Around 6 hours seems to be it for me too. I never had to replace anything though. It's worn out in places and one of the buttons sometimes gets stuck but I haven't any of that.

I don't have any problem believing the story about the features. As a software developer, I know all too well that constantly adding new features ends up taking much longer than anticipated. Less experienced devs will often take on new features on their client's demands. It's better to draw a line to know when the product is finished or it can go on forever. And forever is not an exaggeration. A lot of teams never get out of this cycle.

There could be some foreshadowing to MGS1 and 2 but the only ones that are important chronologically are MGS3, PW and GZ... and I guess MPO if you have a lot of time on your hands but I'd really just watch the cutscenes.
It's still officially canon but wasn't directed or written by Kojima so it's really just kind of a filler chapter in the saga. Not a bad one IMO but it does stand out.
I don't think it's convoluted at all. I've played all of them several times and while it's somewhat complex, it's nowhere near convoluted IMO. There are things that they're vague about but that's just the way I like it.
And I think they made GZ as a bridge between the two so TPP wouldn't need to depend on PW and so it could stand on its own. It looks to me like they wrapped up PW's story with GZ and opened the way to TPP nicely. I don't...
I don't mind about that in FFXV. The worst they could try is to make some sort of weird hybrid between turned-based and realtime like what they've been trying since FFXII. Now THAT is bad. I think we're fine if they stick to either full realtime combat or full turn-based.
And I suppose we'll have to say goodbye to the worldmap as well since it doesn't fit with the beautiful 3D models and all that. I mean Cloud and Barrett being 1/4 the size of a whole city. Now that would be bizarre.

It's a great game. I'm all for letting more people enjoy it. I just hope it won't lead to more platform wars in the game. We get the occasional PC vs PS4 arguments but nothing too retarded.
They did it with FFXI. Obviously, that was several years ago and it didn't seem as strange then as it does nowadays.
If my memory serves, you could see which platform other players were playing on when examining them which meant that there was an XBOX icon in a PS2 game and vice versa. Always thought that was kind of funny.
It's doing good at the moment but it hasn't been long enough for their bad decisions to truly take effect. Give it two or three years and I expect them to not be doing so good anymore. MGSV will boost their profits a lot when it comes out but it's probably going to be the last newsworthy title they ever release if they continue down this path.
Still too early. The PS3 really turned things around in its last years. Same could happen with X1 this gen. This generation is still in its early stages after all.

Exactly what fantasy medieval game does that? Most of the ones I've played featured women and people of all races in positions of power. Even Assassin's Creed which is based on real history did it.

It's my favorite game of the year so far but I do feel like it's been tainted by Konami. I get disgusted every time I see that MB coins icon. But despite all that it's still an amazing game.
