Architectures are quite the same, especially the case "More of the same" should be easily handled.
The OS (BSD Unix) should take care of most differences. Could start game in compatibility mode with matching resources (no of CPUs, ...)

SATA III would not give any problems as long as developers won't use those for testing (Fallout 4 on XBox run acceptable on external USB3 but not internal HD - probably most testing done using USB3 disks...)

Things to fix, without breaking things...

Guess DICE could begin selling that navigation system as a commercial product! Would be really cool with AR glasses!

What is a standard 720p game? Battlefront (@ 60Hz)?

Please give examples...

A more expensive or less capable console again...

I am pretty sure Microsoft chip designers are sitting there hating the ESRAM...

That is not entirely true...

We got several multimedia games released around 2000-2005 that I just can not get to work on recent Windows.

I wonder if the Sony talk about an upgraded PS4 isn't directed against Microsoft. "We are ready, you release an upgraded Xbox we do release an upgraded PS4"

PS4 is simpler in design (high speed external memory instead of ESRAM)

Microsoft
ESRAM -> to keep backward compatibility there are only two choices
- keep the size (and go GDDR5/HBM reducing its use...)
- make it significant bigger (new chip geometry)

720p @ 60 Hz

So you prefer 1080p @ 30Hz to 720p @ 60Hz?

Battlefront is built using Frostbite 3, also used in Battlefield. Battlefield was the first game using Mantle (now erupted as Vulkan).

If anyone is using FULL DX12 it is DICE...

I am pretty sure all new low level APIs have evolved together with Frostbite.
- Has been optimized for low level APIs on PS3/XBox360/PS4/XBoxOne
- Battlefield was the first game on Mantle (PC)
- Mantle evolved (erupted) into Vulkan
- DX12 have API descriptions that are word for word from Mantle.

Can't be anything exclusive for PS4. PC and XBox One users have paid for the same packages.

ILMxLAB has been working with something like Star Wars Experience, it has also been rumoured that they use Frostbite.

That is also the reason for DX12 / Vulkan

MUCH simpler drivers, just exposing the hardware.
Application(Game) is responsible for optimizations...

There will be no need to find the fastest compatible interpretation of every DX11 major game...

Driver teams will still work on optimizing DX11/OpenGL for year to come...

@ABizzel1 do not forget the biggest (in number of GPUs installed) manufacturer - Intel.

In every recent Intel CPU there is a Vulkan capable GPU sitting idle... (those running serious 3D apps have a plugin GPU, those who don't probably only use 2D)

With DX12(?) and Vulkan(!) you can harvest this unused performance.

Unfinished? What is unfinished?

a) A product with lots of features that does not work.
b) A product matching its description where all features work.

For most products you buy you would argue that a) is the unfinished one.

If you buy a car without automatic climate control you won't complain to your friends that the car you bought was unfinished...

I can understand if you require a car to have automatic climate co...

Battlefront, let me cite you... ;)

>>Is everyone choosing to ignore the "In-Engine Footage" statement at the beginning of the trailer??

None of it is gameplay footage, PC or PS4, It's not going to look like this. <<

@TheCommentator XBoxOne does not exceed minimum system requirements for Oculus Rift...

Pretty sure they are working on something...

At the same time it is very easy to see that Sony prepared for this from the beginning - LED bar on DS4.

And most importantly - they will work the same.

Make it work on your development PS4 and it should work on the complete installed base...

Make a PC game work on your specific setup - will it work anywhere else? CPUs have different strength, GPUs too and disks...
=> different areas will work best/worst depending on setup.

"keep supporting a company's games blindly regardless of quality"

You cant blame Battlefront for being having low quality, most(all?) other games released 2015 had a lot more quality issues.

Low on content? More than enough for me at least (and more is comming). I have most fun when playing one map over and over, learning it bit by bit...
