This is ok but don't get mind blown about it. You should expect this. Its already easily possible now on a PC- we have seen games with silly poly counts on objects already but you may not have heard of it.

Crysis 2 on PC in DX11 with tesselation, for example. Crytek probably wasted a lot of their time for tesselation objects- but the street barriers in Crysis 2? They have been tesselated to contain 1 million polygons plus in real time. In one object. The performance hit...

I'll take 1080p. The game was a little low res and a little shaky performance wise on 360. It'll be a revelation in high res and rock solid framerate on PC. The platform the damn thing should have been on from launch. Still that isn't Remedy's fault.

Virtally the same as the other ME games. ME2 ran easily on the weakest hardware, because it is built for console and DX9 only. You could run ME2 on a Core 2 duo and an ancient X1950XTX @ 1280 x 1024 fairly comfortably, just below max settings. ME3 isn't likely to be much different.

A single 8800GT and a dual core got you fluid 1080p. A GTX275/4890 buys you a solid 60 frames a second.

Anything more modern and better than this like a 5850/GTX460 gives y...

I bought a DS and a PSP on launch. They were both mistakes- the handhelds didn't really come good for a year or so after they launched and then they were much more mature in terms of games and features.

I am sitting Vita out for sure until it gets at least one price drop. Unless something killer comes along i won't pay more than 180 pounds for it no matter how good the tech looks.

Unless you desperately want it then paying such an amount for the h...

Why would sony keep using CELL architecture? I seriously doubt they will. You yourself noted how extreme the costs were. Was it so great blowing all that money on the CPU in PS3 that it made PS3 immensely more powerful than 360?

We know that it didn't even though it was launched a whole year later. Be a realist.

Sony would be better off with an off the shelf CPU coupled with customised tweaks for their new hardware. It would be far cheaper than trying...

They are poor excuses to be honest, even games with semi implemented DX11 benefit because the API is built to actually improve efficiency on the CPU side as well. DX11 means that your game engine is less likely to be CPU bound. A typical problem of a DX9 only code path is that the game scales poorly across different CPU performance.

This is partly why i imagine they have chosen to highlight how they are working on multicore enhancements for their game- but it isn't the ...

This rumour speculates an absolutely massive die size- 550mm squared. This is just enormous and on a 28nm fab it means a top end part. A Radeon 7970 on 28nm has 4.5 billion transistors, and is 352mm squared (according to AMD). I actually don't think it will be anything like the size the author guesses. If it is an APU then it does leave the door open for Sony to build something considerably faster on separate dies and have it ready by the end of 2013.

Please for the lov...

Building yourself is best, but you can even get much better specced pre built HTPCs here in the uk for the cost of one of these highly overpriced boxes.

For example i have seen a fairly small HTPC you can customise in a case 35 x 28 x 22 centimetres (roughly the volume of a large size shoebox) to an i5 2500, 1TB HDD and a Radeon 6870 for the exact same price as the base model X51!! 5263d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Gotta love me PC. This is an Elder Scrolls, i couldn't play it on a console. Saying that Bethesda have consistantly underdelivered on PS3- Fallout 3 was horrible on PS3 it was clear they didn't take enough care with it.

This is likely to be the last epic size Bethesda game this generation though, so it has taken forever to fix it on PS3, hopefully they can do better on the next generation.

Most of this is just down to the fact they lead on 360. Mi...

Ahh yes. Half Life 2 to continue with episodic games so as to improve the speed of launching these titles and avoid the massive wait that amounted to 6 years between Half Life and the full blown sequel Half Life 2. Only 3 years from Half Life 2 and Episode 1 and then 2 in October 2007. This episodic release business seems to be working :-)

Great! Probably only another 2 years maybe for episode 3.

Wait what? Its 2012 and STILL no news of Episode 3 or any f...

There is no photo mode for this game. With GT5 and Forza 4 their photo modes add a whole bunch of post processing and use higher polys than actual in gameplay, so the photo mode looks a lot better than the game typically does.

This does not. What you see here is what the game actually looks like as you play it. No sneaky added effects to jazz up the visuals. They are captures where the camera has been moved in realtime by users because that is the only way to take these scr...

I have this, although it is pre alpha and won't be complete for probably a year at least. This does mean most tracks are not really complete, only two or three are at a well developed level, most others are very basic shells awaiting fleshing out.

Still on those few circuits- trust me when is it blows every racing game on console away visually even at this stage. Project Gotham has nothing on this.

This is a whole other level and the current consoles ...

This isn't news. This is using N4G as a self promotion website to sell their product. I thought this was against the rules. I will look at who approved this.

It is merely a pre built computer, the same as any other you can buy from anybody else.

They have had long enough to build a massive city and detailed as well. This will be the longest development time any GTA has ever had, longer than even San Andreas to GTA4 and the transition to a new generation.

I am expecting great things.

Lets face it and not hide behind it for fear of community reprisals.

Its looking very weak. Especially when you have to list games without confirmed titles or rumoured games!!

I have a gaming PC. Therefore Witcher 2 and Minecraft are no use to me. I think its fairly clear the machine is winding down its life, it is over 6 years old now and if Microsoft aren't developing a bunch of games for their next machine then goodness knows what exactly they are ...

This is also the greatest gaming experience i have ever had, the most impactful. Nothing before or since has changed the way i imagine a videogame could be as much as Metal Gear Solid played on a Playstation with a Dual shock.

The game was quite short but i didn't care, i could play and watch it over and over and i did, completing it dozens of times over the years. The start hit you like a movie. As soon as you saw the credits rolling over the top of the opening as you ...

The point isn't what games are made by Microsoft its what platform they happen to be exclusive on. PC is a platform. 360 is a platform. Any game on both is multi format regardless of whoever makes it. Why is it so important who makes it? All it means is that if its a Microsoft PC game they get less money for it because it does not have the same retail price as a Microsoft published console title.

If the multi format game you buy on PC happens to NOT be made by Microsoft...

Nah. Whatever machine comes first, i will buy to be an early adopter. Then the rival machine i will buy when it justifies its presence with different types of games. I enjoy being an early adopter it lets me see the landscape and potential of a new generation. I admit it is more costly, but it is exciting to have this shiny brand new hardware few others have- its a thrill lets face it as a gamer!

Getting the game you waited years for is a thrill for most people, but absolut...

Least amount of time time spent on my 360 since launch year. Forza 4 was the only 360 title i spent more than a few hours on the entire past 12 months- it was indeed the year of the multi plat and i spent all my time on the PC versions of those, it was kickass. I hardly bought anything for 360 thanks to my PC and PS3. At some points i have considered getting shot of it while it still has some value in time for the inevitable next generation machines.

PS3 did better in the n...

I pegged it at about 20 percent faster than GTX580, and it looks like i was pretty much on the money. Its around 20-25 percent faster for 1920 x 1200. It wins by a little more @ 2560 x 1600, most likely partway because of the memory involved so against the GTX580 3GB version its probably the same gap.

Lost planet 2 is an interesting result, 7970 appears to maintain its 20 percent lead over GTX580. This would mean the new architecture has pretty good tesselation performance ...
