I think that's the real reason for not enabling PS2 BC on the PS3. PS2 is too much of a moneymaker to make it obsolete by allowing the PS3 to play PS2 games.
I'm sure taking it out initially was a cost cutting measure. But I believe that keeping it out was a move to keep demand for the PS2 from softening. Face it, if the PS3 plays PS2 games then what reason would someone have to buy a PS2 if a $300 PS3 lets you play everything?
There are a couple of ways to look at this. With Sony still fully supporting the PS2 it means that a consumer will have to own a PS2 to take full advantage of Sony's full catalog. That's a negative for consumers because you have to buy two different consoles to play your games. That means an outlay of $400 to play the fully supported catalog.
On the other side, it's a positive for Sony because they are making sales on the PS2 front when people want to play these games. So removin...
I hope that 2010 is a better year for the 360. I don't think I bought a single 360 exclusive released this year. I did purchase a few multiplats on the 360 like Street Fighter IV (which I should have purchased on PS3) and Ghostbusters. But the majority of my console purchases were PS3 exclusives this year.
Personally I'm looking forward to Crackdown 2 and Mass Effect 2 on the 360 next year. Those are two of my all-time favorite 360 games. Not sure yet about the PS3. Probably Age...
I can't argue with any of that. The mass proliferation of HD televisions has really made people want hardware that can make the most of their HD investment. The PS3 is really well positioned to have mass market appeal since it really does pretty much do everything an HD nut would want. When it finally hits $199 I think it will get the last of the fence-sitters.
I was irritated 3 years ago at the prospect of Sony forcing Blu-ray out at what I perceived as a monumental price point....
It is possible to overuse anti-aliasing. Depending on the resolution images can look really blurry if there's too much in use.
I think it really annoys a lot of people that the Xbox 360 has done as well as it has. When the PS3 crosses the line to second place it won't mean that the 360 was a failure. Especially since so many people have derived a lot of enjoyment from the system and its games.
The only people that put stock in a "console war" are the flaming fanboys that clutter every article around here. We all have a common hobby and I wish that we could all enjoy it without trying to tear ea...
My thought on wrestling games is that once you've played them all. It's pretty much the same mechanics over and over.
It's good to see some real software engineering going into this stuff. This is a good, concrete example of how the power of the Cell processor can aid in the graphical presentation of games.
This sparks a question in my mind. If the developer can implement a solution in software that doesn't seem to impact the performance of the PS3 version then why doesn't the 360 version have anti-aliasing when there's hardware support for 4XAA?
I must admit that 2009 has been the year that PS3 software has really shined. The majority of my purchases this year have been for PS3 as that is truly where the best exclusives were. Here's to hoping that 2010 will be more of the same.
And although it would be in my top 5, LittleBigPlanet would not have been my choice for #1. For me, so far, it is Uncharted 2.
GTA IV was not the best GTA I've ever played, but it was ok. I just didn't find it compelling enough to pay for the DLC. I might pick up the DLC disc that's out when the price drops to $20 or so, but probably not until then.
The rechargeable battery packs I bought for my 360 controllers are still going strong. I've had them since May 2006. My PS3 controller is still going strong, too. I only have to charge it every few weeks. The battery lasts me forever.
I just read the article twice and I couldn't find where it said that consumers should not buy a PS3. I think that Brave New Gamer is doing a bit of reading between the lines with this one.
It will be annoying when my PS3 controller's battery dies, but if I can replace it myself then I will. It has been my experience that taking controllers apart and putting them back together is an exercise in patience if you've never done it, so a lot of people will probably get them apart and ...
Personally, I don't give a crap whether a character is gay or not. I don't see what place gender identity has in a video game. I don't care whether people are straight or gay in real life, so I really don't care what they are in the place I go to forget real life for a while.
I've seen graphically impressive titles on all three platforms, all things considered. Mass Effect looked great, and the Uncharted series goes without saying. In this generation the PS3 has shown us some of the most graphically impressive console games ever, but those visuals come at a price that most third party publishers just aren't going to pay. That's not to say that third party publishers don't make good looking games, but the best on every platform has been exclusive.
The price cut of the Elite was marketed as a price cut, but was it really? The redesigned the SKU and took out HD cables.
What's interesting is that nobody seems to acknowledge that Microsoft and Sony are fighting over second place.
I'll pick up Mirror's Edge for $14.99.
His opinion is probably as valid as any of ours.
Does that mean that PS3 slim's launch success is the reason they're in third place in NPD console sales this month? I'm not understanding your comment.
