Well, Sony can now claim this to be a 8.4 Tflops console...

But Tflops does nothing! Yet a number like that is almost the only thing we got from Microsoft...

Standardization will play a big role too.
One VR-kit, one or two HW platforms
Avoiding the fragmentation of PC
- all having different CPUs, GPUs, Memory, disks, ... VR sets of different brands and generation
- no one will try with an underspecified computer and claim "it mostly plays great, but it is not really well optimized"
Make it work great for those two configurations and it will work great for all!

I am not at all sure that any prototype at this time is with actual SoC.
Actually, I have not seen any real reference that any developer has even tried a prototype.
Bethesta you say... do you have any link?

It is quite easy to put a "prototype" together that has CPUs and GPU of targeted performance. But try to find one with shared GDDR[x] memory - PS4 Pro is the closest...

At time of announcement, E3 2016, I do not think there existed anything IRL.
To me it looked like CGI from electronic layout program...

So, YES

But... they have already talked about power.

GPU 12 TF
Memory 320 GB/s

Those are very specific numbers console makers usually do not talk about at all!
Where and when did Microsoft tell us about XBox One S corresponding numbers?

Sony only confirmed the existence of an improved PS4 before E3, and have to my knowledge not talked about flops nor memory bandwidth...

Won't it be rather difficult to d...

Ask yourself. What did Microsoft talk about? What did Microsoft show? How did developers react?

True 4k gaming
High fidelity VR

Innovation
Latest technology

They should have released with fewer arenas, fewer players.
We do not need more than one arena or one player - clones are OK.
Why should there be chanting sounds, so unnecessary!

No one cares about looks anyway...

Really, what is wrong with you? Too much content?

Kids know... like my son... asked me about Scorpio.

MOST POWERFUL CONSOLE EVER

(But not before it releases and only until PS5 - MS better release in time)

Another thing... price... people expect this to release at PS4 price level, we will see about that.
* 6 TF
* 4k Blue-Ray
* "native" 4k rendering
* 12 GB higher bandwidth memory

PS
I wonder if not MS is sweating ab...

What will the next media transition be? Aren't we already there? Streaming away...

It will really be interesting to see if Scorpio WILL release with a 4k Blu-ray player...
(I bet they will want to keep their prices down)

@thisgamer503 it is not the same
"The Windows 10 version of Quantum Break uses the same reconstruction method as on Xbox One. If your resolution is set to 1080p, the game temporally reconstructs the image (except UI) from four 720p buffers rendered with 4xMSAA, just like on Xbox One. Engine assigns input geometry samples from 4xMSAA rendering into shaded clusters in order to maximize covered geometry while keeping the performance on acceptable level by reducing expensive shaded ...

If you program the PS4 correctly CPU won't be an issue. PS4 has shifted focus - it is the GPU who is the first class citizen the CPU should only be used for things the GPU can NOT do.
GPU can be self feeding - all physics, low level AI...
GPU is bad at handling User input, Network, Disk. That kind of things are to be handled by CPU like an IO processor...

Checkerboard rendering is a really interesting technique.

When filling in the blanks you have native rendered pixels in close proximity in most directions.
Process of filling in the blanks will resemble the Bayer mosaic processing your digital camera does

"Forza Horizon 3 has almost eliminated any reason you might have to want or need to buy any of the other driving games out there for a long, long time. Do you like booking it through a forest in your Lamborghini in Need for Speed?"

Sounds like Need for Speed Rivals? (a release game for XBox One)

Actually I do not think the CPU is a problem at the moment. The problem right now is to learn howto use the PS4 architecture - no it is not a PC!

PS4, and PS4 Pro, is really a GPU with an added CPU to handle those tasks that the GPU does not handle well.

So here you have a new open world game... what parts of the game do you want to run on CPU?
- User input processing, yes probably
- Network input, yea
- Physics? No, better calc...

Do not understand what you want.

If you could kill a tank with your pistol, would that please you?

The reason they were built was to be powerful and dominate the battlefield!
Then other built ways to kill them anyway, like anti tank grenade - use that!
But you need someone to help you by doing the same (at approximately the same time
- or to keep the pressure on with damage to prevent self repair).

Bought my PS3 for Blu-ray first, and game second. But have not bought a Blu-Ray in months.
And the last I bought was on sale and I have not even watched it. (American Sniper)
