enhanced for the Pro. The benchmark is the PS5 console. The PS5 is mandatory, the Pro is not.
With the Xbox Series S and X, the benchmark is ALWAYS going to be the INFERIOR console from the getgo, the Series S is mandatory. The Xbox X is supposed to be the base model of the generation, but thanks to the S it'...
Yes the PSP was amazing for its time, one of the coolest handhelds ever, but the nostalgia bait needs to end. The Switch changed the handheld gaming landscape, and proved why the Vita failed. No one wants to play watered down, lite-triple A experiences on handhelds and pay a premium price for them. It isn't worth the development costs to dedicate games to a handheld and split your focus. People want to play the same games on their consoles that they play on the go. This was already proven...
There's a difference between running and running the way the developer intended. Batman Arkham Knight and Mortal Kombat 1 "run" on the Nintendo Switch, but clearly at a cost. Ratchet and Clank runs on Steamdeck, but you're outputting at 720fps with reduced image quality and no raytracing. So it's impressive, absolutely, but don't sit there and act like it's 1 to 1 parity just because you can't grasp how the Series S holds back the generation. Hint: the Series...
I really think developers should optimise for 40fps fidelity options. Insomniac are really technical wizards and despite preferring 60fps in every single game I played, Spider-Man 2 was the first game where I actually settled on the 40fps option with VRR and 120hz as the best of all worlds.
Closer to topic though, I don't understand how this game couldn't have a performance mode. I mean, it's not the PS3 and 360 era where they can sell this "it's more c...
What's the point of this comment from the CEO without a screenshot of the game in progress or announcement of a trailer? It's been a long time since the announcement and absolutely nothing to show for it which is not a good sign.
I was beyond hyped when this was announced, but I've long accepted the reality that it's not going to happen, unless something concrete is shown.
Compare this to Delta Snake Eater which has more than shown its exi...
When I saw the combination of BioWare and Ubisoft I expected very little, but I must say that this genuinely looks cool in spite of its obvious inspirations. Wishlisted it to see how it goes.
@Pete Woah, hold the phone. Did you just accuse me of not reading the article and then you totally failed to read my comment? Good one. I gave a clear set of simplified answers as to why there are so many lay offs happening, it's a net effect of capitalism, I won't rehash it since it's a small paragraph you can just read.
I did actually read the article, and my comment is based on A) the above commenter lumping MS into the group of those having trouble and B) th...
The demo was AWESOME. Ridiculous that the discourse is about Eve's appearance when the game is so damn good to play and experience, with a bonus of a great soundtrack and fantastic haptick feedback on the DualSense. In my view the character designs suit the strange and grotesque world. If the reviews land decently enough I'll totally buy this game, think it's going to be another winner for the PS5 and hopefully the hit of the year.
