Of cause it can do "ray tracing" lol. That's not news!!
The cloud can theoretically do ANY form of computation. The real question can it be used to process ray tracing in "real time" in an Xbox1 game engine? Or can it in fact assist in the computation of "real time" gaming at all?!
Because so far MS has offered zero proof that cloud computing of "real time" graphics is even feasible using existing internet infrastr...
It's light years ahead of upscaling!
It still renders the final image at native 1080p, it's just calculating those pixels differently than normal.
This is a new and very interesting solution that is infinitely better than current upscaling techniques. And only possible now because the PS4 has access to a huge chunk of fast RAM.
I very much doubt that this technique would be possible on the Xbox1 due to the limitations of its memory...
At least they didn't just use a lower res and do crappy upscaling like devs normally do. It's not a true 1080p image, but its a much better approximation than say 720p upscaled (which looks blurry and shite by comparison).
Here is a detailed discription of the technique they used. As you can see it's far more advanced than a simple upscaling algorithm.
"True, but this isn't 960 x1080 scaled to 1920 x 1080 either, like how the Xbox would d...
Cloud computing is feasible. It does offer many advantages. Perhaps towards the end of this current gen we'll see cloud computing equate to improved game performance. For now I think it'll be limited to less apparent applications. For example online only MMO's and server end improvements.
The problem with off loading graphics and/or game engine processing to the cloud is two fold.
1. It requires an "always on" internet connection. As gam...
As a direct port is out of the question, I'd say it'll be (if it even happens at all) a remake using the new iteration of ND engine planned for the upcoming "Uncharted 4".
I'd buy this in a heart beat as I am always going back and playing through the old Uncharted games over and over. Just completed UC3 on the hardest difficulty over the last week or so.
No matter how many times I play it, it's always a blast!
I don't think anyone actually believed that Titanfall would be 1080p on Xbox1.
It would be awesome if they manage 900p still with good levels of AA but I'm not holding my breath.
Realistically I'd say not much higher than the Beta resolution. To do so would mean sacrificing to many other assets to make it worthwhile. I played the beta briefly on a PC and even maxed out at 1600p it was still pretty meh visually.
It was fun. But...
@towelie
Says the troll who is baiting the PS4 fans with comments like
"since there are no games to play on yet ps4"
As an owner of both consoles I can honestly say that I have enjoyed the PS4 exclusives much more than the Xbox1 so far. Plus multi plats are better on the PS4. So guess which console I've spent more time playing.
To say there are no games to play on the PS4 a such sad attempt at a troll. If you...
More advanced AA technique most likely. Maybe FXAA on the Xbox1 and a form of MSAA on the PS4.
I'd say most of the assets will be identical, and the only real difference will be the final image quality/effects. We've seen this before in games like NFS where the PS4 version had extra graphical effects and higher quality absent occlusion.
If both versions look and perform identically then that would just be poor form from the dev not to push the PS4 h...
Lol.
THIS is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
"But all that doesnt matter now, xbox one games will all be 1080p/60fps now that the devs probably have had the March sdk in advance"
Hmmm 8% extra GPU performance and some better development tools will some how make up for the 2.25x resolution difference between the Xbox1 and PS4 versions of some games!?
Nice logic there bud. You're not a mate of that Mister X f...
lols @ "SONY may have a major issue on their hands"
The only "issue" SONY has at the moment, is not being able to produce enough PS4s to meet demand.
The PS4 is still cheaper, and still has far superior hardware. SONY should do nothing in response. The PS4 will still be sold out everywhere.
Hell, even if MS dropped the price to parity with the PS4, it'll still out sell the Xbox1.
MS gotta realise by no...
A price cut 3 months after launch speaks volumes about how worried MS is about the current Xbox1 sales figures.
It sold incredibly well at launch, but since sales have slowed to a trickle.
Lols.
I knew the Xbox bois would be all over this. The first (and only) game so far to have performance issues and it starts a shit storm.
Oh no the PS4 can't maintain a solid frame rate. It must be inferior! Lets just forget every other game that runs perfectly and at a much higher res than it's competitor.
Sad. But whatever. If it makes the fan bois feel better then leave them to it. I'm just gunna sit back and have a quiet gi...
If sales figures stay as they are now for the rest of the year, the Xbox1 will struggle to match the WiiU's numbers in 12 months.
It sold incredibly well at launch, but since then sales have slowed to a trickle.
It really need a couple of killer exclusives (and no, TitanFall does not count, its not an exclusive) to gain back some momentum.
I hope they include Ground Zeros as part of the Phantom Pain anyway. That way people who hold out for the full release don't miss out on the prologue.
But I gotta say I agree with zod. I'm stoked we get to play a sneaky peek ahead of the full game. The price is a little steep, but you don't HAVE to buy it.
It also give Hideo an excellent opportunity to gather some feed back from fans. He can use this info to improve/tweak the Phantom Pain if there...
Actually. Now that I think about it. There are a lot of games that were pretty 'meh' that I never got around to finishing. FarCry3, Mass Effect 3, Borderlands 2, are just recent examples.
But strangely the games that I truly love I end up completing over and over again. UC2, UC3 and TLOU I've completed several times each. Skyrim I've played through to completion with several different character builds. KZ2, KZ3, and KZSF I completed several times as well. Ther...
Oh and second screen option like the vita, but on the android app.
So I can take this http://cdn.shopify.com/s/fi... into the shitta with me and still play BF4
Obviously we need a DS4 version of the GameKlip too.
DLNA server support. Everything else is a distant second in my list.
I'm more than happy with the UI otherwise. But it sucks that the PS4 does not have all the basic features that the PS3 has.
I just use my TV remote to navigate around when not playing a game.
Works great while watching movies too as it has a pause, FF, RW, options buttons too.
Pretty sure any TV that supports control over HDMI will work like this.
I think Mike meant "Next Gen Console" games development. And I agree.
First party studios (whether it be for SONY or MS) will always be able to push the hardware further than third party devs who have to spread their resources across optimizing for several platforms.
We saw it last gen with the PS3. What ND achieved on the aging PS3 hardware with UC3 and TLOU was breath taking.
This time round I think SONY's first party devs wi...
Oh f'k off! The only people here misleading anyone is the dammed journalists. They have no idea what they are on about.
Killzone Shadowfall MP is still rendered at a native 1080p resolution. The confusion comes about when people start talking about the 1080x960 frame buffer and the technique used to render the final 1920x1080 frame.
It new tech and should not be compared to the crapy up scaling of lower res we are used to. There is no up scaling happeni...
