Grain of salt time. There are a couple of points here that the author is a bit short-sighted on.

The first is dependability of hardware. Maybe the author isn't old enough to remember, but Sony wasn't exactly known for releasing dependable hardware with the PS1 or the PS2. Both consoles launched with cheap optical drives. The early models of the PS1 used CD drives with plastic rails that would warp, making it impossible for the console to play FMV without skipping. I had to turn m...

I don't see why that's asking for disagrees. It's his opinion. Not everyone was a fan of the PS2, especially those of us that had such horrible problems with the launch hardware.

I picked up my Dreamcast and about 20 games as part of the fire sale in 2002. Got the system for $59 and the games for $5 each. And it was such a fantastic deal for that price!

I still have it on the shelf in the other room and I pull it out every now and then. It was really a fun system and the games felt just like the Sega arcade experience. That's what I loved the most about it.

When I got my Xbox I spent more time with it than with my PS2, especially once GTA was available for it and was a much better experience on Xbox. And I was so stoked for Jedi Outcast! KOTOR was one of my favorites there, too.

Too bad the Xbox had such a short lifespan, relatively speaking. I was sad to see it go.

Nothing here that looks interesting to me. I wish MAG was my kind of game, but sadly it isn't.

I am. The first one was a great story. I'm looking forward to this one.

I'm ready for Mass Effect 2. Finished my replay of the first one so I'm all caught up again. Bayonetta is ok, but I'm not a hack 'n slash fan. That's one I'll pick up when it goes to budget. Nothing else looks appealing to me.

In terms of staying power I would say the PS2 deserves the title. Tons were sold, it moved tons of software and it had widespread appeal. So I have to agree there.

In terms of innovation? I hate to say it, but I don't really think there was tons of innovation in gaming over the last decade. People might think the Wii was innovative because of motion control, but I don't think it was. I think it reminded us all what was fun about pretty much every console before online gaming too...

The quotes from Sony in the article weren't confidence. They were naivete and time has proven that they were wrong on those particular aspects.

Another area where Sony was wrong was backward compatibility. It was touted in the headline of their May 2005 press release:

http://www.us.playstation.c...

"In 1994, SCEI launched the original PlayStation® (PS), followed by...

Being that the site is called gamerant.com I expected a rant when I clicked the link. A rant is what I got. The thing I'll agree with the author on is how Sony corporate tends to play down the things that they don't do particularly well and try to make it sound like it's because that's how gamers want it.

Instead of fessing up that they couldn't include rumble in the Sixaxis due to a lawsuit they tried to make it sound like a last-gen feature and a design choice. But as soon as ...

Like they did when they included Blanka from Brazil or Dhalsim from India? Because that's totally what I expect Brazilians and Indians to look and behave like. And the stages? I'm sure every palace in India has elephants in it.

I think that people are taking this a bit too seriously.

I'd buy it.

10 bucks? Nope. $1.99 is an impulse buy for me from the App Store. I think twice about $4.99. $9.99 for the limited interface? Forget it.

I recall that when Sony announced full BC for the PS3 lots of people cared about it. And they poked at Microsoft for only providing limited BC for Xbox games while PS3 was so awesome and would support all of their games. But as soon as Sony decided to cut it from the PS3 to bolster PS2 sales people suddenly jumped on the bandwagon and stopped caring about it. Yeah, they say it was to cut the PS3 cost, but at the time PS2 was the only system making money for Sony and each PS3 they sold at a lo...

No matter what Sony said, the reality is that many people are going to be judging the final product by what they saw in the GT Academy demo. I don't think the result will be disastrous, but unless a proper demo of the game is released prior to launch it could dissuade some folks from making a purchase, even if temporarily.

I've played the GT Academy demo and it was ok. But if I were using it to make my final call on whether GT5 was going to deliver I wouldn't be able to justify t...

I have to disagree with one point the author makes. HDTV's are extremely common. It's getting harder and harder to find an SD television for purchase. If he thinks that a 720p set is too expensive then I feel bad for him, because when his TV breaks he's going to be in trouble. This isn't a cheap hobby.

How did he afford the PS3? You can get a 32" 720p LCD for $250 or less. That's less than any new PS3 available.

Seems like so many people want this to still be a problem. Seems rather silly to me. Microsoft screwed up, owned up and put up. Now everyone needs to shut up. That's how I feel about it. It happened. Let's move on.

I don't have a crystal ball, but I know I've been massively enjoying my PS3 this year. I urge everyone to put the fanboy crap aside and have some fun.

As a day 1 owner of Heavenly Sword I can say that the game has awesome production values, but very little depth. The game is a good game, but I'd be careful placing it on that high of a pedestal.
