I'll come right out and admit that I haven't played a GOD OF WAR game before, but I think I'll be starting on the franchise with this instalment!
An episode of UK game show PLAYR had a top 10 of 2009 a few weeks back. One of their 'predictions' was that (quoting as best as my memory will allow!): "God of War III will be truly startling and make a lot of 360 owners jealous"
...THEIR words, not mine, and this from a rather snooty programme that has been known to put the boot into Sony on a few occasions.
Well, looks like that prediction was right, anyway.
Nyah, I'll wait for the Wii version.... ;)
You can take as long as you want on a 'level' (the word 'level' seems innapropriate though). You can take to the skies and just meander, picking up petals slowly and in random order, or blaze through in the proper sequence.
Played the first level, brought life back to the tree, went "aaaaahhhhhh" in satisfaction.
The opening scene, with the drabness of the grey concrete cityscape broken only by the single yellow flower, is strangely moving.
Zooming into the flower (is it 'dreaming' in some way?) we're transported to a gloriously relaxing yet amazingly addictive experience as we take flight on a breeze to return life to the yellowing field.
Very simple yet very profound at ...
Wow! As an FPS fan I actually picked up the box and was looking at it my local game shop this very day - Good job my spidey sense made me put it back.
But it isn't a point of 'shame' any more is it? These days, I'd be less inclined to admit to liking STAR TREK than being 'gay'.
Why do you care??
I loved VIRTUA COP on Saturn. Wasn't so keen on HOD (was that Dreamcast? Can't honestly remember!) - Does this new one 'innovate' the lightgun game genre more than KZ2 'innovates' the FPS though?
I hate drifting off topic, but would like to say that I don't know how people can be 'proud' of any state that is considered 'normal'. 'Pride' comes from one's achievements or triumphing in the face of adversity surely? Can I say I'm 'proud' to be heterosexual? No, because I had nothing to do with this and it's just the way things are. I didn't work for it - I didn't earn it, so it can't be a source of pride.
Same with being gay; For gay people that's their normal state so...
Can't say for sure, but I'd tend to say 'no'.
For an indepth look at the timeline, characters and backstory of the PS2 and PSP games, there's a superb thread over on the NEOGAF forums. It gives VERY detailed accounts of the Earth expansion, creation of the ISA and how the Helghast were displaced from Vekta.
None of it is essential for enjoying the game, but it's fascinating never the less.
I don't play many PS2 games these days, but amongst the few that I do is most definately the first KILLZONE.
That automatic pistol looks sweet, and waaaay better than the revolver (just about the only thing I didn't like in the demo) - Think I'll be packing that as standard when I get hold of it.
BLACK was brilliant (apart from the poe-faced cutscenes!) and well deserving of a sequal - It was so open ended. The shootout in the junkyard outside the asylum is still utterly cool and intense, even when I know what to expect.
The game was too short of course, but what there was gave me months of pleasure through replays, especially after unlocking the silver weapons (unlimited ammo baby!!!). Another gem I frequently revisit on my PS3.
Better than KZ? Hmmmm....
EDIT: Whoops! Reply in wrong place...
I really do wish that in the wake of the inevitable success of KILLZONE 2, some sort of KILLZONE "Enhanced Special Edition" would be released. While I certainly wouldn't expect it to match the sequal in terms of visuals, Guerilla could polish it to a more 'next gen' level and clean out the 'glitches'.
Probably not financially viable, but it would still be cool.
I can understand why the second two may be considered issues (though not by me), but I thought the levels were very diverse.
Trench warfare, urban combat, rainswept beaches & docks, jungle combat, icy wastelands and ultimately a space station... All felt very different to me.
So I'm a fanboy for loving KILLZONE (1), even though when I was playing it my primary console was actually the XBOX?
Foolish, foolish flaming from an immature little man.
10/10 doesn't mean "perfect", it just means a game excels in it's field and is exceptionally good (that's how I see it, anyway). The score gives us an idea about the game while the write-up puts that score in perspective.
The KZ2 review changed nothing for me as I've hated EDGE pretty much from issue #1.
A mate at work used to pass his copy around and even back then I found them a bunch of pretentious tits who believed their own "serious game magazine" label far too much.
