It's a good thing the PS3 is selling so much better than the PS2, right? I mean the 360 is just getting blown out of the water by the PS2, but the PS3 is just...hey...wait...the PS3 is getting killed by the PS2, too!

Seems like around here that's about all anyone needs to start a flamewar. Honestly, does it matter why? The game isn't coming until April, so we have plenty of time for more of these discussions.

I'd better renew my fire insurance.

So what stories are those of us with all 3 systems supposed to read if we're to stay out of each other's stories? I think the proper reaction is to just not post if you don't have anything constructive to say.

GTA III moved a ton of PS2 hardware around the world. Vice City and San Andreas didn't hurt much, either.

It was definitely the software that sold the system, not the other way around. It takes more than consumer loyalty.

Why is this once again PS3 vs. 360?

Dude, there is not going to be a 40 gig PS3 for $399. Sony said at E3 that they do not want to offer multiple sku's because the public does not respond well to them. So there will be no 40 gig coffin nailer.

And Sony is not going to try to aggressively undercut the 360 on price. If they wanted to do that they already would have. They are going to have to go toe-to-toe on first-party and third party exclusive software.

Max Payne was only good for a single play-through. Absolutely no replay value, IMO. Heck, I'm still playing GTA III.

Most of Rockstar's stuff is merely average. At least that's what I think.

Most 360 owners will tell you that Live is worth $50 for 13 months. I would agree. It is a well-developed, well integrated system.

I justified mine in 4 ways. First, there are a few good games out there right now. There's no abundance of games, but there's stuff to do. Second, I have a decent PS2 library that looks so much better on my HDTV when played through my PS3. Third, Blu-ray movies are awesome. And to go along with it DVD upscaling makes the PS3 an excellent all-around movie machine. Fourth, I paid $500 for my 360 with the wireless network adapter, so comparing apples to apples I can't really complain about the p...

Which is exactly why it beats the snot out of the PS3 and 360. By that same token, there are only three or four games on PS3 that are worth owning. Currently software support is not an area where PS3 beats Wii. But I better be careful before someone posts another "look what's coming" list.

Nintendo gives people what they want. Unlike Sony and Microsoft who try to tell people what they need.

One thing to keep in mind concerning the price of the PS3 is that nobody actually knows whether Blu-ray was fully responsible for the price of the PS3. It could have been the Cell that drove up the price. It could have been anything, really. Unless Sony releases a price list for the parts in the box people can only really speculate.

Actually, this time next year both formats could be dead. Neither format is selling all that well compared to DVD. People like to act like one or the other is blazing some kind of trail, but neither is doing all that well in the marketplace. Blu-ray may have sheer numbers of discs sold as an advantage, but when you compare the ratio of discs sold to players sold, it stops looking so good.

These arguments will make sense in a couple of years. Right now they're just time consumin...

Just goes to show that not everything is 360 versus PS3. Gamers know a good game when they see one, regardless of whether it is on their system of choice.

Only a moron hates on a game just because he can't play it.

Truth be told, I think that the Ninja Gaiden Sigma demo blows the Heavenly Sword demo out of the water. Given it is just a rehash of the Xbox game, but the Sigma demo appealed to me more.

More than one disc on certain games is ok.

Well, Clap Your Hands, everything's pretty rosy until you compare HD-DVD and Blu-ray to standard DVD. People can throw out all of the percentages they want to, but neither Blu-ray nor HD-DVD has any sort of mass-market appeal.

The truth is that neither format is exactly setting the world on fire, much less destroying the other at anything. As of April only 1 million Blu-ray discs had been sold, which was less than the number of players installed when you account for PS3 sales. ...

You make some really great points, and you've apparently put a lot of thought into it. This is a great time to be a gamer. Forget the single system fanboys. They're completely irrelevant. When people begin to look at the merits of each platform and make purchasing decisions based on the positives of each then we all win.

But I doubt that all of those titles you listed, combined, are going to move more systems than Halo 3.

6888d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

I think a few of your assumptions are invalid. Many gamers aren't going to convert from Xbox to PS3. Some will, but many gamers already have both systems and will continue to support both. It isn't a one or the other game for many of us.

Maybe it is a little premature to look beyond Spring 2008 to decide who is going to be in the lead. The way I see it, the Xbox has a lock on 2007. There's no way Sony's installed base is going to pass Microsoft's this year, and in my opinion Xb...

A Microsoft price cut is less of a "me-too" strategy than it is a necessary price cut for hardware that's nearly two years old. Although I doubt you see sales increases for 360 like you did for PS3 until Halo 3 is released, and a lot of them will come from that really ugly Halo-edition box.

People can disparage Halo 3 all they want to, but that game is going to move systems. It will move more systems for Microsoft than any single title released this year will move sys...
