There are plenty of PS1 games on PSN as a whole. The only issue is that there isn't any consistency between regions--Japan is the only region that gets RE 2, for example. If Sony can get some sort of parity between regions and convince publishers to come on board, it'll be a great thing for the service.

But there are other issues to think about besides getting publishers on board. Especially if you're looking to make them playable on the PSP. The most obvious is the size of the ...

That's exactly what they are trying to do--run and gun, I mean--and they want the controls to reflect that play style. But the game and the enemy AI isn't going to be kind to those that try it. You have to be patient and you HAVE to use cover or you will die quickly and often. Which is why the controls fit.

Even one of the more valid complaints--the trying to use zoom while in cover--isn't even that big a deal. Trying to line up a shot is tough, not because of the controls, but b...

What about the VATS system in Fallout 3, Mr. "Violence for the sake of Violence is Bad"?

I mean, that system is specifically designed to show you gruesome deaths from the various weapons in the game (and to compensate for the poor FPS mechanic). The developers were even PROUD of the fact you could make heads explode and showcased it every chance they got.

Yet NOT ONE WORD about it being unnecessary or over the top. And NOT ONE article from concerned citize...

You have a well thought out post, but I'm going to disagree with a few things:

1. Violence is ok, but shouldn't be the focus? I'm sorry, but EVERY game of the FPS and TPS genre has violence as the focus. You can try to justify it by saying, "well it's in the context of the story" but so is the reasoning behind it in GOW. Even in other games in the "hack and slash" genre--like Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Blade, and Shinobi--it's kinda implied as to WHAT you're suppose...

And I read the story as well as comments, too. They are as short-sighted and as pointless as your comment.

Saying something is "violent for the sake of violent" is absurd, especially when talking about GOW. In GOW, it's within the context of WHO Kratos is and what he's been through--both as a soldier and as the God of War. Now, if the game was called "God of Peace and Good-feelings" and Kratos still went around decapitating and killing people, THEN the violenc...

I've seen a couple of different Halo Wars commercial and none of them reflect that the game is an RTS.

In fact, one of them even makes the game look like a third-person shooter--the one that shows a soldier shooting a machine gun from the back of a jeep as it weaves between debris.

Instead, it's a lot of great-looking pre-rendered footage that shows insane fighting. But none of it shows actual RTS gameplay.

haha. True

But in MGS 4, you could probably get a trophy for crotch grabbing/ knocking out a certain number of enemies.

Or taking "sexy" pics of the BB Corp.

Don't you take down a Gecko with the MK.3 in the Shadow Moses level by plugging into the burned out circuit box to power up the electric floor?

Or does it just stun it?

I played through the game 3 times but I've held off going for the Big Boss award until trophies are released. I would happily play through it several more times to get those trophies--probably one of the few games I'd do that for.

@Jolly

Well for starters, the campaign isn't 5 hours.

I've been playing since yesterday on Veteran and I hit that mark this morning.

To give a game time frame, I still haven't gotten the Salamun Ribbon.

"Microsoft games do sell more than Sony’s and Microsoft game servers for the most part are working perfectly fine, with no patches to take out any features or anything."

So I didn't imagine the weeks of LIVE being down at various points after certain big name games were released?

I would kinda put the crashing of MS' lauded online above a blogger's sanctimonious (and suspicious) rant against GG removing bots in terms of a company "screwing up".

Or bundling Halo Wars as part of the "Best of Halo" pack--or whatever they are calling it--with Halo 3.

Plus, the size of the country makes it easier to get data faster.

You'd be able to know the exact number of stores that received the game and how many copies were sent to each store with a greater degree of accuracy and speed than say, getting those same figures in Germany.

Also, considering the entire install base in the country is at or around 70K, selling 30K is something Sony would brag about--especially since game prices are ridiculous there. Simply put, it show...

The three Gamestops in my immediate area were sold out. I went to each one starting about 1pm today (at the cost of my lunch time) and was told we sold out about an hour after opening. I finally got a copy at Best Buy but it makes me wonder how many copies they got?

I figured, "hey, I don't need to pre-order. I live in a large city, I'm sure I can find a copy." Lesson learned.

Sony will be fine. As a Japanese company, they survived that country's economic downturn in the 90s and, restructuring in this way is a good sign that they are at least staying a float. It would be a different story if they were slashing some of their major divisions.

It's not a shell of it's former self but just a reflection of the consumer electronics industry as a whole.

Wow..just..wow.

1. Three years in huh?

Nov 2006-Nov 2007 = 1 year
Nov 2007-Nov 2008 = 1 year
Nov 2008-Feb 2009 = 3 months

= 2 years and 3 months.

2. FF XIII is an exclusive in Japan and will be for at least 6 months until the NA/EU 360 and PS3 versions release.

3. "Where are your J-RPG's, Sony? You were so hot back in your PS2 years."

no no, the "PS3 is doomed" articles are only in response to US numbers.

When the 360 outsells the PS3 in Japan, the headlines are

"The 360 turning the tides in Japan" or
"Is the 360 destined to overtake the PS3 in Japan?"

Where each is followed by an "analysis" of HOW this will be a constant trend going forward--seemingly ignoring all the other times it outsold the PS3 then dropped back down-...

can't wait until tomorrow.

I finally got to play the demo today (I didn't pre-order...I know, I'm a dumba**) and I don't know if I can sleep tonight. Everything was so tight, from gameplay to graphics.

I wish I had pre-ordered it (to have gotten to play the demo sooner) and I REALLY wish my local Gamestop was doing a midnight launch.

I don't know why people refuse to see the facts:

1. At 2 years into the life-cycle - the PS2 was at 18 million units
2. At 2 years into the life-cycle - the PS3 IS AT 21.3 million units

Hmmm..

Is selling more than your highly successful predecessor at the same point in time (and at a higher price point) considered a failure?
