Actually $5 billion is a big deal to companies like Sony, especially in terms of cash flow. Not many companies have a bankroll the size of Microsoft, Sony included. I'm sure they expected to take the losses in anticipation of achieving profitability later, so I'm not worried. But you can't maintain losses like that indefinitely. That's why the 40gb model was born.

They're also looking to sell an additional 290 million shares of the company to raise some money, so there's opportunity for someone to buy a decent stake in the company.

I guess the Gamespot review left a lot of anti-Gamespot people looking foolish. I can't even count the number of times I saw someone say that Gamespot would give it a bad score just because they hate the PS3. Funny I don't see many of them coming out now saying how wrong they were.

Some of those consoles are on eBay right now. There was 1 MGS4 bundle in WalMart on Friday morning. I was going to buy it to resell on eBay, but they don't seem to be selling there that well.

Spoken by someone who truly knows nothing about the topic. You can't compare upscaling of the contents of the frame buffer of a video game console to resizing an image in Photoshop. They are two completely different kinds of technology.
And even if you were able to make a direct comparison, there are graphics formats that are way less lossy than the average JPEG image. JPEG's are already compressed as far as they can be, with relatively low DPI. But formats like PNG and RAW upsc...

I guess it's good that you don't have to change discs. But if the game is segregated into acts, and it takes up to 3 minutes to install between acts, would it be that big of a deal to change discs?
Everybody always hypes these updates so much. I hope that people get what they want out of it. I think that the PS3 is fine like it is, so I don't see much to be excited about.
