These screens are a poor example of the difference. The up scaling used is an order of magnitude more advanced than what the consoles are capable of on the fly.

But more to the point. Some people will notice more than others.

I find aliasing extremely distracting! It breaks the immersion. It's one of the reasons I only played exclusives on consoles towards the end of the last gen, and built a PC for multi plats.

I had high hopes that al...

Agreed. I was going to mention that in my post below. But saw you had already stated the fact that the PS4 has the best 1st party development teams. Thought I might just expand.

Just look at the last couple of yrs of the PS3 and Xbox360. The PS3 saw heaps of great games, and arguably some of it's best. Plus it still has huge support from SONY now and in the foreseeable future. The Xbox360 on the other hand saw a bit of a drought in terms of 1st party releases. It felt ...

Look at it this way.

Say the Xbox1 and the PS4 are PC GPU'S. Just hit the market. One sells for $500 and can only handle the latest games @720p. The other sells for $400 and runs the same games @1080p.

Which one you going to buy?

Now I know its not the best analogy as both consoles offer much more than games. But I think its a valid point.

I am a gamer. I buy consoles to play games. To hell with all the other crap they...

You do realize that the tiled resources technique that is available to developers on the Xbox1 is not exclusive to Xbox1 hardware right?

The PS4 and indeed open gl as a whole is capable of the same techniques. With identical results. It's a software solution. So it works on any suitable hardware. In fact any AMD 7000 series or later (GCN based) GPU.

Really. 2 PS4 games @1080p! Try harder dude.

At my last count there is only ONE sub 1080p game on PS4 (BF4 which is 900p). Apart from that EVERY single PS4 game is 1080p native.

If I've missed one please correct me. I am not beyond some humility if proven wrong.

Edit.

Oh and The Order is not 800p (as that would be 16:10 1280x800 or 1,024,000 pixels). The Order is actualy 2.4:1 1920x800 or 1,536,000 pixels. Huge differen...

Lols @ self!?! A clown am I!

In my defense many brews had been consumed, and the hour was late...or early depending on how you look at it.

Plus after 4 solid hrs of BF4 most of my higher brain functions were still prioritized on calculating DMR round drop rates lol.

Cool. Some honestly at last. He could very well have spun some PR BS.

I think once everyone accepts the Xbox1 won't have many 1080p native games and moves on. This whole resolutiongate BS will stop making headlines.

An an owner of both consoles I can honestly say that while Xbox1 games as not as pretty as PS4 versions. Xbox1 games still look sensational! A huge jump from last gen and I can't see Xbox1 owners "missing out" on anything just c...

Lols.

The eSRAM is a bandaid solution, pure and simple. And a poorly thought out one at that.

It was added because DDR3 is slow as f'k. It (the eSRAM) was never a good choice from a performance or cost point of view. And it (the eSRAM) is the reason the Xbox1's GPU is weak compared to the PS4.

This is how it went down.

Hey let's use DDR3 ram in our new console! Its cheap so we can fit more of it in. Yea ok!

OMFG joy!!!

FF7 Is by far my favorite PS game. We (my best mate and I) invested hundreds of hrs in our quest to unlock/accomplish everything.

I think our save file was at 350+ hrs (plus the unfathomable number of hrs that didn't log because of the thousands of times we died and had to reload)

All other FF games pale in comparison. The story and characters were so epic. I'd buy a remake in a heart beat. And I'd probably cry like a...

I like it because is different, it's quirky, and for some of them at lease (weird biped walky things I'm looking at you) creepy as f'k.

I just think it's nice to see a developer trying something different than the staple nasties. They could have just had skelies, giant (insert insect/rodent here), zombz/ghouls, ect. Think TES.

It might not work. But at least they are looking outside the box? Just my 2c.

Good post! And sadly I think you're right mate. We will probably never see a return of that earlier masterful level design. And it's a real shame, as IMO, the earlier Doom games had some of the best level design ever created in a video game. And on such basic tech (compared to today, at the time it was ground breaking stuff).

Oh well. Gives us reasons to revisit the classics I guess ;-)

Ok. Cool. Thanks for the heads up mate. I didn't know that about Infamous.

If it allows for that same seamless gameplay experience we saw in TLOU/UC3 then I can forgive some pre baked cut scenes.

It was awesome in Uncharted 3 to never see a loading screen unless you died. It really gave the game that "interactive movie" feel.

What's to bet MS are pushing the developer HARD for a 2014 release. I just hope it doesn't effect the final games quality.

We all saw what rushing a game does for quality with the launch titles on PS4 and Xbox1. Both BF4 and KZ would have benefitted greatly from an extra couple of months development. I'd much rather they take as much time as they need and release a polished game.

Only time will tell I suppose.

Doom is due for a Reboot.

I absolutely loved Doom3. Was a fresh take on the original story. All I want is the same again.

Same basic story, but with a shiny new engine to blow peoples my minds. I'd like a return to the original Doom/Doom2 level design. Combination of claustrophobic interiors and wide open exteriors with that devious level design that the earlier games were renowned. Environmental traps, those sneaky little walls that would open up spewi...

I can't see the Xbox1 loosing much in the way of AAA development. Indy? Yes. AAA no way. The hardware is too similar.

Maybe less effort will be put into the Xbox1 versions of games due to the extra effort required to get the best out of the Xbox1 hardware (ESRAM to thank for that) and the fact that historically developer's polish their lead platform version the most. That could very well become a reality. Because sadly the Xbox1 is a pain to develop for compared to t...

Give it a couple of months and we'll see the gap between the PS4 and Xbox1 widen.

The PS4 sales numbers are still largely limited by availability of stock. Once the JP launch has passed and SONY can focus on market saturation you'll see the PS4 selling in much greater numbers in NA.

I can see the PS4 leading at least 2:1 in NA weekly sales and at last 3:1/4:1 globally.

SONY must be kicking themselves that they don't have the abi...

What's so impressive about The Order and Infamous is that all the cut scenes are using "in game" assets and engine. Nothing is pre baked or has any additional post processing added.

Not sure if the same can be said of Ryse. Though I am honestly not sure. So please correct me if I'm wrong.
