Can't agree with that. Aside from graphics, shooters are more interactive (from environments to NPCs) than they were ten years ago, and they tend to carry heftier stories. Weapon mechanics are vastly improved (compare even UT2k4 with games like Resistance and you'll see better variety) and the tunnel effect in shooters is starting to dissipate.

I think the only part of the game that clashes are the Mantel soldiers themselves. The neon orange/green seems too distant.

Yeah, I'm certainly not saying that everything in the FPS genre is great, but Halo was one of the first console FPSs to prove how viable the genre is for non-PC gamers. I've never really been enamored of the series, but it's hard to deny the vast impact it's made on the course of the industry.

If Halo hadn't become so ridiculously successful, it's possible that the industry wouldn't have started exploring the genre as much as it has. I guess Halo is good for something ;)

I'm gonna be attending that session hosted by Sony on Home content. Can't wait to get a peek.

This whole "gamers are still kids" issue has become really popular recently, and there's really no reason for it to continue. It's been seen as a child's hobby for too long, considering how many of those "kids" are now grown and bringing their own children into the hobby. Media needs to take off the blinders and get with reality.

Sounds about right. It had all the usual elements, but I'm not sensing any character. Visuals could use some more spit-polish, tool.

Sure, if you wanna consider minigame collections to be original IP. I sure as hell don't, but to each his own. Those games don't sell millions because they're good games: they sell millions because the new market doesn't know any better. Nintendo has been smart to capitalize on that, but the sooner people wise up to the crap that's been put out recently, the sooner we can get back to making good games.

I suppose, but it's really rare that anyone gives out anything solid unless it's in an official announcement. That includes Peter Moore.

I think that's the biggest flaw with XBL: they charge for the one thing that should be free. They're doing the right thing in charging for premium content, like movies and downloadable titles, but online play? They could do just fine by adjusting their model to offer more to Gold members (more free content? exclusive content to Gold members? offer demos to Gold before Silver?) and take online play from the table.

Until Sony's online steps up a bit more, Microsoft really has n...

He didn't bash either the PS3 or the Wii in the interview... in fact, he complimented Sony on being a strong competitor. He's been a little rough on them in the past, agreed, but honestly, that kind of talk has been snapping back at those who say it. In that regard, Sony seems to have the best policy: talk as little about your competitors as possible.

Now, if they could only stick to that ;)

Home, as far as been shown, is simply a 3d interface for the same stuff that Live does. It just includes a social networking level that strays from the Live platform. You're not required to walk around to get everywhere, since an in-program menu allows you to skip from place to place as though it were just a menu.

Simply put, Home looks better than Live, but doesn't use the same menu navigation. We'll see how people react, but I'd be really surprised if it flopped.

He's right in that Xbox Live is in the perfect position to explode financially. The sooner they get a solid digital distribution framework laid, the more money they can make.

Agreed, though compared to other demos out recently, it was pretty light on content. Can't complain much, since I enjoyed myself.

I really doubt the 360 is anywhere near tapped, but after so long of people ripping apart the PS3 for being substandard against the 360, people are gonna backlash a bit.

This title has lots of it, I hope it catches on with the mainstream. Too bad the guy couldn't give out any info on their next project... stupid NDAs.

Sounds like someone hasn't played Resistance.
