If the console GPU designs are based on the upcoming/current GPU generation then Sony would be better off sticking with Nvidia.

When PS3 was built, Ati had a clear edge in the GPU architecture stakes. The X1k series Radeons were faster and more advanced than the Geforce 7 RSX is based around. It came as no surprise Ati delivered a quality custom chip for 360, while PS3 got stuck with a crippled Geforce 7. The architecture was a loser before it was ever offered to Sony.

More doesn't always equal better, faster doesn't always equal better. It is never as simple as that.

I never changed the topic, i always take a nice look at the big picture and not being narrow minded such as yourself. I always firmly believe that a console is not to be defined within only a handful of games, but how it copes across many titles.

It is your opinion that God of war 3 is unmatched. However it is my opinion that there is also impressive s...

I didn't think you read what i said very well Oner TBH.

I only said that the video memory runs at 650mhz. Also i didn't say the XDR was pointless, i said that using it as video memory via RSX access mostly was pointless because of the latency penalty incurred.

I wouldn't quite say that a few exclusives that are arguably unmatched, in your personal opinion does that justify the difficulty so many more developers have had with the split memory archi...

@ Oner, PS3's Video Memory runs at 650mhz. Models may have modules rated to 700mhz which was the original spec but they all run 650mhz when the speed was downrated before finalisation.

While true the GPU has access to the system memory (XDR), it is mostly pointless to use it because the bus bandwidth that enables that access is slower i.e latency, there is a performance penalty involved which is why developers don't bother with it. The system memory is naff to the GP...

PC really does the game justice. Curse microsoft for delaying its release so long. Had people actually seen this sort of thing 2 years ago they might have even gone to buy the 360 version more too

Shame they didn't fix them before launch but this is just what you have to expect when you use multi GPU setups, i had used them for years and years but recently ditched them for one card.

You can get 1080p/4 x AA and 50-60 frames with a GTX570. The game feels smooth even at lower framerates because it has fairly effective motion blur.

@ roguewarrior

What we really need is triple buffering on 30 frame games with vsync- all the time. Uncharted 2 had it. Triple buffering basically would eliminate screen tear and also if a frame goes over budget helps minimise the noticeable speed drop you would see. Like for example from the recent ME3 demo, which is only double buffered and vsynced so when the console misses its 30FPS target it automatically crashed down to 20FPS to match the next display sync.

FatOldMan correctly interpreted my intention of the word usage. You should not assume the negative aspects so easily DragonKnight, but then i know your comment history so i guess i am not surprised...

Persistantthug- you didn't actually say anything relevant to counter my statement. No matter what specs the machine is, devs will more often plump for 30 frames. It isn't relevant what specs they are, because whether you have the power of wii or an ubermachine the link i...

Wipeout is pseudo full 1080p. I mean yes, natively it does render at 1920 x 1080 a lot of the time, but not all of the time. It has a dynamic framebuffer which means it will render from 1280 x 1080 up to 1920 x 1080 and a few steps inbetween depending on how much load the engine is under. More load = less resolution for the next few frames. The effect is excellent though, it is not easy to tell the game isn't 1920 x 1080 all the time such is how the human eye works (focusing on one spot, ...

Console games will probably never do 60 frames a second as a standard, more as the exception just as they are now than the standard.

This is because in order to get 60 frames, the designers have to compromise the visuals, AA or the resolution compared to the common 30 frame standard. Only when you have a powerful PC as a user can you go the whole hog and have everything, res, filters, framerate the works.

This is mostly a developer trend, they want their game...

360 controller support would probably take a decent programmer a couple hours to implement, if that.

However the other games never supported it so i didn't expect ME3 to either TBH.

Some people might prefer the pad but generally i found the mouse and keyboard on ME2 to be superior, being able to turn on a dime and easy hotkeys for powers was where it is at.

So i sympathise if you really like a pad, but try without. You might like it when...

Good news. The demo just seemed to use the console assets and this is poor for a 2012 PC, the demo looked like a 2006 PC game TBH. I did wonder because there were limited graphics options in the demo however you have to question the decision to not include the top end visuals in the demo....

PC versions gets better res and framerate, optional anti aliasing which is nice. But essentially the core assets are identical and in DX9 only- so the game is not particularly good looking for a modern PC game.

Straightforward ports are disappointing this day and age IMO

Seemed fine to me- it is probably designed for higher PC resolutions however. If you are on a lower resolution the wheel is no doubt much smaller and less distinct on the screen

If WiiU has something akin to a Radeon 4870, a high end RV770 as purported, then that = around 4-5 times faster than 360 in raw performance. As stated on Epic's slide 360's GPU performance is 0.25Tflops, 4870 is officially 1.2Tflops.

However the other rumours state it is 'only' about twice as fast as 360, which suggests something closer to a 4670 level GPU. 4670 is officially 0.48Tflops.

So by Epic's own calculations of an optimised versio...

Arguable. It depends on what your definition of 'looking better' is. You see PC games are typically designed to be scalable whereas console games are designed to run for a set resolution.

Battlefield 2 or F.E.A.R for example looked at least as good as anything i played that came later on 360's INITIAL wave of launch games, but it was also possible to run these 2560 x 1600 and 60 FPS on a top end PC, a resolution and speed faaaar beyond anything the current console...

FXAA is a great, low cost AA method. Work fantastic if you have a low end machine.

BUT.....but....MSAA is still better and still cleaner and does not blur the image at all. FXAA still does, even if it is subtle and tiny it does. MSAA costs a lot more in performance however.

In Skyrim despite the fact FXAA cleans up the foliage well and i can afford MSAA + FXAA i prefer the sharp crisp look of MSAA alone.

I guess the best thing out of all this...

It looks ok. Its the fully dynamic lighting engine that eats resources much like Crysis. The game struggled to stay vsynced and run 30FPS @ 960 x 540 on Xbox 360.

This was going to make the game fairly demanding for PC, because 1920 x 1080 is FOUR times the resolution 360 is struggling to render it at before you even think about improving effect quality on top.

We don't know the exact performance to say what these cards are really worth, only rumoured performance.

Well the midrange stuff with the 256bit memory bus is supposed to be at least on par with, if not better than 7970. http://semiaccurate.com/201... i.e the GTX660 written there- 3.4bn transistors. This correlates to that leak which says the ...
